on msn home page theres a search bar how do you clear drop down recent searches! ive cleared cookies history everything but that history is still there! any answers

go to you tools at the top of explorer click that and go down to the bottom click internet options and you should find it there

On the Internet Options box, click "Clear History" You may also want to set you history to 0 days.

no serious im just cleaning this computer of junk and i was wondering why it wont go away i did all that i think its got something to do with msn

Mr Macey, that history may be stored on a cookie txt file on your computer, so everytime you access msn.com they read that file and load up the history. clean out the cookie jar...:D and webpages are hiding cookies in your (For W98 and W95) computers in "C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files" you go and delete all content using "Tools", Internet Options frome IE's toolbar... remove all files and then check that folder (you may need to change your settings to see hidden and system files). Any files left in that directory are hidden cookie files )99% of the time).

Looking in the "Temporary Internet Files" directory it looks empty... try to go back to "Windows" directory and right click on the "Temporary Internet Files" and select "Find" type * just a single "*" leave out the " and see how many files and folders you find. There is an interesting file in there called "index.dat"...... you delete all cookies and temporary internet files... this file contains a log of them all...

To clear the history and prevent more from coming in and revealing your surfing habits you have two options with IE.

1. Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files/Settings ( and put it to 1 or 2 MB of space )
NOTE: Cookies don't gather information or intelligence, they do remember what you did last time at that site and ease the job for your browser when you return by retaining certain voluntary information you enter the first time. This DOES NOT include any sensitive info such as CC # or addresses.

2. Tools/Internet Options/History/ ( set it to 1 or 2 days )

In both instances - clear the subject after you make the settings.

The only drawback to these settings is that your IE has to load the site page and pictures each time you go back.

Both those settings make it easy (by storing information on your computer ) for your Browser to remember what was there to load it faster the next time you return to that site.

just click on the search box so it displays all of the recent searches then mouse down over the selection you want to delete so its highlighted and hit the delete key. That should remove just that entru from the autofill selection. This is for IE 6 I'm not sure if it works on older versions of IE
