I actually am borrowing someone else's river the next few weeks. On an average year I start getting fresh fish in my parts of the CT river around the first week of May. Last year it started for me a little late. If the water levels allow me to access the shore, I believe I will be getting them the last week of April this year. I have a very simple formula that I have used for years to predict when I will get them.

Bump: Read some of OTW weekly fishing reports. Stuff is starting to happen a bit early this year down south in regards to migratory larger fish.

Slamming pickerel locally and one of my early spring spots has a large herring run and ospreys were everywhere last week down there. Picked up a couple nice largemouth, but the bass bite hasn’t been hot yet.

First fish of the season went 26#s. My Aunt passed at 57 years old 5 hours prior me catching that fish. She was definitely smiling on me that night.

Thanks man!

Don’t want to derail the thread, but mentioned my Aunt because so many things came together that day for me to catch that fish, and fishing is what she’d want me to do so I truly believe she was with me. I’ve been hunting that early season unicorn for many years and it just so happened that it came that night. Can’t make this stuff up.

Hope everyone has a good start to the season.
