Looked at a 1995 Larson Hampton 200 with M/C 5.0 recently on consignment at a dealer. Looks like I'm good shape and had recent engine overhaul. Dealer says it is a freshwater boat but the two zincs on engine show some pitting and oxidation. Dealer says it was in a marina with many boats in close proximity where he says this can occur? Sound legit? Also any opinions on the boat model in general?

Very common scenario in a marina with lots of boats. Stray current.
I've never had experience with Larsons. I always heard of them referred to as Larsony's (as in larceny) because folks felt ripped off due to poor quality control. Take that with a grain of salt because, as I said, no personal experience.

All boats have zincs whether fresh or salt. The zincs help to fight electrolysis from stray electrical currents running thru the water and attacking the underwater metals.
Pits on the zincs mean they are grounded and working

Thanks guys, moving forward. Just paid for compression test on this 5.0 merccruiser. By cylinder starting with #1 readings are all in psi as follows: 160 160 155 155 155 160 153 155. Look ok?

Those numbers look fine. The important thing is consistency between those readings and those look pretty constant to me.

I pulled the trigger. After a week of running it on the lake I'm pretty happy with how it runs. First day on the boat my 4 year old looks at me and says, "Daddy, this is the best day of my life!". The engine could seize tomorrow and that one statement made it all worth it.

I plan on hauling it from New Hampshire to New York for the fall and spring runs on the Hudson and then back up to NH for next summer. Thanks for the feedback and making the purchase easier and less stressful. After almost 10 years I'm a happy boat owner again :-).

Nice!

Yep, zincs normal, compression test normal (within 10-15% IIRC)
