View Full Version : Trump* pulls Brady from Super Bowl
Pete F. 04-22-2020, 07:35 PM Luckily he doesn't have that much influence but he did remove or at best let his sycophants remove Dr. Richard Bright the man on top of the vaccine development game in the US government from the team in the middle of a pandemic that needs a vaccine.
Of course Trump* doesn’t know who he is, never heard of him, he's not responsible.
Trump* is fundamentally deeply lazy, a point not emphasized enough in reporting. His threat to the United State government is much more disdain & incompetence than fascism. Trump* basically wants to watch TV, golf, rage-tweet,& collect praise from sycophants. He doesn’t want to work, read, sit thru briefings, etc.
Remember that for all the talk about the virus going away and maybe "returning in the fall," it is here right now.
Nearly 30,000 new cases today and over 2100 Americans have lost their lives to it TODAY.
Send that fool off to cheat at golf, I'll gladly let him be club champion if he get's the #^&#^&#^&#^& out of the way.
Sea Dangles 04-22-2020, 09:38 PM I can’t help but think how many lives he saved by making timely decisions despite political pressure to postpone such actions. Good judgement prevented what the early models had warned as likely catastrophic numbers of dead.
Hopefully, by hiding at home you have escaped this virus which has taken the lives of 40 of your neighbors in the Green mountain state. Be safe and continue to demonstrate your leadership here regarding the 🍔

According to HHS: Brian Harrison is the Chief of Staff at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He previously served as the Deputy Chief of Staff, a position to which he was appointed in January 2018. Mr. Harrison also worked in the office of the Deputy Secretary at HHS during the George W. Bush Administration, and has held positions at multiple other federal agencies, including the Social Security Administration, the Department of Defense, and the Office of the Vice President at the White House. He has worked as a director at an independent public affairs firm, helping oversee their healthcare portfolio, and, prior to returning to government, ran a small business in Texas. He studied economics at Texas A&M University and lives in Arlington, Va., with his wife and three sons.

I watched the full briefing. Part of it was a Bill Bryant (or Brian) a researcher on the coronavirus taskforce, discussing findings on the "emerging results" of the powerful effect of sun light/ultraviolet light and various disinfectants, among others, on the virus. Trump found that very interesting and promising, and verified with Bryant that testing would be done on exposing infected bodies to doses of ultra violet light and inquired and verified about the possibility of injecting various things, like alcohol into the infected body as well.
It was not nonsense. If you find it so, that's you. Many others might like to know what's being researched and discovered. The notion that Trump shouldn't talk about such things because some might do something foolish is a red herring.

It is absolutely ridiculous for our president to even ask that question in a way that first makes him look like an idiot trying to be a medical expert (like every past briefing) and to give the scared or weak minded thoughts about a way to kill the virus which would actually kill them.

The ones who claim Russia stole the election, who claim he didn't help the economy, who attack him for putting kids in the same exact cages that Obama put kids in, the ones who say he didn't do enough in January but won't say a syllable about Pelosi and DiBlasio telling people to go out in public in late February, the ones who say the accusation was enough to disqualilfy Kavanaugh but won't say the same thing about Biden. You guys really see things accurately!
The only one here who never criticizes Trump is Dangles, and he's doing it to yank your chains, and it amazes me how willingly you comply.
Got Stripers, you liberals here are just as wrong about who Trump is, exactly as wrong, as Sean Hannity is - just the mirror image. Hannity ignores the ban and focuses on the good, you all ignore the good and focus on the bad. Don't you see that?

Pete F. 04-24-2020, 09:54 AM Here's the transcript and the last paragraph is Trump*s contribution to the portfolio of misinformation, quackery and jaw-dropping ignorance he has shared with the American people during the coronavirus pandemic.
Bill Bryan: (24:22)
We work closely with the CDC, FDA, HHS, and also our Department of Defense colleagues and many others. Yesterday, I shared the emerging results of our work that we’re doing now with the coronavirus task force and today I would like to share a certain trends that we believe are important. If I may have the first slide please. And while that’s coming up, our most striking observation to date is the powerful effect that solar light appears to have on killing the virus, both surfaces and in the air. We’ve seen a similar effect with both temperature and humidity as well, where increasing the temperature and humidity or both is generally less favorable to the virus. So, let me illustrate with this first slide. If you look to the right, you’ll see that term half-life with a bunch of timestamps on there. First, let me tell you what a half-life is. We don’t measure the virus as far as how long will it live on a surface. We have to measure the decay of the virus in terms of its half-life because we don’t know certain-
Bill Bryan: (25:27)
… That has a bearing on how long the virus is going to be alive and active. So, we measure it in half-life because half-life doesn’t change. So, if you look at an 18 hour half-life, what you’re basically saying is that every 18 hours the life of the virus is cut in half. So, if you start with 1000 particles of the virus, in 18 hours you’re down to 500, and 18 hours after that you’re down to 250 and so on and so forth. That’s important as I explain the rest of the chart. If you look at the first three lines, when you see the word surface, we’re talking about non porous surfaces. Door handles, stainless steel, and if you look at as the temperature increases as the humidity increases with no sun involved, you can see how drastically the half-life goes down on that virus.
Bill Bryan: (26:09)
So, the virus is dying at a much more rapid pace just from exposure to higher temperatures and just from exposure to humidity. If you look at the fourth line, you inject the sunlight into that, you inject UV rays into that, the same effects on line two as 70 to 75 degrees with 80% humidity on the surface and look at line four but now you inject the sun, the half-life goes from six hours to two minutes. That’s how much of an impact UV rays has on the virus. The last two lines are aerosols, what does it do in the air? We have a very unique capability, I was discussing this with the president prior to coming out, he wanted me to convey it to you on how we do this. I believe we’re the only lab in the country that has this capability, but if you can imagine a five gallon Home Depot bucket, we’re able to take a particle, and this was design developed and designed by our folks at the NBAC. We’re able to take a particle of a virus and suspend it in the air inside of this drum and hit it with various temperatures, various humidity levels, multiple different kinds of environmental conditions to include sunlight. And we’re able to measure the decay of that virus while it’s suspended in the air. This is how we do our aerosol testing.
Bill Bryan: (27:22)
We worked with John Hopkins’ applied physics lab and we actually developed a larger drum to actually do more testing and it’s four times the size of that. So, this is the capability that we bring to this effort. So, in summary, within the conditions we’ve tested today, the virus in droplets of saliva survives best in indoors and dry conditions. The virus does not survive as well in droplets of saliva, and that’s important because a lot of testing being done is not necessarily being done, number one, with the COVID-19 virus and number two, in saliva or respiratory fluids. And thirdly, the virus dies the quickest in the presence of direct sunlight under these conditions. And when you look at that chart, look at the aerosol as you breathe it, you put it in a room, 70 to 75 degrees, 20% humidity, low humidity. Half-life is about an hour, but you get outside and it cuts down to a minute and a half. Very significant difference when it gets hit with UV rays. Mr. president, while there are many unknown links in the COVID-19 transmission chain, we believe these trends can support practical decision making to lower the risks associated with the virus. If I could have my next slide and while that comes up, you’ll see a number of some practical applications.
Bill Bryan: (28:34)
For example, increasing the temperature and humidity of potentially contaminated indoor spaces appears to reduce the stability of the virus, and extra care may be warranted for dry environments that do not have exposure to solar light. We’re also testing disinfectants readily available. We’ve tested bleach, we’ve tested isopropyl alcohol on the virus specifically in saliva or in respiratory fluids and I can tell you that bleach will kill the virus in five minutes. Isopropyl alcohol will kill the virus in 30 seconds and that’s with no manipulation, no rubbing. Just bring it on and leaving it go. You rub it and it goes away even faster. We’re also looking at other disinfectants, specifically looking at the COVID-19 virus in saliva. This is not the end of our work. As we continue to characterize this virus and integrate our findings into practical applications to mitigate exposure and transmission. I would like to thank the president, thank the vice president for their ongoing support and leadership to the department and for their work in addressing this pandemic. I would also like to thank the scientists not only in S and T and the NBAC, but to the larger scientific and R and D community. Thank you very much.
Donald Trump: (29:46)
A question that probably some of you are thinking of if you’re totally into that world, which I find to be very interesting. So, supposedly we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light, and I think you said that hasn’t been checked, but you’re going to test it. And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you’re going to test that too. Sounds interesting, right? And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me. So, we’ll see, but the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute. That’s pretty powerful. Steve, please.

Pete F. 04-24-2020, 11:33 AM EVANSTON, WY—Throwing bottles of bleach, ammonia, and Drano into a cart at his local grocery store, area man Troy Mitchell was reportedly stocking up on one of every cleaning product he could find Wednesday in case President Donald Trump announces it is a coronavirus cure. “I got toilet bowl cleaner, carpet cleaner, Swiffer WetJet refills—you name it—just so me and my family will be ready if the president announces one of these things can treat Chinese virus,” said Mitchell, indiscriminately throwing containers of laundry detergent, Scrubbing Bubbles, grout whitener, steel wool, Febreze, Tilex mold and mildew remover, and laptop screen wipes into the cart, the contents of which rang up to $2,513.67 at checkout. “I’m not getting caught without some oven degreaser should Trump say it’s going to save us, so I better go ahead and grab me a bottle. After this, I’m hitting the hardware store to pick up a 5-gallon bucket of roof sealant to make sure I’m prepared in the event that turns out to be what gets rid of the Wuhan. Could just be 10 or 20 squirts of Windex into each nostril. You never know what might work in a pinch!” At press time, neighbors confirmed Mitchell had been found unresponsive on the floor of his bathroom with several empty aerosol cans of Rust-Oleum wax-and-tar-removing solvent by his head.

"And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside or almost a cleaning because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with"
He is wondering if there's a way. Not '"go out and inhale Lysol because I said so", but asking if there's a way for docs to do it safely if it could help.
Spin away. TDS
He normally is so eloquent.
You did exactly what was claimed the Trump defenders would do regardless of what he actually meant.
Why is he now saying he was being sarcastic. If he didn't think it was a good idea or a potential cure he wouldn't have needed to walk it back.
PaulS 04-24-2020, 12:48 PM Where did he recommend it? Where? You conveniently left out where he asked "is there a way"It was in the original transcript which I quoted. What do you think he meant by that? Don't know other than I think he is an idiot. He probably thought there is a potential chance we can all inject some version of Lysol into us. "What do you have to lose?"
God almighty man, take of the TDF tinfoil hat.
You're the one with the TDS trying to spin his original stupid statement.

I certainly never said anything that stupid.
"You did exactly what was claimed the Trump defenders would do "
And you did exactly what I'd expect an irrational Trump hater to do.
"regardless of what he actually meant."
Paul, kindly tell us what you think he was trying to convey, when he used the words "is there a way". Do you understand the difference between saying "there is a way", and saying "is there a way"? One is a declaration, one is a question. A question aimed at a doctor.

Not "spin". I'm pointing out what he actually, literally, said. How can that be spin?
"Is there a way..."
He's asking a question, not stating a conclusion. What do you think he meant by using the phrase "is there a way". He also stated that these chemicals "do a number on the lungs", so he stated it's not currently safe.

You are the one who has lost it trying to defend what he said. You're trying to parse words. It is another example of how stupid he is. No, one would with an ounce of common sense would have said it the way he did and no one would have ever made that statement with a national (world wide?) audience. At the least, they would have pulled a Dr. aside bf the presser to ask them any question. But bc he doesn't read the notes, ask questions or be prepared, you end up with these stupid things said.

Trump should OBVIOUSLY let the experts speak to their expertise, and he should stick to summarizing results and policy. It's totally fair to criticize him for the idiotic and bratty way he inserts himself into these briefings. It's totally unfair, to say he was suggesting we should inject disinfectants. He was asking if there might be a way we could use it safely, and he was clearly asking a doctor. He wasn't making any suggestions that anyone do it. But you guys are physically incapable of resisting the impulse to act as if he said something not even close to what he actually said.
If there's a product, any product, which kills this virus on contact, why the hell wouldn't you ask a doctor if it's in any way possible to use that safely to help people who are dying? Why the hell wouldn't you ask if it's possible?
Asking if it could be possible, isn't anywhere near the same, as saying it works.

Jim in CT 04-24-2020, 02:10 PM If any of your kids wife or relatives made such a suggestion .. I
What did he suggest, exactly? Did he suggest anything? Or did he ask if something was possible?
He asked a doctor, if there's any way that products that kill the virus, could be injected. He specifically said that these products "do a number on the lungs", and he said that's why we need to bring doctors into this.
Every single day, thousands of Americans are dying. If a product is known to kill the virus, what harm does it do, to ask a doctor if there's any way it could be used to help? You think that pursuing seemingly nonsensical ideas have never, in the history of mankind, led to helpful breakthroughs?
What would you have said to the first farmer who asked a doctor, "hey, if I take piles and piles and piles of animal feces, can I spread it in my garden on top of the vegetables i'm trying to grow, is that a good idea"? What would your answer have been? Or your answer to the first person who suggested taking a human heart out of one person, and putting it in another person? I had a gigantic kidney stone a few years ago, that they reduced by bombarding me with ultrasound waves. Who the hell thought of that?
What would you have said to the first oncologist who proposed treating cancer by exposing patients to radiation? How insane did that sound, until we discovered it worked?
We don't know what's possible, until we try.

The other guy said
"We’ve tested bleach, we’ve tested isopropyl alcohol on the virus specifically in saliva or in respiratory fluids and I can tell you that bleach will kill the virus in five minutes. Isopropyl alcohol will kill the virus in 30 seconds and that’s with no manipulation, no rubbing. Just bring it on and leaving it go. You rub it and it goes away even faster"
And the Trump says "....And then I see the disinfectant, where it knocks it out in one minute. And is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside (vs what injection outside?)or almost a cleaning because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that so that you’re going to have to use medical doctors with, but it sounds interesting to me"
So do you think any adult would ask after the subject is bleach and alcohol if there is a way to do "injection inside"? No, one would with an ounce of common sense would have said it the way he did and no one would have ever made that statement with a national (world wide?) audience. You also chose to dodge my question about cancer and radiation, because you know you can't provide a sane answer which doesn't annihilate your attempt to attack Trump here.

right. his wording was bad, and you can argue he should say such things in private. but to say it was in its face, stupid to ask if there’s a posssibility?
The CDC is looking at chlorine as a possible vaccine, that’s a disinfectant that can be poisonous.
The vaccine must be based in a chemical that kills the virus. there are only so many chemicals that we know of, that kill the virus. if oreo cookies killed the virus, we wouldn’t be having this conversation. there are only so many chemicals that kill
the virus, why wouldn’t you look at every single one of them? if they can find a way to make radiation ( of all things!) beneficial, it’s stupid to ask if they can do it with disinfectants? Why?
But to these libs, every single
word that comes out of his mouth, cannot fail to be wrong. it all must be wrong. their brains can’t process the possibility he could
be right.
what will they do if he gets re elected?

To be honest with you, I've had enough of insults. So if instead of saying I'm wrong, could you maybe give a specific example? I am as capable as ANYONE of being wrong, and there have been times on this board where you showed me I was wrong, and you did so with support, and I agreed with you that I was wrong. But saying I'm wrong, or that I can't read, is a tad vague as I'm sure you'd agree. So if you can forgo the vague charges of being illiterate and tell me exactly what I got wrong, I will also try to raise the bar here. Any chance we can do that?
the link I posted, says the CDC is looking at the use of chlorine dioxide. I assume that chlorine dioxide includes chlorine (I could be wrong as I hated chemistry), but if it does, chlorine is also a disinfectant that can be lethal (or are you saying that statement is wrong?)

Pete F. 04-24-2020, 09:16 PM The utter asininity of Trump*s briefings this week are testament to the blindingly obvious reality that there is no proverbial bottom floor when it comes the abject stupidity and delusion that flows from the Presidential podium like a toxic fog over the country. Trump* is a fool.
My heart goes out to this woman.
Dr. Birx defends the President: When he gets new information, he likes to talk that through out loud and really have that dialogue and so that’s what dialogue he was having. I think he just saw the information at the time immediately.. and he was still digesting that information.
Unless you are claiming he was trolling the libs or reporters, in which case the prank required Trump to maintain a completely deadpan demeanor, and to get Birx’s cooperation, and to let the untruth go uncorrected for about 18 hours before finally revealing the gag.
Fit that into your narrative.................or his for that matter.
Oh, I forgot this can’t be correct because Trump is a stable genius, so he can’t possibly become confused. He is a god.

OMG Jim going back to his economy card, that’s not predictable much haha. First Trump inherited a really strong and expanding economy and yes he took moves to not kill it and guess who’s backs paid for that then and are paying for it big time now. Your version of great things doesn’t match mine and since I’ve yet to see a civil debate on this forum before it goes to childish insults and stupid arguments, I will leave it at that.

Hey Jim, you just don't get how unfairly good things are distributed in this journey we call life. I mean, how fair is it that exercise and a good diet benefits those who work on being healthy more than those who just assume that all will be well until it isn't.

Jim in CT 04-26-2020, 05:13 PM Well the counter question would be is the system wrong, when the rich continue to get richer and those in the middle or the pour bastards changing the sheets in their hotels, cutting their grass and watching their kids barely make a living wage?
it’s not the system, it’s just math. what would you do? make it illegal to keep working or investing after one attains a certain net worth? you’d support that? think, man. Nobody is better off if the wealthy didn’t exist.
if you say we need to improve our safety net for those at the bottom, i agree. but there’s no way to keep the rich from getting richer in a booming economy. Basic arithmetic guarantees that will happen. for sure its not trumps fault. there’s no conceivable way to stop it, and no conceivable reason to try.

Well, actually, not all the rich get richer. Many go bankrupt or lose wealth. Maybe the rich who don't keep up with the other rich should complain that the system is not fair. Many are satisfied with "barely" making a living wage. It keeps them living and able to have sex, watch TV, enjoy meals, get a good nights sleep . . . and, if they catch a spark of an idea, do better.
I understand that there is this ideal that everybody should have an abundance of all that is life giving and joy making. But if the reality is that that is not realistic, how does one calculate on how much and in what way all the goods will be distributed.
What "system" makes it possible for everybody in it to be satisfied? There are some, like the Amish. And there are religious communities who find equal satisfaction in the promises of their faith. I may be wrong, but I doubt those kind of systems would satisfy everyone. Maybe there is not one "ideal" system. Maybe we should be free to join or create one that satisfies us. Or maybe the closest to the ideal would be one in which everyone can find their own personal happiness which would depend on many different things, not just the differences in paychecks.

You're usually a lot more lucid than this. This is wdmso territory in lacking clarity. Are you saying that I claimed that the Amish were a happy low income family not needing their part of the pie. Did I mention any families not needing their part of the pie? Did I specify any part of any pie? Are you referring to my "Many are satisfied with "barely" making a living wage. It keeps them living and able to have sex, watch TV, enjoy meals, get a good nights sleep . . . and, if they catch a spark of an idea, do better"? Are you referring to the rich who don't keep up with the richer rich?
Or something or someone entirely different?

Yes, well my lack of clarity may have given you the impression that I thought all Amish were "happy." I did not refer to individual Amish, nor to happiness (though being satisfied is a step in that direction). I was referring to the Amish prescribed societal "system" since you were interested in the "system" being responsible for some sort of equitable happiness or satisfaction. Not that, I admit, I am an expert on the Amish system, or even adequately informed about it. My uneducated assumption is that Amish society is a communitarian one in which everyone contributes to the wealth of the community and all receive in some equity the bounties of that wealth. I mentioned the Amish not as a specific model, but a generic type of communitarian society.
And, of course, I did mention that there is probably no system that will be devoid of "miscreants," those who don't perfectly follow the precepts of their system, but who use it for "unfair" advantage in gaining personal pleasure or wealth. If you're correct, Amish society is a total fraud in which all or most of the women are raped, incest is the pre-eminent norm and men are predominantly rapists and stealers of the supposedly common wealth. If that is true, I withdraw the Amish as any sort of model, although I believe that the prescribed system is not practiced by those you describe.
But, again, that will apply to any "system." It can only function as prescribed if its citizens are faithful to it. And if you're searching for or desiring a system without miscreants, I think you're looking for something impossible. Except, as I mentioned, something like that described in Huxley's Brave New World in which fetuses are injected with a chemical which physically implants the proper disposition to be a worker, or manager, or whatever.
There is no "system" created by humans, populated and run by humans which will give you your desired equitable distribution of wealth. Simply put, humans are not insects. Nor birds of any sort. Nor mammalian animals imprinted with irrevocable patterns of herd behavior. We have an endless potential for diversity in the human genome, the best we can do is probably teach each other to respect humanity as something more than living meat and the advantage of caring for each other rather than killing or oppressing each other. But removing the competitive, inquisitive, drive to personally improve commensurate to ones ability to do so is a form of killing and oppressing that which makes us human.
Pete F. 04-26-2020, 10:39 PM 54,000 dead Americans and the president is spending the day publicly feeling sorry for himself. What the hell happened to this country?
The people that know me and know the history of our Country say that I am the hardest working President in history. I don’t know about that, but I am a hard worker and have probably gotten more done in the first 3 1/2 years than any President in history. The Fake News hates it!
I work from early in the morning until late at night, haven’t left the White House in many months (except to launch Hospital Ship Comfort) in order to take care of Trade Deals, Military Rebuilding etc., and then I read a phony story in the failing @nytimes about my work....
...schedule and eating habits, written by a third rate reporter who knows nothing about me. I will often be in the Oval Office late into the night & read & see that I am angrily eating a hamburger & Diet Coke in my bedroom. People with me are always stunned. Anything to demean!
.@FoxNews just doesn’t get what’s happening! They are being fed Democrat talking points, and they play them without hesitation or research. They forgot that Fake News @CNN & MSDNC wouldn’t let @FoxNews participate, even a little bit, in the poor ratings Democrat Debates.....
....Even the Radical Left Do Nothing Democrats laughed at the Fox suggestion. No respect for the people running @FoxNews. But Fox keeps on plugging to try and become politically correct. They put RINO Paul Ryan on their Board. They hire “debate questions to Crooked Hillary”....
...fraud @donnabrazile (and others who are even worse). Chris Wallace is nastier to Republicans than even Deface the Nation or Sleepy Eyes. The people who are watching @FoxNews, in record numbers (thank you President Trump), are angry. They want an alternative now. So do I!
Reports that H.H.S. Secretary @AlexAzar is going to be “fired” by me are Fake News. The Lamestream Media knows this, but they are desperate to create the perception of chaos & havoc in the minds of the public. They never even called to ask. Alex is doing an excellent job!

Memorialize? I'm sorry, when was the last time we memorialized people who died of the flu, or cancer, or any other natural cause?
Pete F. 04-27-2020, 09:52 AM Morons, now it's just the flu? Gonna have a pox party?
Social distancing works, earlier social distancing is hundreds of times better.
70 days of delay cost us thousands of lives, millions of jobs and trillions of dollars.
That's billions and billions for Trumplicans.
Death, disease and economic pain are real. They can't be spun.
No, social distancing didn't start in January but it certainly could have started weeks earlier and been supported rather than downplayed.
What did the Stable Genius do in the time between late January and early March. Besides Rallies, Golf and repeating Chinese propaganda?
January 20, 2020: The United States and South Korea each announce their first case of COVID-19 on the same day.
The CDC confirms the first case of COVID-19 in the United States in Washington State.
South Korea’s National IHR Focal Point (NFP) reports its country’s first case of novel coronavirus on the same day. South Korea quickly proceeds to mobilize vast resources for diagnostic testing, enlisting the private sector for test development, including drive-through screening centers, and quarantines.
The same day: President Xi Jinping publicly announces for the first time that the coronavirus outbreak “must be taken seriously” and that the country must impose all possible measures to contain the virus. Chinese officials also confirm for the first time that the new coronavirus is transmissible via human-to-human contact.
Maybe he told his good friend Donald not to worry about it.
Reports later emerge that by this date nearly 3000 Chinese citizens were already infected by the coronavirus.
March 13, 2020: President Trump declares a national emergency and promises a new website to link Americans to testing sites.
President Trump* declares that the coronavirus pandemic is a national emergency. He also states: “I don’t take responsibility at all,” in response to a question about the lack of available tests.
Because in Trump*s empty mind, the states are responsible but absolute power lies with him.
Stop telling me what the Stable Genius really meant to say or how to interpret him. If he can’t speak for himself then he shouldn’t speak for a nation.

Best way to memorialize the victims is to teach China a lesson that they won't forget, one severe enough to make sure they know not to do this again (if they were as negligent as it appears).

Insist all you want, but if the organization as a whole owes over a trillion dollars to the organization it is bargaining with, the debtor nation is in a whole lot of hurt, regardless of who its leader is and how much that leader owes. China can call in payment for the debt in either case. Trump has way more in assets than it owes China. He can sell enough to pay his debt which is due in a couple of years, still have enough left to be super wealthy and continue to make profits from the businesses his family owns, as well as having a very lucrative pension from the US government. The US has to borrow to pay debt, unless its willing to sell the federal land that it owns--which probably would not happen. It would have to "print" that money causing it to be worth less as well as how much less it's value is already losing due to the trillions borrowed to float us through the pandemic.
What the leader can do in a case where the debtor country has been far more economically damaged by its creditor than the amount it owes to it, is relinquish its debt to that creditor as partial payment for the damage that creditor has caused. And, it can feasibly relinquish the debt that its citizens owe to that creditor to make up for the balance owed to itself.
China is in a bad way regarding the damage it's caused by carelessly or deliberately letting the virus spread outside its borders. I would applaud Trump if he demanded reparations from China.
Pete F. 04-27-2020, 01:42 PM Trump* will just file bankruptcy like he has previously, though he is very adept at printing money and has now gained control of the Fed.

No, I am not a debt don't matter guy. Not sure how you can know what I am if you don't read my posts or watch my videos. I am a Congress-is-responsible-for-the-debt guy. But more so, I'm a Federal-Government-is-constitutionally-limited guy.
There is no possibility that Congress will eliminate the national debt, nor keep it within reason, so long as Progressive policies, regulations, and programs remain in place, and are continuously added to. And I don't attach Progressivism only to Democrats. Republicans have created their own share of Progressive policy. The first Progressive President was a Republican. And there have followed others who were mostly or partially (enough to do the damage) Progressive. And just as bad, if not worse, SCOTUS has "interpreted" the Constitution out of its limited Federal Government shell and not held in check, as is its duty, the unconstitutional Progressivism which has been the driving force behind unhampered government spending.
I don't think you want to discuss any of that. From a lot of your writing, it is apparent that you favor a barely limited, if at all, central government to control much of the core civil functions including health care, welfare, the economy, and control most of all the essential individual responsibilities which can affect those broader issues, which ultimately can be Progressively interpreted to encompass every aspect of our lives.
At any rate, the steadily and constantly expanding needs of the people that progressives manufacture every election cycle, and which they claim the Federal Government must provide, regulate, and pay for, as well as the miraculous expansion of the current ones which never, somehow, actually ever get fixed but constantly, somehow, get worse, all require more programs, regulations, and to be paid for.
Now, a careful reading of the Constitution would reveal that it does not delegate any actual power to the Federal Government to create these programs. And if the Constitution were followed, they wouldn't do so and would not have done so. Which would mean that the major part of the Federal government spending would be, and would have been, eliminated. Which would mean that the debt would be minimal, if at all.
I think that it's the Progressive, socialistic, Marxist, Communist (they are varying degrees of the same thing) approach to governing that is the type which is not concerned with the notion of government debt. That approach does not limit how much money the government owns. It creates as much as it needs. It believes that, in reality, it controls (or should) pretty much everything and that it owns the money it prints and much (if not ultimately most) of what individuals think is theirs, ergo all transactions are under its sanctions, so the money it borrows is its own and the debt is to itself--the central banks being part of the scheme and profiting mightily. And if borrowed from another country, it can pay it back in the same way it pays itself ("borrow it" from itself). It never really even pays itself since, in our case, it never pays down the principle, just pays what interest is owed per month. And who gets to keep those interest payments, why the central banks, the Federal Reserve, who are part of the scheme.
We are assured, by the currently still expanding Progressive governance, that, no, the government truly is limited, is within constitutional bounds. And most want to believe that and are willingly persuaded by "reports" of Court opinions and decisions that they are come by proper constitutional "interpretation." Honest study and honest scholars know that is not true. But better, given where we have come (and where they want to take us), to let the fiction be "true."
The actual, true, trajectory is fully unlimited government power. And we're going to get there either by the ultimate financial crisis in which the government will have to grab total power in order to prevent catastrophe, or by the actual catastrophe which will have, per force, the same resolution. Creeping unsustainable debt may be the ultimate, peaceful, way to unlimited government.
That is, so long as there is not a revolution. Successful gun control can help prevent that. And an ever evolving socialization process in which each new generation accepts the government it has as how it should be will make the transition easier. And that evolution has already developed to the point where the existing younger generations no longer even have an attachment to the founding constitutional system of government. And they are losing any faith or belief in free market capitalism. Socialism has lost its stigma for them. It is even preferred by more and more of them. And, after all, if the Federal government didn't create and pay for all those presumably necessary programs, what would happen to the people. The states surely could not provide them. (Yeah they and their people, if free to do so, could provide better for themselves what is suited to their needs and in differing ways which create workable models or models to avoid.)
What does that all portend for the notion of an unsustainable national debt? I don't think the new generations, if this continues, will care about such a thing. They didn't create it. They won't want to squander what ever resources they have left to pay them off. They will be perfectly satisfied that the debt will simply be erased, and that the musty old institutions that are owed the money can just fold up shop and join them in the new world of benevolent government which will provide the structure for what society needs to be done and employ everyone, all paid relatively equally by government fiat money if money will still be used, in that endeavor.
Pete F. 04-27-2020, 05:48 PM You think Trump*, the man with “absolute power”, who thinks he can decide when and how states can use the powers not assigned to any branch of the federal government, has a clue what the Constitution says?

I'm guessing that in the case of a national emergency which obviously spread beyond the borders of the several states, he might have some overriding authority. Whether he was right or wrong about it, he did fall back on the federated solution and left it up to the states with guidelines. I'm sure he has "some" clue what the Constitution says. Maybe not a lot. Maybe a lot. I don't know. Apparently you think you do. He does have legal advisers to correct him if necessary. Didn't amount to a crisis or any problem other than opportunity to try to bash him. You do seem to think it's a big deal.
I think you’re on the right track but that big money and corporations have taken over the political process in the last 50 years, taking control of everything that is required and profitable while leaving the loss leaders to government.
I think there is a historical process beginning in the Progressive era in which the Federal Government began reigning in the power of big business, the so-called Robber Barons, resulting in a growing regulatory environment and Supreme Court cases that started to give the Fed growing bits of power.
That mushroomed into the FDR administration's full assault on private enterprise and the creation of a large and continuously growing, since then, administrative state which was the first truly massive step in abandoning the constitutional order and replacing it with ideologically Progressive government.
Johnson's Great Society was the next big leap in that direction. And the Clinton and Obama Admins. took it to the edge of complete transformation.
The growing national regulatory state made it progressively more difficult for smaller businesses to function and compete with larger ones so there was an expanding consolidation of many smaller entities, manufacturers (including auto), insurance companies, banks, medical hospitals, grocery store chains, franchised restaurant chains, etc., into bigger nationwide rather than local ones. Wage regulations, workers rights, workplace safety, and a plethora of other government regulations made it harder and harder to stay small and far easier to corporatize into larger entities.
I think corporatization is more a defense against a powerful centralized government, which is less and less reigned in by constitutional limitations, than it is a taking control of that government.
As well, it is easier, more advantageous, for the Central Government to regulate and keep track of fewer, larger, more cooperative corporations, than many thousands of smaller independent ones. It is also easier to get big campaign contributions. It's a symbiotic relationship between big government and big business.
When companies like Walmart or Microsoft were too independent thinking in their practices, big gov made some threats and a more comfortable relationship was made. Government regulatory power has been an advantage for large corporations over smaller business, but also has been a bit of a Damocles Sword as well.
The relationship is somewhat fascistic. Those who think that Progressive government will save them from fascism have not been paying attention.
