I had a Battle 4K spooled with 20# power pro,,, the young man who spooled it didn’t seem to be too experienced..... guessing

Every cast this morning with that rod included a wind knot! The spool was filled beyond what I would think it should be.... I dun no!

and if not spooled under pressure,,, a strain on the line , does that aggravate the problem....

It’s a new rod with quick choke and small runners..... :huh:

I put new line on my Zeebaas last night and went fishing this morning. About my 5th cast I snapped off my lure due to a wind knot. The guy who put my line on clearly sucks.

Everything I respool and I have questions I let all the line out behind the boat or yak in my case and reel back in while boat or yak is putting pressure on the line. I also haven’t closed a bail by turned the handle in a decade, always manual and I like to look to see the line isn’t over the edge of the spool.

Pushing the envelope with that line. That before or after wind knots? Also, all reels handle being filled to tip top differently. Not familiar with Battles

When Power Pro first came out, I got wind knots on all tests I tried below 40#. 40# and up, no wind knots... Just my experience... Can't cast the lighter numbers as hard as I was??? I don't know...

You stubborn ol' coot... Do your tensioning behind the boat and when it is just below level with spool, put the rod in the holder and handline in the rest of your line and presumably, your plug. Cut the line off there and move on. No need to get more wind knots or agita, IMO....

What works for me is manually closing the bail as soon as the lure hits the water then I have almost no slack when i start my retrieve. But overfilling yes. even though you think braid has no memory it will slinky off

Or another Trick I use cheap braid I find the more strands like the 8 strand and line tends to float around getting tangles around the tip as if magic was involved

Did the cut back , walked out about 100 yrds and reeled in with tight drag... the reel back produced even more spool exposed...

1/2 oz Pimple over at the soccer field,,,, all systems go... :-)

I’ve always stopped the cast at the end and manually closed the bail...
Well maybe not always, but definitely after you flakes told me to... :jump::jump:

I wet pack everything, 5 gallon bucket, a little water and a home made jig.. that being said, with the exception of deep jigging , I hate braid, too many problems, and much time wasted screwing around with it,I had a guy fishing with me Thursday night, after his third wind knot i exponded on my hatred for braid and how many fish I've seen lost because of it, his reply, like most that are enamored with it. Was that he never has a problem with it, well less than 10 minutes
later he hooked a fish of a life time, the line parted abruptly when the fish hit the mussel shoal,as it dropped into the channel the way that fish was running, it ought to be in New York bye now.. this stubborn old coot will keep his monofilament, it might chafe and shred, but it doesn't part on contact.

IMO: My narrower spool reels, like my VSX150 and Z20, handle braid better (meaning no wind knotting) than my wider spool reels. Could this be because the deeper wraps have to "uncover" first from the upper wraps during the cast dynamics?

I do all my line handling and spooling myself using a drill system I built for the purpose. I should have invested in a professional system as used in the tackle shops, but these are quite expensive. I would never advise "crank it on" spool filling on a spinning reel. Okay, of course, with a conventional reel IF you do the crank on OUTSIDE any level wind mechanism.

My observation and critique of tackle shop filling is that they do it way too fast, and ? not enough tension.

Resist the urge to fill to the brim.
The spool tends to find its happy place anyway.
I always manually close bail too. Mainly to know the line is under the bail and not looped where it shouldn’t be.

My dad forced that into my rhythm from early on,.... Nothing like a broken bail spring to make things interesting...
It's not just wind that causes the infamous wind knot symptoms either, depending on what you're tossing, your retrieve can throw some loose loops in there too...4 turns of the handle with no pressure on the line and then 3 turns with x-pressure, rinse and repeat, and you've given it potential...but nothing's perfect, she was over full...
Best thing is to not sleep on it...as soon as you know it's there, deal with it... try pulling the loop open as hard as you can, then try pulling the ends. Sometimes you can feel it give, sometimes not...but you gotsa to pull like your trying to snap the line.

what's a wind knot?...never had one...
oh, I use suffix 832...10lb up to 65 lb on daiwa reels...
