MakoMike 12-01-2017, 08:59 AM Where? Fishing deep water in the Gulf of Maine is much different than fishing the relatively shallow water off of RI.

nightfighter 12-01-2017, 12:52 PM Sounds like fun time. Never done one.
MAKAI 12-01-2017, 01:29 PM Went on an offshore all day fluke trip in August. Biggest tangled cluster F of fishing I have ever experienced. After 30 minutes I stowed the rod and worked on my tan on the top deck. What a LONG day. Rather have dysentery than do that again. Hope you have a far better experience.

Guppy 12-02-2017, 06:51 AM We're in! :-) Right Ross ?
Thanks Chris
MakoMike 12-02-2017, 09:06 AM For Georges I'd say that the outfit you originally proposed is a little too light. You need a rod that can handle at least 16 ounces of jig or lead, and crank fish off the bottom in 200 feet of water. Your outfit might do it fishing in 100-120 feet of water off the Block, but it a little light for Georges.

Dan, check your PM's
numbskull 12-05-2017, 02:36 PM My neighbor, an experienced offshore fisherman, went by private boat off Chatham two days ago.
He found it loaded with cod, big pollock, mackerel, a GW shark, and even a @#300 tuna that ate a cod jig and was lost boat side (no suitable gaff or harpoon aboard) after a 1.5 hour fight. The most life (birds, whales, fish) he has seen "offshore" all year. In December. Go figure.

I'd love to be in. If it's after April 1, I'll be back home.
