View Full Version : MSNBC and Trump's taxes

So Rachael Maddow had this big buildup to last night's show, she teased that she was going to reveal Trump's 2005 taxes. Lots of hype leading up to the big revelation.

What did she reveal? That Trump paid $36.5M in taxes that year, on income of 153M.

So what was the big "gotcha" moment that MSNBC thought they had? How does this do anything, other than make Trump look like a responsible taxpayer? Not sure what MSNBC was thinking, other than driving up ratings for just that one night.

I don't know if Maddow claimed that those numbers indicate some kind of presidential scandal? I also assume she didn't say on-air that Trump paid his taxes like a responsible citizen.

At one point, Maddow claimed that her revelation of Trump's taxes was "potentially historic". In what way?

Reminds me of Geraldo and Al Capone's safe... :rotfl:

That's a very good analogy. She looks like a moron.

The difference is, Geraldo had no idea what was in the vault. Maddow knew that there was nothing incriminating in the tax return, yet she hyped it all up anyway. Why?! Just to inflate her ratings for one night?

Much Ado about nothing, although I think Trump leaked these b/c they were a good year for him (for the optics), tax wise. Still unanswered questions for sure, but the narrative that he didn't pay any taxes is somewhat deflated now....

In which 36,500,000 is "somewhat" more than zero.

Although who knows what has happened since then. And if he is resisting releasing them, I presume there's something he doesn't want anyone to see.

Don't know who released them. The only thing i got out of it was he had to pay like $31M bc of the AMT and wants to drop the AMT.

That is why I think he cherry picked this year to release the 1040.

I think he is a shrewd manipulator, yes. He clearly knows the media. The rest he is making it up as he goes...

since you believe he's the most prolific liar in the history of the presidency then it's probably safe for you to assume that when he stated he wants to drop the AMT....he was probably lying based on %'s...and so...that's probably a good thing....right?.....or is he only lying when you and he disagree? :hee:

I think he knows his friends but he knows his enemies better . I agree with you, I think he played them like a fiddle . Funny how whenever the left looks silly , it's because the other side was being manipulative or playing dirty . People like Rachel Maddow create her own problems

he probably planned back in 2005 to pay a lot of taxes for when he ran for president in 2016 so after he won he could drop the ONE year of tax returns in which he ever paid anything just to make Madcow look bad....very shrewd indeed ! :spin:

I know that you are just trying to be your usual snarky self but I only say he is lying when he actually lies.
