Stupidly I thought I could get in some freshwater fishing yesterday on a small pond and avoid the high winds, but after two hours of frustration, I threw in the towel. I was however treated to something I've never witnessed, two banded king fishers dueling it out right over my head in the only sheltered cove I could find for twenty minutes. Man they have the most bizarre chattering calls when they are fighting over turf. I was pretty sure of the ID, but never having heard that vocalization, I goggled a couple videos of just exactly what I saw.

On a side note, they just don't make reels like they used to. Since my freshwater fishing is so limited to early spring and late fall, on getting back into it after buying the yak, I bought what I thought might be some decent conventional for the money and after only a year the Browning Medallion baitcaster spooled all the line on one side and it's day over. I guess I'll break it down and see if I can find anything, but it's going to be cheeper to buy another rather than fix the damn thing. Should have bought an ABU.

I love Calcuttas. I have one of the original Calcuttas (A?). I have heard that the new ones suck but the original were/are the balls. I caught a 43# bass at Ballston one August long ago on a 9' Loomis and a Calcutta.
