I set up the gosa 6K at 23" from the butt, did the table top bit to set the choke point and low and behold there is no choke point.... see below

went with the 27X and a KW8 choke, then set KW's down the reduction line,,, the two stripper locations I ended up with have me puzzled, which is very easy to do seeing as though I pretty much don't know what I'm doing...:-)

also the 20 and 16 hit the reduction line but end up not quite inside what I call the KR COF

if I have a question here,,, getting dizzy,,,,, are either of the stripper locals acceptable,,, ?

I have yet to do a surf rod. Done all kinds of boat rods and 50's and small spinners ........so take this with a grain of salt.

but, That doesn't look right to me. The collector looks very close to the reel. Also very surprised that the frame on the Saragossa doesn't have an angle to it more than that?????

Andy has a 1201m spinner and conv I think he said. Have him take some measurements on his rod and guides so you can cheat a little and compare.

And before you wrap gotta tape on and test cast. To nice of a rod to find out later it could have been layed out better the first time.......

Most guys I believe put the reel seat the distance from their have to your armpit, is that 23 for you?

I do , my spinner is an old school one with giant guides..But I'll get some measurements.

Slide a K20 next till it touches and same for a K12. You'll only need 3 reduction guides. This set worked great for a VS150. If you line slap on blank consider a KW30, KW25,KW20, KW10 or 12 (CHOKE) AND KW8 or #10 for runners .# 10 OR # 12 tip pending runner size. On another note, the KW16 would be a better ring choice instead of the 20 but lacks the height. I've mixed in a SV16 and bent frame the angle of K guides with good results.

Not done by a long shot, going to check out that KR GPS method next.

With KW guides you typically need to go 30-25-20-12 because the drop from the 30 -20 is too much (the guides end up too far apart).

Don't over focus on the "choke point". It is really an obsolete concept. The idea is to get the line tamed at the collector, transition down to the blank quickly and run it out the rod with small guides. A more current build (recommended by a bright rod builder on SOL...ZAFisher) using inexpensive guides might be KW30-KL20-KL12-choke KT8---kT 8's on out. This means you are using single foot guides out much of the rod (except for the collector) which will fish just fine but you need to take care in transport. The KL guides are higher than their KW counterparts. Or you can just go singles entirely and build a nice rod using KLH25-KLH12-KLM-8-KT8 choke and runners. The GPS software at anglersresource.net can help you with this.

I was trying to accomplish this KR with double foot but have come to the conclusion I need to mix it up with the KW's.. Kl's/kl-h's
The choke point always give the most trouble and I don't want to screw up this (better than I should have) rod you sold me... :-)

I drew another cad with the KR GPS to locate the choke, I'll post it later, if nothing else it may help someone learn how not to build... LOL

Gup, I would think using the KW30L @ 20" would work where the 25 is postion, 26' . I made a few 9' rods w/VS 150 reels in that similar position with the L GUIDE. This would shorten to a 3 guide reduction set up.just a thought while you're testing .

test cast this afternoon went less than smooth, brought different size sinkers to the local soccer field,,,, sinkers stuck in ground and had to walk after each cast to dig em out! not too bright hey? :-)

comes back with hookless plugs, same problem with a couple of them,,,,, landed right I guess... but still had to walk to pull out!

I suck at casting so not the best test, covered half a soccer field plus about 5 or 10 yards.....

I may mess with the layout or just wrap it and move on

Don't discount the single foot guides. I've been using them more frequently on larger rods and I really like them. They will hold any fish you'll encounter, but you can't bang them around too roughly as they will bend if you're careless.

The first guide in from the stripper is single foot, wish it was a little taller
