A 17 year old Lad of Cuttyhunk. Rode out the storm on the West side of the Fish Pier(this was before the apron on the West was built)on "Coot" Hall's "Eel" a 37 Foot Wm. Hand Designed power vessel. At 1000 Hrs L on that morning we were pushing the boat off of the Roof of the Fish Shanties. The water was just lapping at the top of the roof.
By 1500 Hrs L the wind had come round from the SE to the NW and the harbor was almost empty of water.
When the "eye" went by around noon we brought the "Eel" around to the East side of the Fish Pier and by 1500 she was sitting on the bottom cause all the water had gone out of the Harbor.
Could write more but that is just one highlite in my memory.
What are your memories of that Storm?

i was only two at the time but being in my terrible 2's stage i squirmed out of my mothers grasp ripped off my diaper , grabbed my minature surf board and paddled out to catch a huge wave.
My parents were horrified because i went naked so afterwards i got grounded and they locked my surfboard in the garden shed.:bc:

then to avoid a big spanking i had to sign a "be a good baby contract":rtfm:

so next:call: i called my lawyer and asked (in baby talk) if i could sue them
for denying me my "pursuit of happiness" since i could only make a squiggly line for a signature...and he said it was perfectly legal.

so i screamed ever so loudly:crying: :bc: forcing them to settled out of court with a full bag of cookie's....and some bazooka bubble gum.

nor-easter. Growing up on Cutty did you know a fellow by the name of Vincent Thompson. He was a good family friend. He would be in his late 80's of still alive. Married to a fine woman named Alice.

Thompson...."Muggsy" ran the store on the Island. Came from down Connecticut someplace. Had a few kids. One stayed and ran the store after her parents passed on. Muggsy was a really good caster. Fished the beach lots!
His kids were too young. They are like in their mid forties now.
