I believe the only technicality they could get him on, which wasn't represented in the video, is that you need to access the water via public land. If he had to cross private land and did so without permission then might have a case, but if not then he is 100% within his rights to gather seaweed as it appeared he was doing. Just another page in the looooooooong saga of Westerly beachfront landowners against the public. They complain when people use public land in front of their homes as they are allowed to do per state constitution, but they'll be the first ones in line for public funds when a hurricane wipes out their property.

If he accessed the beach thru public land and was below the high tide mean mark he was 100% legal. I've met some very nice homeowners down there as well as some real #^&#^&#^&#^&s. Maybe we should all legally gather in front of this house.....

Had the Westport harbormaster threaten me when I was catching hickory shad inside the Westport Yacht Club to liveline as someone called and he said I had no right to be just inside the floats to drop sibiki rigs. I wasn't going to argue with him, but clearly I had the legal right to fish around the docks.

July 6th is the day that there scheduled protest will be right in front of the house. It’s in Charlestown beach. There’s 3 public access points there so this person who obviously has had problems there before and staged this confrontation to prove a point knew exactly what he was doing.

I wouldn't assume all police know all applicable laws either.

I'll be there! Scheduled for 10am, but I'd get there earlier if you plan on attending as there's been quite an uproar (and rightfully so) over this.

Just to be sure, because it is good for the kids, not because you want to piss off the neighbors.

One can also barge in mung from the Cape and have it deposited maybe 50 feet offshore and let it accumulate in front of the house. Muahahaha

Maybe someone could mail a copy of the state constitution highlighting the pertinent area to all the whining and complaining homeowners and copy to the police, the security company and maybe the judge that will see this case as well. Sometimes rich people suck and if you think you can buy privacy on the waterfront, think again.

California doesn’t mess around with this,,, if you’re a citizen you’re guaranteed 100% access to the states shoreline.
If a homeowner builds a dock out to deep water for their boat it must include a passage of some sort and the dock open to the public during daylight hours,,,, lots of locked gates at the ends of these docks...;-)

The area I walked each morning in SD had me walking through manicured million dollar back yards legally.... pretty cool
