The trick is.... don't use eels when blues are around. Switch to wire leaders and jigs.
If you still want to attempt bass amongst the blues , stay right on the bottom. No garantee but it helps.

What Saltheart said---leave the snakes in the livewell. Get out the parachute jigs with that stiff nylon--don't even waste good bucktail on those razor jawed bastages :af: Or drop a diamond jig with a pork rind on the hook---it'll work just as well.

but I had all these eels and never knew when Im gonna get out again so we fed them good didnt want to bring them home the only mistake I made was not switching to wire leaders as you can guess lost a few hooks we had alot of fun out there weather was not bad as other places thank GOD water was calm I had two guys that never been out at night my big advise was to reel slow and and try to determine where your eels are in the water most new guys are not going to be paitent when they get a hit and try to set the hook hard while the eels two feet from the boat sucks getting whacked by an eel and possibly hooked so be careful!! they did excellent no airborne eels at all they had a ball with the bluefish Im just glad I could put them on fish!! next time though wire and jigs or chunk on the bottom cause you could see on the ff 25 ft of water 10-15 ft mark lot of fish and then right on the bottom I was marking alot so Itll keep me wondering if those were the big girls I was looking for!!
