View Full Version : how are you handling home confinement
scottw 03-31-2020, 07:53 AM trying to get some fly casting practice in the yard....I will never be more prepared for a season...usually have tons of plans that I realize I didn't get to most of them and it's already June...wondering what fw opening day will look like in RI(usually avoid this but curious) it could be interesting....if I go to Mass to fish and come back to RI do I have to quarantine for 14 days?
Sea Dangles 03-31-2020, 08:07 AM I have a boat coming on 95N as we speak. Now I just need to have an open boatyard so I can get some bottom paint on it. Then I need my marina to open so I can go fish and get away from my family😁. Meanwhile, my gardens are waking up and the peas are germinating and the onion sets are in while I slowly start different vegetables in the basement to be ready for mid May. It’s fun to watch my boys play video games online with their friends, it seems like they don’t miss a beat as they laugh and scream and interact like it’s business as usual.
I hope Gina allows the new Onslow to travel over her highways. 🤮

PaulS 03-31-2020, 08:13 AM bored sitting at home. Taking long bike rides on weekends. built and planted a small raised bed last week to expand the garden. Reading more books. I WFH a few days ago previously but I miss the interaction of going in the office some days.
wdmso 03-31-2020, 08:25 AM Dont get ideas from you tube easy to watch ... not so easy to do
JFigliuolo 03-31-2020, 09:27 AM I'm far from social to begin with... so I'm doing fine. Only thing pissing me off is people in the stores during the "#^&#^&#^&#^& hours i used to shop to avoid people in stores.
Wow " OFF " is a dirty word now??????

RIROCKHOUND 03-31-2020, 09:36 AM Home schooling and working from home.... I do miss my interactions with colleagues and students, particularly y research students working on what would have been presented at a now canceled conference.... We have meetings via Teams, but it isn't the same...
Will think about gear soon, this has me debating spring tog from either the rocks or board.... we will see.
Otherwise,
Paddling when I can, (hopefully after work today)
Improvised Gym in the garage
Near daily hikes/walks and at least 20min of yoga a day.
scottw 03-31-2020, 09:50 AM debating spring tog from either the rocks or board.... we will see.
tog from the paddle board....YES!!
RIROCKHOUND 03-31-2020, 10:02 AM tog from the paddle board....YES!!
We'll see. I bucktail off it some for fluke but no bait.
Kind of a pain to bring bait, but I do have crab traps at the house.
Pete F. 03-31-2020, 10:13 AM Working from home, be interesting to see if the stuff I'm bidding gets done. One is a school project that starts at the end of school (currently closed) and has to be done by 8/15. Maybe it will be essential or back to work by then?
Other than that, playing golf, tying flies and probably fishing this afternoon for elusive Champlain trib steelies, there might be some smallmouths upriver also. They aren't usually there till taxtime, but Vermont golf courses aren't usually open March 13th either.
The Dad Fisherman 03-31-2020, 10:34 AM Working from home during the week, doing some projects around the house. Managed to get a new ceiling and paint in the family room. Probably going to get some peas and lettuce going in the garden this weekend
Daughter came home Sunday for a couple of weeks because she lives alone and was going nuts staying home so we’ll catch up on movies we’ve wanted to watch.
It’s all good

Got Stripers 03-31-2020, 03:26 PM I'm running out of indoor and outdoor projects to do, did some chainsaw carving today to let the neighbors know I'm alive and well. Hoping for some warmer weather to go after some freshwater fishing in the kayak.
Clammer 03-31-2020, 03:34 PM somehow I,m gonna try digging tomorrow .or I won,t have a house left this is gonna be a long hall ><>
Guppy 03-31-2020, 04:52 PM Same o same o, out the door in the morning, back in for a scotch end of day and watch the news....
Clammer 03-31-2020, 06:03 PM By now .DON,T watch the news .its waaaaaay past the depressing stage & our not gonna hear anything that will change what your doing ><>
fishgolf 03-31-2020, 06:41 PM Time to paint the garage interior, lots of golf and fishing gear to move around. Checking for new recipes. Checked inventory of Tylenol, Advil, cough syrup etc... Sanitizing everyday now. Wife gets home from the Hospital and changes in the garage and the uniform goes right into the washing machine and she goes right into the shower.
Drove to western Mass and back today 6 hour round trip. Lots of traffic, surprised by that.
Jimbo 04-01-2020, 09:52 AM Pretty frustrating to live in NJ these days. People my wife and my age are supposed to think twice about going to the store, but we don't have a choice since online grocery shopping is so backed up you can't reserve a delivery date. Wife's doctor just called to tell her the apex will hit NJ within the next three weeks so stock up today and don't leave the yard for the next three weeks. I'm only allowed to walk to the mailbox as it is right now. Anything I'd call a hobby I like to do was shipped up to the Cape last year. I'm down to doing jigsaw puzzles with my wife.
On a bright note, I guess, she said hospitals in our area, should we need to go, are in pretty good shape to accommodate; north Jersey and New York City are screwed, there's just not enough beds and supplies.
It's like that movie, "The Day After Tomorrow". Fortunately the local liquor store offers reliable delivery or curbside pickup. Helps with the frustration
Stay safe folks.
fishbones 04-01-2020, 10:16 AM I’m still going in to the office during the week but I’ve been getting a lot of work done inside the house and in the yard since I can’t go anywhere after work or on weekends. I’ve got more yard work done than I’ve done in the last 15 years combined. At night I’ve been catching up on tv shows and movies with the wife while my kid plays video games online with his friends. I’ve already got my fishing gear ready for the season and rigged some eels last Saturday, with more to do this weekend. Also been going on a lot of walks and hikes with the wife. All this time spent with her made me realize she’s pretty cool and definitely could have done a lot better than me.

Jim in CT 04-02-2020, 07:09 AM hoping to do a few charters with my 13 year-old before the dog days of summer, hope everything is back to normal by then.
nightfighter 04-02-2020, 08:16 AM Doing well here. (I had a year of practice recouping from knee replacement...) Three of us here, third being 85 yo MIL. Well provisioned. Last trip out to store was 0530 this morning. Market Basket already had line of at least 25 waiting to get in, as they instituted maximum number of shoppers in stores today. And the line was not practicing proper distancing... So she went to Shaws, which cost us probably an extra $30.00.
Never had so much packed into fridge and freezer. We are good if we couldn't go again for quite a while. Two weeks from now, the only things we will likely be needing are cleaning wipes and Lysol spray. We are already out of the Lysol I am told...
I have materials at a house I take care of for snowbirds, who are still down south. All exterior trim replacement. Don't have great weather for it, and really, I am not that keen on being seen doing it, given all the idiots out walking in packs... I am a rule follower and think everyone should stay at home. Including construction.
I have gone back to my previous life in the financial world and been trading the market. Been doing better than a days pay, so that has been taking up most of my time. But opportunities are getting thin from my point of view, and I will go to the sidelines after I unwind a gold position.
There is PLENTY for me to do here without leaving the property. I did pick up a new box spring yesterday. Set up a twin bed in my office as an isolation room for me should it come to that
JohnR 04-02-2020, 08:19 AM Doing OK. Working a lot.
Dog Park - my only non essentials excursion from the house is not officially closed.
nightfighter 04-02-2020, 08:27 AM My kids are at their mother's... Sucks but can't risk having them in with MIL. We exchange things, meaning they pick up or I drop off cooked meals or supplies, they need... Glad not to have young kids to manage through this... THAT has to be challenging.
I wake up and remember we are in a pandemic. And then say a prayer for those who wake up knowing they are going to work in the belly of the beast... And the fear they have for their families and themselves... My niece is waiting to get her orders, as she is a newly graduated MD. And the worst is yet to come. I can easily stay at home for them... Won't you?
piemma 04-02-2020, 08:33 AM Nothing has changed in my world except we are not mowing at the golf course. Other than that been workin on a ton of projects at the farm Filled a 15 yd dumpster with crap from 4 garages and the basement.

Can oil go much lower? Been thinking of buying a little Chevron or maybe USO (oil futures) with a timeline of a few years. I heard someone say there's a reasonable chance oil could actually go below zero, but it can't stay there forever...

Oil is back up a bit today, but it’ll definitely be going lower. I think we’re going to see a legit market crash in the next week to 10 days. I’ve been doing well the last couple weeks shorting the market.

Sure is! I waited a day too long to ask this question. I don't know anything about that industry, but I have to think there's opportunity there. I bought USO once a few years ago when oil got down to $35 a barrel, and did very well.
Clammer 04-02-2020, 12:08 PM yet the two gas stations at the corner both went up the last couple of days ?????

rphud 04-05-2020, 07:58 AM got bored, went back to work on an "essential" project for the time being, just have to dodge the RI State Police at the border (taking the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed - tip of the hat to Lowell George)
cheapist I have seen was $1.89 in New London, but I get the impression there are some out there lower than that, good thing since I am in a rental 2500 Ram these days at 15mpg.
nightfighter 04-05-2020, 09:57 AM Since we are all cooking (and getting larger) at home, may I suggest you look at some Premium Brachia Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Croatia brought in by our friend Zeno at adriaticgourmet.com It is really good. I was instructed to reorder, this time the 750ml size as we can go through the 250 ml pretty quickly...
haha, that's great. I think you got next to last 750ML bottle in stock till this winter. It is what it is....first time on unemployment in 32 years. Passing time cooking and getting bigger. ..eh could be a lot worst. The risaa cancelation hurt from the standpoint of seeing a lot of friends
BMEUPSCOTTY 04-05-2020, 10:03 PM Just started it yesterday. Still considered essential, but they just gave us two weeks of free sick leave, dr's note required, but basically carte blanche.. We were waiting as long as we could, but seems like the time is right. We can take some of our own time after that, and can maybe afford a little lwop if we have to. I am as worried about the aftermath as anyone, but if you don't survive first what's the point? Stay safe everyone..

Z, I got he last of the small bottles last month as the bigs were gone. What's left. shoot me an email. I've gone thru 3 of the 4 small bottles I got last time.
MakoMike 04-06-2020, 09:33 AM I'm kinda in isolation in my house. Only time I've been out in a month is to visit a friend who is also in voluntary isolation. My niece has been doing my food shopping for me. I could use some more booze, maybe I'll do the curbside thing next time I go out. Meanwhile, Gina won't let me cross the border to get to my boat! The boatyard is open but I can't get there!
zimmy 04-06-2020, 10:49 AM Meanwhile, Gina won't let me cross the border to get to my boat! The boatyard is open but I can't get there!
Can you get someone from Rhode Island to drag it across the border for you? That might be a work around.
Rmarsh 04-07-2020, 06:26 AM I've been working from home....my son drops in a couple of times a week for some short hikes.
This is the remains of an old girl scout camp.....up in the woods behind my house. Looks like the fireplace is still in use.
I held on to a dead tree while trying to cross a stream......tree broke and i fell into the water. I asked him why he didnt get a picture.
MAKAI 04-07-2020, 11:05 AM I’ve always enjoyed avoiding people 😬
Been laying real low, like snake’s belly in a wagon rut low.
Did manage 2 quick hits at a nearby pond, and found superb fishing. Lot’s of high quality trout. I just hope the ponds can support the amount of fish put in them...we’ll see.
bloocrab 04-08-2020, 06:34 AM I wonder if they're closing the GI bridge to fishing, with squid around the corner, the NY/CT/MA guys are out. That will give RI'ers the entire bridge... even if it's just 5 guys at a time :eek5:, (with the others waiting in their cars for the rotation of course). I'm sure you'll see a police presence there...
Curious to hear how that's going to play out.
Are boat ramps closed in RI? Even those not in State parks?

No. Will still be mobbed.
Got Stripers 04-08-2020, 08:13 AM Even though we had three days of decent weather, I used two to get some sealer on all the carvings I had done and a bench I'm refinishing, but yesterday I finally got back out on the water. It was a beautiful day, the eagles were flying on occasion, the big pickeral were everywhere and with water temperatures finally climbing into the low fifties, a couple nice smallies decided to come shallow to feed. Near the end of the day a pickeral took a hair jig deep and wasn't going to make it, so I gave him a chuck suspecting the eagle sitting on top of a pine a couple hundred yards away might take interest. Once I moved to a distance he felt safe coming down for dinner, I got a good look with the binoculars as he took the pickeral back to the nest.
ps to John: I've asked before and haven't got the answer. I post first uploading this picture and didn't preview and notice on posting the picture is upside down. I go back, open the picture in paint, rotate (even though it looks fine) 90 degrees twice to correct, delete original, upload again even though it's now upside down and it posts upside down. I delete pic, open in paint rotate back to the way it was originally, upload again and it's now perfect. So why does this happen?
scottw 04-08-2020, 08:30 AM that's a nice fish^^^!....got out on the paddle board yesterday...got to ride the current in the outflow, collect some conchs and watch a couple of oyster catcher pairs doing their thing....tog soon hopefully...thankful to have water so close
Got Stripers 04-08-2020, 08:36 AM Here are a couple pieces I finished off in self confinement over the past couple nice days.
ps to John: So I upload all three, preview, all three are on their side. I go to paint, rotate each to mirror that position, even though I know it's wrong, close a save. I open each again in paint, rotate back to vertical and the original, close and save, upload again here and they are upright as they were, am I the only one seeing this?

oh yeah...Ive had 4 haircuts in the last week! LOL First was a little self "trim"...very timidly because I know how badly things can go, the second one was the typical over confident mistake because I got cocky after the first round, third one was begging my husband to at least make sure it was even in the back (somehow two more inches came off but I dare not complain or he'lll never do it again) and the fourth one was a follow up to the third one to blend a few things together :( all in all it actually isn't so bad at the moment!

Me too, I has haven't had hair this long since the 70's... I told Nancy I'll put it into a man bun(just kidding her) she promised me if I did I'd wake up bald in the morning...I believe her.
On the Covid front, still working, wearing mandatory masks with a nurse at the door doing daily temp checks when we arrive..I went to store for the first time since the first week of March, the breaker on the electric stove lost a leg, so I masked up, gloved up and did the deed, left my clothes at the garage door and hit the shower immediately..
Nancy and I bottled 46 bottles of oatmeal stout last night...Saturday, we are planning on brewing a batch of Red Ale.
I moved the lobster pots out from behind the shed, I should get through checking them Sunday..covers coming off the boat this weekend..

About to buzz it all this weekend with a #5 and then his the sides with a #3 (this assumes the #5 leaves more hair than the number 3

I hope the mass golf course association is successful in petitioning Charlie Baker to allow courses to open, because it’s safer then what I see others doing for exercise. Our course had it down, no carts, no club house access, no flag pulling with raised cups.
Pete F. 04-23-2020, 12:52 PM I did see an interesting way to deal with cups on a British you tube show.
They put the cups in upside down, makes them about an inch deep, you can leave the pin in and still pick your ball out without having to pull the pin.
You get the right sound and don't get trained to putt thru the break.
fishgolf 04-23-2020, 06:45 PM We are scheduled to open on May 5th if all goes well. I set up a net in the garage a couple days ago, so that's fun... and boring. And set up a putting station in the basement. Hmmm maybe I could hit a ball in the garage, chip through the door into the living room and bounce it off the couch :hidin:, chip again through the basement door and then putt out...
That would drive my wife completely nuts...
Yeah, you want to have as many safely distanced outdoor events open as possible; I mean people need to keep from going crazy. No reason you can’t have golf if done right. Maybe even open up some other stuff wherever you have open fields with good separation.

piemma 04-24-2020, 06:00 AM We are still closed at Franklin but the grounds crew is working. We have been aerating, mowing everything including fairways and rough.
piemma 04-24-2020, 06:33 AM Been great working at the course with no golfers around. Much easier to get stuff done
Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device
Us also. We diagonally striped 14 fairways Thursday. The downside was it was as cold and windy as any day I have mowed. The upside is there are no golfers so we can really concentrate on keeping the long lines straight.
piemma 04-24-2020, 06:37 AM We are scheduled to open on May 5th if all goes well.
I'd get thrown out of the house
Got Stripers 04-24-2020, 08:01 AM My shoulder and back won’t allow me to bang balls into a net, I just hope my game holds up, I was shooting some low to mid seventies rounds pretty frequently and was hoping for the first par round.

Got Stripers 05-03-2020, 11:40 AM Was on the water by eight and off by 10:30 when the wind really started cranking. Got an early limit of tog luckily and after catching another half dozen I decided to ride the wind and waves back to the ramp.
Rmarsh 05-04-2020, 05:57 AM Went on my first shore fishing trip of the season on Saturday....hiking to a remote spot to be alone.
Weather was great! For the first time in more than a month I was not thinking about C19.....more like how beautiful the ocean, sky, sunset and chain of offshore islands appeared. Casted into a spot where the breaking waves meets an outflow ...and found a couple of small stripers were setting up there. First fish nearly swallowed my sp minnow whole.
Got Stripers 05-08-2020, 06:37 AM So pumped to tee one up at 9:30 and start playing again, it will be interesting to see what a two month layoff has done to the swing.

nightfighter 05-08-2020, 07:54 AM My relocated office/quarantine bedroom is on far end front of house. It is working out well. At this hour we are just about finished with the roll-outta-bed dog walkers and waiting for the made up yoga pants hotties to start parading by...
I am actually back to work so as soon as this building permit app is done I am out of here.
One year appointment with surgeon on Tuesday morning to see how I can get more range of motion and strength in my quad. (I am coming to the realization that something was severed during the replacement surgery.)
Been working every day I wish I was home could hit that punch list before the fishing gets going.

Ya me too Bob. I never sheltered in place. I never stayed home or any of the other BS they have spread. I wear a mask because they won't let me into the stores without it. :rotflmao:
Got Stripers 05-09-2020, 01:11 PM As you may have heard, four F15's flew over most of the Boston and Worcester area hospitals a few days ago. Well aren't I sitting in my kayak on a local pond, as it has some good smallmouth and pickeral fishing and the bonus is watching the eagles that nest on a small island in the middle of this small pond sitting in conservation land. So I'm watching the two trying to decide which of the spawning shad schools to maybe swoop down on and I hear the roar of the F15's approaching from the south. They flew low and directly overhead on route to Boston, pretty cool sight for sure.
I was happy to get out yesterday to finally tee one up after my course opened. It wasn't pretty on the front, but a lot of the rust was gone by the turn and I managed an 81, which I'm happy with after almost a 3 month layoff. Going to bing golf now until the sea bass get into upper BB.
Aren't we all enjoying this beautiful spring day:nailem:
That sure sounds good. This is the time to 'yak all right; yakkers can social distance, and boat groups can't, so this is the time for yakkers to get OTW. Looking forward to my first 'yak striper trip in a couple of weeks with my buddies.

Yo what's up Brother miss ya Buddy glad to hear that you are on this side off the turff.
As you know I work in a hospital and it's f ing crazy in regards to masks and body gear.
Before I go to work I have to check with "Mother " for clearance.
Then I can enter for work.
It's been to long since I have been here and forget how to post pics but Wednesday when ther was a friendly fly by I went to the roof and took picks of the 4 F15 Eagles.

RickBomba 05-10-2020, 07:14 AM Wishing I had a job to go back to when this all ends.
My company let 40% of us go on April 1st. I had done a 14 hour SFDC upgrade for them the day before...wish they would have let me know a little bit before hand.
No furlough, just an 8 minute FU conference call from the CEO.
Whelp, gas at $1.43 a gallon makes it easy to travel to work on the boat.
Gonna be a great year to own a two stroke.
I also nuked my FB, best decision ever!!!
Today I convert to hydraulic steering...our tax dollars at work...FOR ME!

Trust me, that guy wasn’t me. In all reality, I’d suggest that everyone nukes their FB account.
I have lots of friends with lots of different opinions. I really don’t want to hear people’s points or counterpoints. I mean that in the nicest of ways.
Real politicians run for office. The rest of us are worse than back seat drivers. I’d just love it if people just shut up and see how November goes. That should take care of everything.
Getting that damned mechanical steering out of that boat SUUUUCKED!

nightfighter 05-13-2020, 07:43 AM My younger brother is back at play with his one percenter friend... Flew down to Fort Lauderdale Tuesday with his son and another man. Jumped on 57' Gunboat 55 catamaran and headed north within hours of being launched... (ie. no sea trial, just go...) Not how I would have done it, but I don't cling to others' coattails either. He is sending in daily articles to www.SailingAnarchy.com It is like sailing on your living room couch at 15 knots. Interesting, but just hard to relate to for this common man.
From the reality column; Local guy, late fifties, coached my son's Little League team. Put on ventilator and was approved for course of remdesivir…… Sucks
Got Stripers 05-13-2020, 08:42 AM Reality hit home here as well, Peg was tested yesterday, no fever but really run down, headache and sore throat. Had to do some arm twisting to get her to call her primary and after a long phone conversation, they wanted to see her. They needed make and license, arrive, flash head lights and they come out to interview again before getting escorted inside. I don’t know if they were trying to give her hope, but they thought it might be something else, but they tested anyway. No clue where she would have picked up anything as we have been extremely cautious, will be a nerve racking two day wait for results.

afterhours 05-13-2020, 02:32 PM The wife and i are both doing okay, work and health. Wish we could drive the beaches. Minimal supply runs. Highlights are LMB in canoe, Narrow River with flyrod and MGB rides. I do feel like we're blessed in these times.
