This means nothing for the fishery. It’s cerimonial bragging right thing. A locally caught (japan) fish. First of the year.

The the Pacific bluefin tuna is labled as "vulnerable,"
The Atlantic bluefin tuna, a close relative to the Pacific bluefin, is listed as endangered
the southern bluefin, is critically endangered.
