What is it? Do you have to buy "cork preserver" or is it something else just called cork preserver or cork sealer. Where can you get it?

i had a couple of tubes of "cork grease" left over from the days i used to repair musical instruments. used them on the corks grips of my rods, softened them up & made them pliable again ...
it is used on clairnets to keep the joint tight , no problems with it on the rods . you can get it at any music store , comes in a tube like chapstick :). we also used to use vaseline on new cork , just had to wipe it down good after it soaked it to get rid of the greasies ...

U-40, you put it on after sanding, but I usually leave it as the very last step on a custom rod. It penetrates the cork to seal it and it makes it much easier to clean down the road.
I was running low and just picked some up from Smitty at the Rod Builders Workshop, as a certain Slipknot character needs me to "wrap" things up on stuff I've had for months.
