Fishing for inshore everything ( tog, bass,blues, seabass, fluke) I’m looking for thoughts on a light conventional or maybe a baitcaster. Light is the key. Last year I primarily fished a spinning setup, diawa BG 4000/ 7ft Shimano TMS all season (the anti-reverse went at the end of tog season, but Diawa was good and repaired it under warranty ).

think is a 300 size and for 40 bucks Id give it a shot for fluke seabass scup , and i am sure it could handle a bigger fish if they came along wouldn't target 40 inch fish

I fish the skinner setups and love them... flipping switch on the light bait casting reel is amazing for ground fishing.

I just swap rods in/out depending on how much of a boot I want to put to a fish

Diawa Lexa reels are great. Done everything with them. Seabass, tog, albies and bass to 30+

Calcutta 400b is the most useful saltwater reel I've ever owned. Got a bunch of 'em. Put 20 lb fused fireline on it, tie a bimini then uniknot it to 40lb fluoro leader and you'll never look back. My experience with low profile reels with disengaging level winds was very disappointing. The drag performance, at least with fireline, is way better on the Calcutta because the line comes off straight.

Agree 100%. I'm down to 2, 400s but I will die with them.
