Just like Lindsey Graham said: "If we nominate Trump we [the Republican Party] will get destroyed ... and we will deserve it".
It’s been a remarkable rout for elected Republicans since Trump took office. From 34 GOP governors in 2016, Democrats have since flipped Illinois, Kansas, Maine, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Wisconsin, and Kentucky—leaving only a bare GOP majority (26) come January.
