Any of you build your own boat? I have decided that I need a larger boat and am looking at Bolger or GlenL designs for a stitch and glue cabin-cruiser.

I have access to a (currently quite over filled) barn with standard garage door, plus a very large back yard that can double as work area if need be.

Maybe I could find someone with an extra boat who would lease it to me. I would pay it off over the next few years at some percentage plus minor interest a month...

What about a Boaters Time share?
They do it for vacation homes and airplanes.
Whynot for boats?

MTL,

I don't know nutin about building, leasing etc....

BUT, what I do know is used boats are a "dime a dozen".
So many people buy one without knowing what they are getting in to and it is for sale shortly after.

If you have the know-how and space to build one, should be no problem fixing one up...and....

You can find a great deal without much effort.

JMHO...

If I could find a 16-20' with or without trailer that someone doesn't want on their lawn anymore that would be great!!

Heck they could even pay me to remove it - heh heh.

MTL- Take a ride down to Hewitts Cove/Landfall marina. They have been clearing both yards up in preperation for the condo project. I bet there are quite a few boats/trailers that you could take for free. They've chopped up a dozen or so in the last few weeks.

Any idea who or where I would go to talk about that?

update: I drove through there tonite and saw mostly sailboats.
If anyone has a tip for a real inexpensive boat that needs only minor repairs please let me know!!
