I like to use a shocker on my braid set up. What's the stronger way to attach the mono to the braid? An, Albright or a uni to uni. Or is there a better knot that I should learn? Thanks Charlie

I like the Albright but a lot of the guys like the Uni.

polamar to a barrel swivel, then knot of choice to that.

Learn the FG knot. Stronger and slimmer. Simple to tie, but takes a while. It's not one you're going to be re-tying when out in the surf.

Simple to tie?
I haven't tried it myself, but I heard it wasn't easy. Not one to tie in the dark or in the surf.

It's definitely a knot best tied in the garage and not in the surf or on a rocking boat, but in terms of the tying, although it takes a few minutes, it's really only two different steps--no more complicated than an Albright, but slimmer and stronger. Sportfishing Magazine has posted a couple videos on the knot that are worth watching.

My attempts at an FG have failed..I stick with uni to uni. I've seen FG tied correct and they're great but I have two left hands apparently.

Agree about all the above. I feel naked without a "shocker" length leader; therefore, I handle reties under combat conditions with already made up leaders (with Fastlink already knotted on), and a short length of braid already FG knotted on the other end. Then, all I have to do is tie a quick blood knot, braid-to-braid.

I am making the assumption, of course, that you CAN tie a bloodknot under combat conditions, where your buddy is into his 3rd fish in 3 casts, while you are rerigging...

what is an FG knot?

An evil over/under ,tighten /don't tighten half hitch here, half hitch there...and still cast off a plug with all your leader material attached knot. Lol, obviously I need more practice with it.

There are some guys that love the knot, each with their own way of finishing it. No doubt it holds up great but I lack the patience to keep trying them.

If that's the case I am using a pre made up clip to mono to swivel leader.

If I'm with numbskull I just act helpless and stupid and he gets disgusted with my ineptness and does it for me with one of his fancy knots. They work great. The one on my boat conventional set up is two years old.

Fg knot if rigging at home. Get this tool. Makes short work of it and provides consistent results. It is important to "set" the knot before placing the half-hitches.

I have tried all three of the knots listed above and I feel like I am quite a picky knot person. They are all good knots. Personally I use the Albright, but only for the simple reason that I can tie it easier and quicker.

FG sounds like a great knot, but it lacks the ease and consistency of the uni/uni.....I still use the FG, but only when I'm rigging at home with good light. Albright has slipped wayyy too much for me.
