I may have posted this before, if so I apologize. I'm looking for a woodworker who can center drill a 16 inch piece of dowel stock. Sanding and finishing would be nice too, but my big problem is finding someone who can drill it. Dowel will probably be 1.25 or 1.5 inch stock. Probably some sort of tropical hardwood, like Honduran rosewood. Anyone interested?

drilling that would be tough
better off cutting a groove in the 2 halves, then glue together and turn it to a dowel

you might try a machine shop with a horizontal drill

I was thinking a drill press?

Will def be tough.

Drill press would need to be set up perfectly and a sharp bit with the spurs ground off not to mention a very slow process using short bits to start and clearing any little amount of chips. And eventually going to an 8” bit.

No thanks. Im all set with that.

Curious.. What is this piece to be used for? How large a hole?

Wondering if you could glue up four pieces, each with one edge eased on a table saw at 45 degrees to produce the center hole. Then turn on a larger lathe than I have. Mine is a 1014.

Find a gun Smith. Same as drilling a rifle barrel

Its going to be the rear grip on a rod I'm building. I though about going with 2 8 inch piece with a thin trim band in the middle, but I'm not sure I like the idea yet. Drilling an 8 inch piece should be doable. Center hole will be around 22mm at the widest.

Not a bad idea! May try that if all else fails.
