Probably too late with this,
What’s a good plug selection, bolder field, 3pm high water, ton of wind right to left........

Hooked up and lost what looked like a keeper this morn on a ivory spook,,,, from the beach,,,, now, I’m hooked.... :-)

Don't do it !
It starts as one plug and never stops.
This is probably half of what the little demons have done to me.

I always envied the guy OTW did an article about that fished the canal with a Hopkins and an extra in his pocket.

I've heard a lot of chatter about this lure....got to get me one.
Good description of it below.

7" Lil Doc - Bone
This lure needs no introduction to those who know what it is and what it is capable of. There's even been days where in the right hands it has out-fished live bunker. The SWE on Thames Street in the early 2000's was the first time we laid eyes on this and it was a well-kept secret for almost a decade until word of its effectiveness on striped bass slowly spread.

At the time we knew the deadliness of the Jumpin' Minnow and wanted something bigger and happened to spot this online. We ordered some and were REALLY excited when we opened the box, only to be even more excited the first time we took it out on the water.

Much like other topwaters in this style it'll catch almost anything. We've even caught big bluefin tuna on them.

While these lures do come with solid hardware in the form of VMC 9626PS hooks, we recommend considering an even further upgrade due to both due to the ability of fish to get leverage on this bait as well as the possibility of attracting and hooking something enormous.

The 7" model weighs 2 3/4oz

A spook is usually a poor choice in any strong cross wind. The loop in the line makes it hard to control the plug......and the loop itself coupled with the sliding action of the plug combines to make the plug sail along too fast. If you want a surface plug in those conditions you are better with a pencil (which sits down more in the water)....or if it is really windy...a popper like a SuperStrike littleneck.

When faced with cross winds I prefer to throw lipped swimmers like dannys or donnys.

One tip on using spooks I've learned from watching the best spook fisherman alive. If a big fish misses, stop the plug and let it sit about three seconds longer than you can stand then twitch it once....let it sit again....then repeat. The fish will almost always crush it.

A sinking superstrike little neck popper (I like the large size) would work well in those conditions. It's actually a great surface swimming plug that casts really well and holds well in a cross wind. I usually just reel fast enough to keep it on the surface and give it an occasional pop.
