Nasty ransomware going around that locks up your files and requires you to pay to get them unlocked
If it is important, always backup your machine to a local hard drive and to the cloud (Carbonite or BackBlaze for example)

Does the automatic updates take acre of this problem. My computer just updated itself yesterday.

Did the updates yesterday, then ran a full scan. Took care of a couple minor issues.

If you already have a backup of your files prior to the ransom note what is the next step

If you get hit, you wipe the computer and restore to a point prior to the infection. If an older machine, get a newer one and restore the files.
