View Full Version : WTB - abu 7000c3, older maroon
tlapinski 09-09-2003, 05:37 AM i am looking for an older abu 7000 c3 with maroon sideplates. i have an almost brand new abu 7500c3 in chrome with box and all original paperwork that i might be willing to trade for the 7000 if it is in comporable condition, or i will pay cash. i am only looking for a maroon reel. please let me know if you have one, or know where i can find one. thanks.
mikecc 09-09-2003, 05:12 PM Before you trade I thought you should know there is a new 7000 reel for next year called the 7000CCS it is the same as the current 7000C-3 but the side plates are Matt Maroon finish costs less also.
tlapinski 09-11-2003, 09:29 AM thanks, mike. have any pics been posted anywhere? i looked around a little, but couldn't find any.
mikecc 09-12-2003, 07:46 PM there are no pictures as of yet because the public is not supose to know about them yet:D ;)
StriperFreak 09-13-2003, 05:22 PM hey mike , I was checking 7000 w/ the maroon it has disc's instead ball berings yes it is less$$ but any input
thank's LINK
ps: I would be using it for drifting & trolling:confused:
tlapinski 09-14-2003, 07:30 AM i am pretty sure you were looking at the red one, not the maroon one. the maroon ones were made in the mid '90's or so, and were C3 versions. the one you saw was probably just a 7000, with busingins as opposed to bearings.
Stewie 09-14-2003, 08:32 AM If you buy a 7000 with bushings from a good tackle shop, they can ball bearings in it for a few bucks. The ones from a Calcutta 700 also fit and may be higher quality....Seeya on the beach ,longshot
Christian 09-14-2003, 11:43 AM bearings, better casting,
bushings not as good as bearings.
bushings for drifting, trolling would be good i think. what is it a 50dollar diff?
Canalratt1 09-14-2003, 11:50 AM The ones with the bushings will last forever they do not have to be replaced very often and a great boat reel. Wallie World has these reels sometimes for less than 100$
StripinLine 09-14-2003, 01:04 PM I have two of these older 7000's.
I was going to switch out the bushing for barings and found out the spool spindel will not fit into the new barings, and was going to just use them as boat reels.
I findout now that the barings for the 7500 fit into the7000 and might fit the 7000 spool spindel. I am going to research this. If anyone tries this let me know how it works out....

The new Maroon that they sell is exclusive to Wal Mart it currently only has bushings.
The New 2004 we will have it with 3 Bearings.
marky1 11-10-2003, 12:59 AM Walmart has them,I just bought one last Thurs. -$99.96
JohnR 11-10-2003, 07:43 AM I tried on of those Walmart cranky 7000 reels and it did not seem as nice as even the old bushing 7000C reels. These WallyWorld 7000s are the cheapest of the new China reels. Was not impressed.
Marky - welcome to S-B...
Tobiwan, I have an older 7000C (bushing model) that I picked up and installed the stock bearings on... Why are you intereested in the trade :) . PM me if you want.
PS - WTH is the difference between a 7000 & 7500 anyway?
marky1 11-10-2003, 09:35 AM Now that I have the reel , the next thing I will be getting are the "Abec7" ball bearings," Rocket Fuel" oil, This should make a difference in casting distance.
SeaWolf 11-10-2003, 01:07 PM 7500's have faster gears. 5.3:1. 7000's have 4.1:1 gears. the spool is also different between the 2 gear version to compensate for the different sized pinion gear. if it's a big game series, it has brass sideplates. standard ones have annodized aluminum plates.
Bubblehead 11-11-2003, 12:54 AM Yeah I saw a red one over the week-end at Walmart on a clearence rack for $69.00. Poor kid at the counter got all flustered when I asked for some help and then he ended up only charging me $6.00 for some awesome "Winchester" thermals he rang in without using the SKU. I didn't realize it until I got home so I have decided to keep them instead of being toatlly honest and going back. feel good and bad but mostly nice and warm:D
fishweewee 11-11-2003, 10:46 AM Ever go to Sports Authority, and get a brick of 500 .22 long rifle cartridges for $2.99? The individual boxes of 25 which comprise the brick are priced for $2.99. But the entire brick just has a sticker on it that says $2.99. Poor checkout clerks don't know the difference between bullets and barbells. I've had this happen to me on three occasions at the same store and each time I had to point it out to the checkout clerk.
"Bullet packaging arbitrage." :laughs:
