Thanks Krispy Mike P 09-02-2003, 11:46 AM So far I've tried Whiplash and Fireline. Zero problems with both. Next step---either 50# or 65# Power Pro. fishweewee 09-02-2003, 12:01 PM Fireline 20 lb. test on the smaller reels. Fireline 30 lb. test on the bigger reels. Bassmaster is a big fan of 14 lb. test on the sand, but that' s a little light IMO for the Rhody rocks. -WW tlapinski 09-02-2003, 12:34 PM i have used both whiplash and stealth on mine. i go with 65# on my 200's and my 250. the stealth has been nothing short of AWESOME for me! one word of advice, though, make sure it is intitially packed on as tight as possibel. you can do this by either having a tackle shop with a spooler do it, or load it onto an old conventional first, then have someone hold the reel while you reel the line back onto the VS. i also had a 150 that i put 50# on and i was happy with the results of that. rwilhelm 09-02-2003, 12:50 PM While we are on the subject of braid, how much backing of mono are you supposed to put on and the best way to tie it? Tattoo 09-02-2003, 02:12 PM Tried the spiderwire stealth, nice. Very limp, but a bit thick. Switched to 50lb Power Pro. Doesnt cast that well the first few nights out, but once it breaks in it's a beautiful thing. Krispy 09-02-2003, 02:40 PM Thanks all, I use 50 PowerPro on most all reels, and have a couple bulk spools Id like to finish. Tattoo, good to know PP works well on VS, thanks. I dont put mono backing on my reels, I just spool the whole thing with braid. Whats saving 100yds of braid gonna do for me? :D tlapinski 09-02-2003, 02:43 PM krispy, do you put any mono on the spool? if not, don't you get slippage since the braid doesn't sinch down on the spool? i put at least on full pass on the spool of mono. on my VS's, i fill just shy of the innermost holes in the spool. i never liked PP. every batch i have used has fallen victim to the "mysterious breakage syndrome". Krispy 09-02-2003, 03:04 PM nah, never had the breakage, other than my own damn fault. I put a wrap off that cloth sports tape on the spool, Ive never, ever had slippage and it'd take a really big fish to pop the knot at the bottom of the spool I do that on all my reels Mike P 09-02-2003, 08:12 PM Stealth is too thick. I'll bet 65# Stealth is as thick as 30# mono. Tried jigging the Ditch with it and the same jig that was getting to the bottom with Power Pro wasnn't even touching with Stealth. Same pound test. Plus, it casts like crap. hooked 09-04-2003, 09:01 PM Krispy, I'm loading up a new reel using tape as a backing as your post suggested. What type of a knot do you use when attaching the braid to the spool? All the knots that I've used for mono slip when tied with PP. I'm hoping to get spooled sometime soon. Thanks =============== I think I answered by own question. It looks like a couple wraps locked down by a Uni is the ticket. If I'm wrong, please don't tell me. vBulletin® v3.8.7, Copyright ©2000-2025, vBulletin Solutions, Inc.
