View Full Version : Waders, waders, waders......
Slingah 08-19-2003, 09:34 PM I just killed another pair and yet again purchased new ones.
Here is my question....who likes what? Brand? Stocking foot and wading boots or boot foot type? Neoprene or breathables? Felt or lug? How long do they last you?
I know this is an old topic, but just want to hear some specifics.
New pair on the way, I got the best they had............................
they won't last.:af:
You are better off getting two pairs of the best waders you can find so you can wear the second pair while the first pair is in transit for replacement.
Return them both at the end of the season so you start the new year off with 2 new pairs.
For rock fishing when I'm not wading, I prefer to wear short boots and splash pants like the commercial fishermen wear - virtually indestructable.
Mike P 08-20-2003, 06:05 AM There are only 3 sure things in life---death, taxes and leaky waders. They all leak, sooner or later. Even Gra-Lites.
If you live near an Orvis store, you might as well get a pair of them---that way, when they leak, you can stop in on the way to the beach and swap them on the spot for a new pair. Assuming they have your size in stock.
Otherwise, take Joe's advice and buy two pair so you have a spare while the replacements are in shipping ;)
fishweewee 08-20-2003, 06:56 AM Simms breathables - I have several pairs b/c even these will leak, especially if you fish rocks. Thankfully, the company is good about repairing them (for a nominal amount of $$$).
I prefer stockingfoots - they dry out much quicker than bootfoots.

RIJIMMY 08-20-2003, 07:21 AM I'm going just the opposite. I buy cheap waders from Bass Pro Shop, they're around $35. I think they're Red-Bone. They work great and I beat the hell out of them. If they leak, buy new ones. I guarantee you'll get more mileage and your $ worth than expensive waders.
Unless your just trying to look good for the other surfcasters...
The Iceman 6 08-20-2003, 08:28 AM I have a pair of Orvis breathable bootfoot waders (all about the one piece) and have experienced no prob. with them and I do fish on rocks just try and be extra careful when doing so. They do have an awesome return policy as between my dad and brother they must of returned @ least 10 pairs combined - not kidding - 10 freakin' pairs. The best is when my brother went trout fishing in the Farm. River and walked through several pricker bushed to get to the river, I fished the salt with him the following weekend and when we were done the water must of been up to his waist in the waders and I think some fish might of swam out of them. I stared taking casts in the parking lot there was so much water - returned no questions asked.

Christian 08-20-2003, 09:49 AM hodgmans, boot foots, neoprenes. i cant remember but i think ive had mine for 1 or 1-1/2 seasons. only 1 leak so far, that was easily patched, the last 2 pairs i owned all went down to my foot getting too big, and one with a nasty leak. they are hot and uncomfortable and smell REALLY bad after a while, and where the neoprene meets the boot you can get some pretty nasty chaffing. i have a scar there. a light pair of pants like pajama pants works good to stop chaffing. i abuse these things pretty badly, slide down rocks and stuff, and im just not careful at all with them, they take my abuse pretty well.
Slingah 08-20-2003, 01:08 PM Christian ... I had that chaffing problem too, scars also. I found neoprene socks that go a little higher than the seam and work great, Added cushion for all night walking helps too. I got mine at Sports Authority 2 years ago but have not seen them around since, but Cabela's has them.
chris L 08-20-2003, 01:46 PM I have had a pair orvis silver labels stocking foot for 3 years . nothey dry quicker and more support from wading shoes than bootfoots . I havent had any leaks yet and use them on rocks and thru rivers chocked with brush . one day they will fail and Ill return them for another pair .
And yes I buy orvis to look good to other surfcasters in spain !
nightfighter 08-20-2003, 08:16 PM Ditto on the Orvis silver breathables. I have the boot foot with felt and don't know any better. But no leaks so far and the company is awesome with replacements, even when it's pilot error..... (any reel companies out there reading this ought to take note!)
