Pretty good off Gay Head yesterday.....although size small-medium. Fish were on the inside during the ebb. Didn't try around the corner but did run to SW shoal (off Nomans) which was also loaded. Larger fish out there barfing up small sandeels. Caught some seaherring as well (at GH).
No cod, however.
Felt great to cover some water.
Check out the high end tackle the buffoon I brought along uses.

A lobsterman told me about the Mac bite a couple weeks ago at gay head. Yesterday I got the call about all the porgies in New Bedford harbor

Such disparage and disrespect for my vintage fishing tackle! I'm saving the good stuff for better. I have a disrespect for mackerel and cod, and even black sea bass. So, I fish for them, albeit enthusiastically, but in a crappy manner and attitude.
Made my first honest beach bass try in the storm this AM. Nothing. However, again, I have an attitude about this early fishing; so, out comes my Murat 9.5 yellow Lamiglas vintage rod I used in college, paired with the Diawa I found on the beach in that era and refurbished, and paired it with a styrofoam Atom brass rigged Striper Swiper popper. Maybe this is why I don't catch with my attitudes.
Regarding the reel: It handles braid well. Understand that a reel, no matter how old, that lays line evenly on a spool, front to back-- will handle braid well. A reel, no matter how expensive, that doesn't-- won't.
