Where’d they go?
All my old spots come up empty, finally trapped some , not tons , like back in the day…
Thinking the green crab may have something to do with this, those f uc kers…..

Thought this was going to be a post about chub mackerel as I ran into a couple people tonight who said some hardtails already caught way west.

But I do hope you find the chubs you’re looking for

Aint that the truth....
Yesterday made a few drifts after seabass (which wasn't off the charts either). Probably a doz or more fluke; all shorts, with only a couple at 18", the rest were rats.... :cens: About as bad as I have seen it the last two years for them....

Those were fun off the SUP last year. Will have to bring the trout rod one morning and have some fun with them...

Yeah, supposedly they were caught right near where I saw you last - you were either heading out or just coming in from fishing off the SUP. Been wanting to get one ever since. Seems fun with a single hook, and it’s obviously great exercise. Heading to JTN for two weeks starting tomorrow. Might rent one for a day here and there throughout the trip. Would be awesome to catch fluke off one!

One fishing bud of mine pretty much exclusively uses 6” chartreuse gulp alive grubs for fluking. Swears by them. A little pricy but they work great

Yeah, most of the “serious” guys throw tandem gulp rigs. They apparently slay.

I just put a 5 “ grub tail on a 1/2oz jig head tipped with a big squid strip. Feeding ‘em the meat… hopefully

Used to catch slammer fluke bouncing my 7” split tails around Gay Head and several other key spots around Cutty. Seemed the big ones were always deeper and required the heavier jig heads when the drift was fast, but my 7” split tail has a big head fitting nicely behind the heavier heads. Canalratt poured me a bunch of 3 oz jigs using 7/0 Owner offset hooks I’d supply, they worked great.

ps: still tons of 7” split tails left if anyone needs a restocking.
