I kept the kid out of school yesterday to go fishing we ended up at the west wall. We walked to end, super proud of the girl. When we were approaching the fish trap we saw what looked to be a sunfish flopping around. Are they usually around this early in the year? I have seen them in August and September but never this early. I didn’t get closer than about 100 yards to it. Black fin looking like a shark but had a side to side wobble in it and was moving rally slowly. Also saw a decapitated harbor seal ☹️😀 and caught a window pane flounder for the first time, good day on the water with the kid.
I saw one this time last year in bi sound.

If she wasn’t 11 I would have played her the video for sure. Next year so I can get step parent of the year award.

Saw 1 yesterday about 3 miles off Westport mass. Was thinking it was early for them to be around also.

I've seen them in July off the Merrimack river which is probably cooler then than RI is now ; )
(this assumes they are migratory in the way of species we are used to)

Yup. A buddy saw one today out front of Newport. Seems early but then again one of the sakonnet traps already had a lone bonito so who TF knows....
