Cool Beans 07-23-2019, 11:52 AM There are 8 or 9 active threads in the political forum (past 24 hrs) while there's only 2 or 3 on this forum, which were "no fish", "it's raining" and "what I did or wanna do last weekend"...…
There used to be so many really good posts on this site concerning fishing, lures, baits, lure making, moon phases, tides and actual people fishing.
I guess as this site has aged, so has the majority of the regulars.... Everyone has become "get off my lawn" cranky old farts that sit on the porch complaining about politics....
I miss the old site where fishermen talked about fishing.
:sleeps::deadhorse::shark:
piemma 07-23-2019, 12:16 PM I don't post in the political forum. I post here but not a lot about fishing as I don't fish anymore. If the stocks recover and someone with an oz. of brains puts some realistic bag limits and size limits in place, I will fish again.
It has nothing to do with my age as I work harder and more now than ever and I'm 71. I also play golf 2 or 3 days a week. It has to do with the fact that my beloved Stripers are in real trouble.....AGAIN!
I know, I know, there are other fish. When I fished 100 nights a year, I fished for Stripers. I'm not interested in Fluke or Scup or BSB. I use to pride myself on being a Striper fisherman. Perhaps I am being myopic. That's my prerogative.
I think everyone will agree that fishing isn't what it once was. On top of the stocks in trouble, we have the seals taken over the Outer Cape, the plovers on The Back and restrictive forces closing beaches in RI and ROWS.
So there Cool Beans. That's my 2 cents.
Clammer 07-23-2019, 01:11 PM paul . the problem with what your saying & I agree is try telling it to the all the guys fishing BI . the commercial when it was open ...which they personally closed very quickly …………………...the charter boats from RI, MA CONN< NY . the black market boats &&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&& all the rec boats ………...all these boats get to slam them every day …& the next day & the next day .
I really don,t know for sure what difference it makes , but it can,t be helping to be catching these XK breaders .40, 50 & 60,s on a regular basis .
& catch and release .I question the C&R when they are caught on wire .with jigs & umbrellas ……….. when hooked .pulled thru the water while most boats keep on jigging hauled in the boat & at some time tossed back in .
again I,m no saint & I do commercially fish them & if I could I would fish BI .
But it would be nice to put it off limits & enforce it but the charters will never let that happen ……….. even thro when they arn,t killng them at the block the majority of these same guys are crying .>there ain,t no bass ……………. which is B/S ………...just that its not like fishing in a hatchery or these same guys don,t have a clue on how or were to find them
Yes it was a very difficult year to catch commercial size bass in the bay……………. it took less than a week for the 100, s of boats that have been fishing the spring run to completely disappear .
Yet there were a handful of very hard core bass fisherman that had very successful season ….. but they truly earned it ><>
Got Stripers 07-23-2019, 01:47 PM Game fish status, look at the success FL has had and imagine how well the stocks would rebound and charter business for catch and release booming. I have targeted stripers one day all year and that was only because schoolies were busting on route to catch sea bass and one tog.

MAKAI 07-23-2019, 03:45 PM I used to fish to relax and take it all in. Now, you are either denied access or be prepared for a knife fight with an asylum seeking DB.
So I’ll just bobber fish a trout pond in the fall. Until those fish get targeted for sale in my local restaurants.
Sad

Rockfish9 07-23-2019, 04:07 PM I don't bother posting because no one cares about fish caught, or fished for North of Boston., especially if they are caught from a boat ..for the record, it's been good, not saying it's been easy, but large fish have been present all the way to Maine, and those putting in their time are being rewarded.

Cool Beans 07-24-2019, 09:10 AM Well, I will be out this afternoon fishing and checking my lobster pots.
My daughter and I have caught a few nice stripers, starting to get nice keeper fluke in the bay, BSB have been plentiful but mostly shorts. Oh and I've been seeing blues again in the bay. Went a couple years without any and last week we caught 4 blues while fishing for bass. It's good to see them back in the bay. On a side note we haven't been seeing many scup at all, normal years we'd catch them all the time while fluking or after BSB, I wonder why their numbers seem to be down.....

I don’t understand the “new post” thing. I’ve never once had to click on that and be directed towards the political forum. I just go to the home page and click on stripertalk and just choose what forums I want to view. Usually end up here.
As far as fishing goes, social media has really destroyed my passion for the sportt. Even when I’m not on FB and IG, you can still tell when people are posting real time reports. It’s turned into an absolute chit show out there, even in once quiet places. Just not worth the headache anymore .
I also think there’s way less fish around, at least inshore. I know where to still find them, but it’s just too much time for not much of a reward at this point.
And I agree with what was stated earlier. I’m not anti comm, I held a permit at one point. I’m more disgusted with what I see from the rec community. I’m all for game fish status at this point.

Have fun catch fish and help each other be better fisherman..... its not a battle or a war.. just have fun.. enjoy the water, friends, family and above all else enjoy FISHING... stop being a bunch of old farts being A holes

Here’s some fishing advice... there’s pnuts around and the Aug new moon is approaching. The fish will be staging to make a push. Might be the best time of year to go large in any part of New England considering recent trends. Commit to eels at night and throw white pencils at dawn from the rocks. Don’t pay attention to water temps...

I definitely wasn't directing anything towards any one individual, but more complaining how slow this site has become. I honestly think the political forum ruins things a bit. Political opinions and all out arguments in that forum, I feel sours some people from fishing with other people. My only point to this thread was I REALLY miss the old site where it mostly fishing talk. Especially in the current environment, politics should be far from fishing. I get mad at myself every time I read that forum as it has become nothing but the same 2 sides telling each other they are full of crap or racists. Got Stripers 07-26-2019, 05:50 PM I think a good debate over best methods to catch during the summer, the best show to hit in the off season is fun stuff or the pros and cons of making our beloved striper a game fish. The heat goes up with each subject as it’s now touching on someone’s potential seasonal revenue source, but thoughtful exchanges are educational, maybe enlightening and maybe proves some impetus for change. I don’t know why the activity on the main boards has lessened, but I suspect if it parallels my lessened interest in putting in the time to fish; it’s the natural progression of a board with aging members.
I personally don’t see the political board as a negative, although at times it certainly can get that way, but being involved and passionate about the direction our government and the world as a whole can’t be a bad thing.
You want more meat on the main boards than bring it. If you want advice ask for it, there is a wealth of experience on this site. Want to meet some of the members you haven’t or possibly get out and fish with them, I have found everyone to be more than willing to get you out.
As my good buddy Clammer says, be thankful for what you have and spark one up and chillax

ProfessorM 07-28-2019, 08:00 PM I’m enjoying the hell out of this thread, just saying
me too
Yeah, posts aren’t what they were 10 years ago. I think there are 3 reasons
1. Facebook
2. The fishing has declined a bit.
3. The site and people are getting old. I mean, if you like at the start dates for the posters, most have been on the site for 15 years or more. Hey, we need some new posters!

Yes.... first Clinton held a stinky cigar to my head, then Obama's Muslim friends made me read it... and now Trump makes me read it because I'm scared the Mexicans are gonna get me.
Seriously though: this post was never meant to be negative or illicit rude comments. It was just a simple fisherman missing how it used to be, where most of the conversations were on fishing, friends, family fun, boats, kayaks, and fishing from rocks. We are fishermen and not politicians.... they tell lies for a living.. we tell them for a hobby.

Use die fotze or die muschi . its german with the same meaning and won't be changed to &^%*$@
Oh yeah the reason I was here .
Political forum FOOOOEYYYY . Never been there in all the years IT has been on the site . There are certain things that are not worth the argument over someone else's opinion that doesn't jive with your own . I very seldom talk religion or politics with humans and neither topic are even in the same realm . It is just me !
I deleted the rest
Nevermind

All valid suggestions. The sponsor point is well taken. Habs is still at the top of almost every page.
For what it's worth, I'm not sure John is into the site the way he once was. Lot of work with very little monetary return.
JohnR 07-31-2019, 07:36 AM He wants me to do the update I've promised the last 67 years ; )
I don't blame him

What I was doing for a while was putting this site (and fishing) in front of my family and the mortgage. Sorry - can't do.
If someone with a bit of tech and fishing prowess wanted to partner ; ) I would consider it.

John, I hope you didn't take my comment as criticism.
bassballer 07-31-2019, 06:33 PM Thanks Ray. Really miss the boat. Gonna downsize next year, buy a smaller place and a boat.
That's the ticket Paul. Hope to see you out on the water again next year.
bassballer 07-31-2019, 06:45 PM Saw Steve this past Spring. Retired from Quaker but still fishing Frenchman's.
Miss going in the QL and BS'ing with Steve. Picking his brain. One of the good guys. Im only 37 but seems like a long time ago. Miss those surf nights. I still fish a decent amount and will really hit it when the fish show up in my neck of the woods, but since havin a family I really enjoy the boating aspect as well. We spend weekends on the boat going to block island and MV, hanging at the marina. And guess what...… Sometimes I don't even bring a rod!!!
Clammer 07-31-2019, 08:31 PM smaller place yes.smaller boat [no] WE need one with A/C & spot on trolling motor so no anchor :bounce::bounce::bounce:

Jay, family memories become more important than any fish. Happy for you guys.
SAUERKRAUT 08-01-2019, 04:52 PM I don't post in the political forum.
PLUS 2 MR. PIEMMA. +2.
But: I have not stopped fishing. I am 72; therefore, you and I will be dead before any of today's 15-20 inch yearlings are 40 pound fish. I am fishing over an ever dwindling number of viable adult fish. You should keep going as there is no second chance.
Separately, I took a 41" just under 31 lb. bass this AM. My first over 30 this year! You gotta be kidding? And we had a methodical and beautiful release; but this example means nothing to the witnessing crowds and hoards of people present, to whom the resource means nothing other than a $$$ sign, or a brag, or a meal far inferior to a 12 lb. fish.
Yours,
A very sour SauerKraut.
