Lost a few that I couldn't get unstuck from the bottom.
Thinking of trying the breakaway setup i've heard about that will pull from the bottom end of the anchor.

Any thoughts or suggestions on retrieving stuck anchors appreciated.

Do it. Takes practice, but isn’t hard. Try in some sandy bottom a few times to get the hang.

Much easier, especially for bigger anchors and deep water. just don’t clear it off in the back as you don’t want to pull the transom down....

Thanks....No I wont try pulling from the transom.....heard of too many sunken boats due to that maneuver. I had tried bouncing the bow up and down in the chop while taking up the slack around the sampson post.....also tried moving the boat and pulling from the opposite direction... didn't work. Not worth risking life and limb I know.....when I can just buy another.

Clip on a poly ball and drive away from it. Will float it right to the top.

This blew my mind the first time we did it.

On my old boat, which I built like you, a ClarkCraft 20' Mariner fish and ski that I had a slant 6 in. I use to use something like this to chunk bass in the rocks of cohasset that had lots of ledges.

Because I lost a couple that I couldn't get out.

Also didn't spend allot of money on expensive anchors. Now will these cheap anchors hold in a good blow, probably not but when just using to fish an area it worked for me.

Note that this is not really to get stuck anchors out that are jammed in a ledge rock. Just saves all the back breaking of hand over handing off the bottom when anchoring deep.

But... Coupled with a reverse rigged anchor it usually comes back.....

Poly ball is a great option, and does save the back. Not 100% if flukes are dug into ledge crevice or a long trawl line of lobster traps. I carry three anchors on my 20'. Keep your eye out for marine items at yard sales. I have found at least three full set ups of anchor, chain, and rode this way for stupid short money....

I appreciate all the feedback...... great thing about this forum is the collective wisdom...helps a lot because i've only been around boats for a couple of years.

Ross...I keep two anchors with me.... lost a fortress anchor that i paid too much for......ill scan the yard sales for sure.
