View Full Version : JAP WRAP
pbadad 03-11-2017, 06:18 AM Went to RISSA yesterday and did the norm checking out all that was there. I notice many rod butts using the Japanese wrap shrink wrap. I always like the feel and it's grip. Tried to find a supplier and no avail. I used Xwrap, electrical shrink wrap, rod wrap etc. Anyone have a clue where to purchase Japan wrap? I once was told it's only available overseas.

Bill I don't know if this is what your looking for, but this wrap is applied directly to blank.

Guppy 03-11-2017, 03:46 PM Kind of along this line,,,,
I've often thought about using a golf grip for rod butts..
I see it today at Risaa.... When I golfed I regripped with oversized once,,, didn't help, I still sucked at it. :-)
pbadad 03-11-2017, 07:38 PM Ed that seems to be it. Now where to buy in U.S..
Fergal 03-11-2017, 09:45 PM i made a pretty good search, couldn't find any in the US. i ordered a few types and picked one that I liked. hopefuilly it works out well.
pbadad 03-12-2017, 08:39 AM Drew , I would be interested when you get it. Hopefully its the right one. I like the feel of it. I think a grip w/o sanding the smooth wrap currently used is a plus.
Fergal 03-12-2017, 09:20 AM i will try to bring a piece to the next meeting. i ordered a couple of different types of shrink tubing on amazon. of the 3 or 4 that i got i ended up using one of them on 2 rods i built this winter. it's brand new to me, haven't fished the rods yet. i may end up hating it. i'm debating using it on the next rod, not sure yet.
pbadad 03-12-2017, 04:33 PM I would like to use it with under lament whether straight or spiral wrapped and with Mason string. I would like to see the wrap.
Fergal 03-12-2017, 05:45 PM here are a few shots. cork tape under it.
Fergal 03-12-2017, 05:46 PM few more
pbadad 03-13-2017, 06:07 AM Hard to tell in picture. Is that shrink wrap dull and textured?
Fergal 03-13-2017, 06:24 AM yeah, pics kind of suck, best i could get. the wrap has no texture on its own - smooth but not slick.
pbadad 04-04-2017, 06:53 PM Found the japanese wrap on e bay. Just got it. Nice!!!!
ed morini 04-05-2017, 08:10 AM Can you let me know the dealer
Thanks
Ed
pbadad 04-06-2017, 05:55 AM Ed the source name is fishincomfort, ebay. Type in smooth (non x pattern) heat shrink wrap. Comes in for sizes.

ed morini 05-24-2017, 10:29 AM Bill,
Have you used the wrap from fishing comfort yet? thoughts?
Thanks
Ed
pbadad 05-25-2017, 06:09 AM Ed personally no. The rod was built for a friend and loves the feel and grip. Slightly more grip than the X wrap. Much better grip than the standard commercial shrink wrap.
ed morini 05-26-2017, 08:00 AM Thanks Bill,
I am waiting for delivery of stock. I have a few rods to try it on. Did you underwrap the shrink tube with the chord as you mentioned earlier?
Ed
pbadad 05-26-2017, 02:22 PM I did cord and lt. weight cork tape. Spiral wrapped.
