Got Stripers 07-23-2020, 06:59 AM As if we don’t need more evidence Trump has purposely directed events and stays in order to promote and enable family businesses to profit, now it appears likely he attempted to use his position to get the The Open golf tourney moved to his golf course. Only his minions can’t see this is all personal to him and his family, to the point he is willing to discuss moving a golf tournament ahead of far more pressing EU and obvious global issues.

OK, thanks. The reason I asked if you were not a minion is because you said "Minions response is always predictable." And, it seems to me, I admit that I am biased and may be wrong, but it seems to me that your responses are predictable.
As for Trump doing something unconstitutional, he certainly needs to to be called out on it if he is. I have complete confidence that the Dems and Never Trumpers or Anti-Trumpers will do so and have him removed if they can prove the charge.
Regardless of that outcome, I will still vote Republican in 2020, not because the Repubs are all a bunch of good guys (I have no illusions about their innocence--they have been complicit in a lot, if not most, of the crap that has been laid on our constitutional system), but, simply because they are not, at this time, as dangerous to our constitutional system as the Dems have become. And the Dems show no signs of any mea culpa--quite the contrary, they are becoming more openly radical leftist.
Got Stripers 07-23-2020, 10:47 AM So we agree on one thing, we are both voting based on a perceived danger, I happen to believe another term of Trump will do irreparable harm to this country. I don't think that one man, opposed by so many from all sides, has the power to do the type of harm you envision.
Replacing our constitutional system of government with a Progressive regulatory state would, obviously, not only harm our system, it would eradicate it. One man could not do that. But electing a party to total federal power (dragging along a lot of State legislators and executives on its coattails) that basically promises to accomplish that transformation, will give it the power to make its promise come true.

Pete F. 07-31-2020, 03:56 AM When you finally go far enough to get a founder of the Federalist Society to call for your impeachment
But I am frankly appalled by the president’s recent tweet seeking to postpone the November election. Until recently, I had taken as political hyperbole the Democrats’ assertion that President Trump is a fascist. But this latest tweet is fascistic and is itself grounds for the president’s immediate impeachment again by the House of Representatives and his removal from office by the Senate.
President Trump needs to be told by every Republican in Congress that he cannot postpone the federal election. Doing so would be illegal, unconstitutional and without precedent in American history. Anyone who says otherwise should never be elected to Congress again.

Which is true. There was no action nor an attempt at action to postpone the election. It is not a crime or impeachable offense to ask, especially when there is evidence that there are kinks in the postal service that could taint the voting. Even more so during the backup of mailing because of the Covid. I've had problems getting mail that I'm waiting for, which comes way later than usual. I had a backup on my mailed in insurance premium payment which finally arrived after several calls. There's this short video of a simulated batch of mailed votes:

It’s been well documented there is an extremely low percentage of voter fraud and taking money from the postal service, closing polling locations and even hinting (with no authority) at moving the election are all moves he sees as helping him. Let’s also be realistic, while I think he isn’t the brightest bulb on the tree, moving the election closer to a point the economy somewhat rebounds or a virus is actually available; even he knows would gain him votes.

Quite a convoluted master plan created by an incompetent dunce. Makes perfect sense.
There's always the rub between Trump being stupid and his creating deviously brilliant plans. Now its some possible monkey wrench thrown into the postal delivery system.
Trump's man in charge was put there in April. The postal system has had delivery problems for decades, which has been getting worse for decades.
At any rate, it is admitted that, however it happened, there is a problem that could mess with massive voting by mail--which we have been told is nonsense--everyone voting by mail is perfectly fine--and Trump and his ilk are ignorant dummies for saying otherwise.
We were told that Trump was wrong and stupid for saying that his campaign was spied on. But it turns out Trump was right.
We were told that the dossier was legitimate and mostly true. But it is totally a bunch of crap meant to illegally help to get a FISA warrant.
We were told there were valid reasons to get a FISA warrant to surveil Carter page. That was false, and Page was actually working with the CIA not the Russians.
We were told that Flynn had illegal conversations with Russians. It turns out that the FBI knew his conversations were legal and pursued him anyway.
We were told a lot of crap that was not true, but that we were stupid conspiracists for not believing it.
And we will continue to be gaslighted while claiming that Trump is gaslighting us.
Pete F. 07-31-2020, 01:45 PM Here’s how Tweety’s gaslighting works, same way it did with his phone call, Mueller and his birther game.
It’s less than 100 days to Election Day, it’ll be easy to keep track
1) Stake a claim: In this case, President Trump has decided to cast doubt on the 2020 election by alleging, without any evidence, that mail-in ballots that have increased in popularity because of the coronavirus are fraudulent, illegal, and will cost him the election.
2) Advance and deny: Trump does this when he alludes to, without any specifics, what “other people are saying” or his allies suggest he’s only “asking questions” about subjects no responsible person would push into the public discussion. He fulfilled this step when he “asked the question” sure to grab attention this morning: “Delay the Election until people can properly, securely and safely vote???”
3) Create suspense: You can bet that Trump will soon launch an “investigation”—whether through the Department of Justice, an allied media source, or some state’s friendly Republican secretary of state—regarding mail-in ballots to cast doubt on the process further. Doing so is designed to buy time for Trump also to sow chaos and trap his political enemies into making mistakes he can exploit. Typically, the said investigation’s findings never come, although Trump likes to promise they will be public in “two weeks.”
4) Discredit opponents: While everyone awaits the sham investigation’s findings, Trump will find some targets to zero in on and instigate fights. When it comes to the election, this could be as high-profile as the Democratic ticket, or as obscure as county elections board members.
5) Claim victory: No matter the outcome of the election, Trump will claim that it was “rigged,” as he did the 2016 election that he won. If Trump wins this time around, he’ll say he should have won by more significant margins. If he loses, he will blame the mail-in ballots he’s been railing against since last spring.

1) Stake a claim: In this case, President Trump has decided to cast doubt on the 2020 election by alleging, without any evidence, that mail-in ballots that have increased in popularity because of the coronavirus are fraudulent, illegal, and will cost him the election.
All kinds of claims were staked about Trump.
He is stupid. He is incompetent. He is Putin's puppet. He colluded with Russia. He is not a Republican. He is a fascist. He is a Nazi. He is a racist. He is a homophobe. He is a misogynist. He was a business failure. He will start wars. Blah, blah . . .
You have staked or regurgitated most of those claims. You are staking a claim in this post.
"What other people say" has been a trick used against Trump for four years. Attention grabbing headlines against Trump have been concocted on an almost daily basis for four years.
Trump has had numerous investigations launched against him for four years. And the promised results have yet to arrive.
4) Discredit opponents: While everyone awaits the sham investigation’s findings, Trump will find some targets to zero in on and instigate fights. When it comes to the election, this could be as high-profile as the Democratic ticket, or as obscure as county elections board members.
Discrediting Trump and his supporters has been standard procedure for four years along with the phony investigations

The ballots have to be approved with a signature match or they're tossed. I think about 5 states do primarily mail in ballots with no issues.
I think the bigger concern is Trump brazenly trying to undermine a fair election, break the USPS and generally cause chaos. Are they any institutions he won't try and sacrifice for his own interests?

The U.S. postal system has needed extra funding at least ever since it became unionized. And for most personal and even much of people's official and financial correspondence, it has greatly been replaced by the internet. Computer mailing would probably be more reliable than postal mail.

Not since unionization as much as since a Republican led congress insisted they hold ridiculously high pension reserves.
Regardless it's an unprecedented, vile, shameless and brazen politicization of our system.
Got Stripers 08-13-2020, 03:38 PM It’s Trump looking for a conspiracy where one doesn’t exist, so he is turning the postal service into part of his campaign team. Trump never hides his intent, he basically admitted he is killing the funding to stop the mail in voting.

Yeah, quite a bit since unionization, though not only because of that. The price of government beyond its normal idiotic and unsustainable spending, has incrementally grown by periodic union demands in wages and benefits--especially the benefits and generous pension arrangements and low ages possible for retirement.
As for the idea that the high pension reserves is the cause, this Forbes article effectively explains it differently: https://www.forbes.com/sites/ebauer/2020/04/01/does-the-post-office-need-a-pension-bail-out/#2281215d335f

Their growth is parallel because it requires the creation of strong enough economies generated by profitable businesses that can afford to hire the number of workers and pay them the wages needed to sustain and grow the power of a union. The businesses come first. The unions follow.
It isn't as if unions were formed in order to create businesses. There was a middle class without unions. There are middle class jobs that don't have union employees. A free market can produce a middle class without unions. But unions need a market to exist in which they can usefully unionize.
The notion that it was the unions that created the middle class is backwards. And I didn't say that unions are evil. Private sector unions are viable because the relation is symbiotic. The union needs the business to be successful, so, if it is reasonable, it will negotiate win/win contracts. Public sector unions aren't as hampered by the need of their government agency to be profitable. Public sector unions are often one of the reasons why contracts, especially legacy costs, are not sustainable without the government raising taxes or going further into debt.

Got Stripers 08-14-2020, 03:37 PM The Covid virus has taken focus away from something far more troubling to future generations, but when you don’t believe in science to begin with, it’s all just white noise. Here is a smart guy’s prediction, but hey vote for a science denier if you don’t care about your grandkids future.
Bill Gates summarized the current research this way: “By 2060, climate change could be just as deadly as COVID-19, and by 2100 it could be five times as deadly.” And unlike this pandemic, it would not abate and could not even be stalled, except by entirely zeroing out every ounce of carbon being produced now — 37 gigatons annually — by the planet we have transformed into an emissions factory, and then waiting, at least decades and perhaps centuries, for the climate to stabilize.

Trump told supporters who'd dialed into a telephone rally. "You can request absentee ballots right now. Absentee ballots are great."
Trump encouraged supporters to "watch that other people aren't cheating, because that's what they're looking to do."
At the same time, he told his audience: "Absentee voting is a secure process. It's initiated by the voter -- you request it -- and every voter is verified. Every vote is verified. It's the exact opposite of Democrats' voter fraud scheme. They want to mail ballots to every eligible voter all over the state."
PS universal voting is another Trump Lie like open border, attacks on Christians
WOW Scott which is it good or bad encouraging people to get a mail in ballot but watch your neighbors they might be cheating because their Democrats?
Donald Trump keeps blasting 'universal' mail voting. But few states are planning that in November
But only nine states and the District of Columbia so far plan to hold universal mail-in elections

As I said, you're a better person the I. I do have a much larger than average "circle" of aquaintances that are not necessarily "friends," but have known them well enough to have witnessed their family dynamics.
I does give me a broad insight into how varied and often quixotic human nature can be, and, even so, how wrong it can be to quickly dismiss flawed humans as being dysfunctional, or incompetent because of quirks and flaws in their personalities, or in their circle of friends and family. Some of the quirkiest, flawed, even errant, people I've met have been among the most brilliant in intellect and competent in their special fields or endeavors.

You keep putting words in mouths that didn't speak them. It's an essential propaganda trick. "Republican National Committee members voted to extend the party's 2016 platform through 2024."
The GOP does have a political platform.

G.O.P. Platform, Rolled Over From 2016, Condemns the ‘Current President’
To capture the spirit of a convention held by a party now fully prostrate before its leader, Trump should insist on speaking each night from a replica of the balcony of the Palazzo Venezia.

So now that we've established that you told yet another lie, and the Repubs do have a platform, and after ragging on the G.O.P. for being a cult, you note something in it that you like. Something that belies your accusation that it "is about fealty to and adulation of a single person. No ideas or beliefs other than his. No accountability other than to him". Perhaps you should read the platform that you said doesn't exist, and you might be surprised to find traditional Republican stuff in it instead of your portrayal of the party losing its identity other than being some personification of Trump

Or from the podium at the Reichstag. You do have these visions of Trump as Hitler or Mussollini. Actually, he prefers hugging the American flag.

Fixed it for you
This reality TV President is a barking carnival clown
What other incumbent has ever run on "crime is up since I got elected, re-elect me because I say the other guy will make it worse"?

Kimberly Guilfoyle says she is "a first generation American" pointing to her mother, "a special education teacher from Aguadilla, Puerto Rico," and her father, "also an immigrant," so it's worth pointing out that Puerto Rico is a US Territory and its resident are US Citizens.
Nikki Haley says America is not racist and then describes how she experienced racism herself
The McCloskeys effectively and credibly conveyed the GOP’s message that if Joe Biden is elected, a day may come when you’re not allowed to shoot a Negro from your porch.

Pete F. 08-25-2020, 07:31 AM Why isn’t the GOP producing a new platform for its 2020 convention?
Because a platform means you stand for something.

Technically Puerto Rico’s citizens are citizens of the United States not its residents
I figured it’s worth pointing that out

In the middle of a pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, America’s billionaires have made a fortune:
Bezos: +$76B
Musk: +$43B
Zuckerberg: +$42B
Balmer: +$18B
Ellison: +$12B
Life is great, don’t worry it will trickle down.

7 out of 14 are named Trump or Kimberly Guilfoyle, JR girlfriend Her first husband was the Democratic politician Gavin Newsom,
Or Ms. McCloskey said that Democrats wanted to “abolish the suburbs altogether by ending single-family home zoning,”
That's funny you cant find.a house like theirs in. The suburbs as if their middle class people
SO under Trumps (AKA Joker) leadership they have turned America into Gotham city .
But if you elect Biden their coming for you. warning of a “vengeful mob” that would lay waste to suburban communities and turn quiet neighborhoods into war zones.
Sound like ever authoritarian government that ever existed , blame the other side for the problems you created

On Monday the media reporter Yashar Ali cited unnamed sources in reporting that Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, a former friend and adviser, “taped the first lady” and plans to share the remarks in her book.
They include “harsh comments about Ivanka Trump, the president’s elder daughter and a senior adviser”, Ali wrote.
