View Full Version : CTS VT: 2-4 Fergal 12-22-2018, 04:43 PM Got it yesterday, glued it up today. Fergal 12-22-2018, 04:44 PM butt dia Guppy 12-22-2018, 05:59 PM 3 oz. ! Wow, good luck with it pbadad 12-22-2018, 08:58 PM Nice light rod. Definitely I'd have to build up the butt for a good grip. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Fergal 12-23-2018, 09:04 AM Yeah, I'm not entirely sure about what I'm going to do. I want to keep the weight down but I think the butt will need a little more than cork tape and shrink will provide. pbadad 12-23-2018, 03:23 PM I do double wrap cork underlayment tape w/shrunk wrap over. Underlayment is much lighter than rubber external tape. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Fergal 12-23-2018, 07:29 PM Cork tape and 3m grip tape over it. I screwed up the only 1" shrink that I had so it will have to wait a bit until I get it. pbadad 12-24-2018, 07:43 AM I have some if u dont get it soon. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Fergal 12-24-2018, 08:07 AM Thank you but s/b good. I wasn't going to get to work on it until next monday or tuesday at best. I should have it by then. Fergal 12-24-2018, 09:58 AM The 25mm won’t shrink down enough to cover the bare blank in between the cork tape. That’s mildly annoying. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Fergal 12-24-2018, 02:35 PM I got rid of the grip tape which enabled me to get the 20mm shrink over it. Butt cap on as well. Probably a little while before I get back to it. Current weight with the handle on it. Fergal 01-01-2019, 07:39 AM Guides, I hope to test cast later today. Fergal 01-13-2019, 08:25 AM underwraps started pbadad 01-13-2019, 09:08 AM Nice color group. U underwrapping the single foot runners? Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Fergal 01-13-2019, 09:14 AM Nice color group. U underwrapping the single foot runners? Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device yes, underwrapping all of them. Should finish the underwraps and apply a coat of finish today. My workspace is pretty cold, it will probably take 36 hours or longer to cure. The next time I work on them will probably be friday. beamie 01-13-2019, 06:11 PM I like it. Is that regular nylon that you are going to use CP on. And you are going to put a thin finish coat on before putting on the guides? If using CP what kind do you like? Using aftcote finish? Fergal 01-13-2019, 06:52 PM Regular nylon, no cp. I really only use cp on dec wraps. Finish is a mixture of threadmaster and pro-kote, ~60:40 tm to pk. Fergal 01-13-2019, 06:54 PM light coat of finish beamie 01-13-2019, 07:39 PM Nice I am a bit surprised that the lighter whiter thread with no cp did not get more transuscent over that darker blank. Everything always looks a bit different dry vs wet with no cp, sometimes for the better and sometimes disappointing. Everything always looks a bit different dry vs wet with no cp, sometimes for the better and sometimes disappointing. It's a light gray over silver, it does have a translucent look to it. Guppy 01-14-2019, 07:08 AM It's a light gray over silver, it does have a translucent look to it. Wondering Is there a reason for two layers versus gray with silver accents other than a great looking Awesome looking wrap! pbadad 01-14-2019, 08:08 AM Using silver under a light color thread W/O CP , helps the blank color bleeding through. And yes , Drew does a very neat wrap. Patience in underwrapping #8 single foots is paramount. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device beamie 01-14-2019, 08:58 AM That explains it. I thought the silver was just trim bands. With no CP this silver under grey blends to a nice color. Fergal 01-14-2019, 09:03 AM I like the look. I could have done the gray in little trim bands but it’s just easier/faster with one wrap vs messing and trying to get a 2-3 thread trim band to work. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Ya, the tapper gives it a nice look , it’s like you like the look of something but not sure why,,, the devil is in the detail... :-) Same thing applies to architecture... Going to do a 120 2 pcs soon.... Fergal 01-20-2019, 03:34 PM today Fergal 01-20-2019, 03:35 PM one more pbadad 01-20-2019, 05:46 PM Nicely calculated for symmetry. Wrap colors blend well. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Fergal 01-20-2019, 08:01 PM Thanks, down to the half mm Fergal 01-22-2019, 05:08 PM first coat of finish Fergal 01-22-2019, 05:09 PM .. pbadad 01-22-2019, 07:17 PM Nice and clean. Simple fore transition. Looking good. I would like to feel the rod once its done and compare the same rod done ngc. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Fergal 01-23-2019, 09:19 AM I’m looking forward to throwing when it’s done. Test casting, it seemed to be a solid 1-2.5/3oz rod. Thats what I was looking for. That covers the majority of stuff that i throw. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Fergal 01-26-2019, 07:28 AM Done, but considering one more coat on the ramp to make it flush with the grip. Fergal 01-26-2019, 07:29 AM ... Fergal 01-26-2019, 07:29 AM ,.,. pbadad 01-26-2019, 08:32 PM Some reason i didnt notice the blank is blue . Nice color coordinated build. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device Fergal 01-27-2019, 08:14 AM thanks, i want to get a look at it in some decent light. Fergal 01-27-2019, 12:32 PM last couple. final build weight was ~10.4oz. pbadad 01-28-2019, 07:12 AM Looks great and will be like casting air. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device PaulS 01-28-2019, 09:00 AM Nice job Drew. Fergal 02-04-2019, 09:05 PM Nice job Drew. Thanks Fergal 02-04-2019, 09:09 PM Looks great and will be like casting air. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device I'm hoping to get out and throw it tomorrow. I would have liked to keep the build weight under 10oz (if I knew it was this close). Comparing the epoxy on this rod vs others, I was a little heavy (granted, subtle difference). I also might have been able to tweak the grip a bit to shave a little weight. Fergal 02-05-2019, 05:56 PM I took advantage of the good weather and threw this rod for a bit. I only had stuff that was up to ~2.5oz or over 4oz. 4 is basically a no go on this rod, I wasn't expecting to throw 4 anyway. The rod handled everything up to 2.5 beautifully. Absolutely what I wanted out of this rod. Hopefully, it fishes as well as it throw. 2.5 covers most of the plugs I throw, cutty stuff, etc. I'm not sure if it will throw my rigged eels. I'm thinking it might be just short there. I also upgraded to a Renzetti lathe. Set it up today, might mess around with it later tonight if I can get back to my office. pbadad 02-05-2019, 08:07 PM Sounds like it works for you. Most of the plugs most people throw is 3oz under. Sounds like a perfect blank. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
