View Full Version : Happy Independence Day & Weekend Plans
JohnR 07-02-2021, 06:37 AM Two hundred and Forty Five years ago, a bunch of folks smarter than us (certainly smarter then me) managed to give the bird to mother England, Original Brexit, and chart a course for a people unmatched in the millennia of recorded history. The oppression and taxes too great, freedoms too few, these wise folks put all their chips on the table and doubled down for future generations. This country has since become a beacon of hope to people everywhere.
For all of our problems, squabbles, and sparring, this two hundred something year old experiment in Democracy is working and we should strive harder to make it better. Sure, there may be a small handful of countries that may seem, oh I dunno, nicer, due to the lottery of geography, they have not needed to do the heavy lifting of the world. They have not become the melting pot, the inventors, or the facilitator of PAX AMERICANA, nor the bastion of Hope. Having spent time in other countries, including behind the Iron Curtain for a brief stint, we are lucky beyond words by lottery of birth.
This week, embrace your freedoms, reflect on your good fortune, and please do an extra 10%. An extra ten as a parent, child, friend, and citizen. The hard part has been done, let's not make it harder for ourselves for the next 245 years.
So what's up for the weekend?

Good for him!
Which base on Oki? Hanson, Courtney......I've been to both while calling port in White and Red Beach in Oki.

fishgolf 07-02-2021, 08:41 PM Beamie, I'm waiting to hear which. Should know on Sunday or Monday.
He and his wife are in transit and hit Alaska today. Japan tomorrow.
Very proud of him. His son is a Marine now too.
zimmy 07-02-2021, 09:05 PM Happy 4th y'all. Taxes too great is an interesting take... lack of representation in Parliament to debate and approve those taxes that other Britain's were afforded, yes. One thing is for certain, without continuing upkeep, its survival isn't certain. What better way to celebrate freedom than to drop two teenage boys off at summer camp for two weeks.

nightfighter 07-04-2021, 09:04 AM Happy 4th to all! Hope many of you were able to gather with family and friends. Blueberry pancakes to start the celebration. heading to the docks to pick up a dozen lobsters from friend who took my order. Boat price is about 7-8/lb, or ten bucks a lobster. Sure beats $13/lb at Market Basket. Hope to get a dry spell to continue work on my boat. Hope to launch by next weekend.

rphud 07-05-2021, 04:58 PM To NJ for Mom's 90th celebration, and my.....well, we don't need to go there. An awesome gathering of the family. Scored some Glen 12 year from Evan and smoked a couple of pretty nice cigars. Finishing tonight with raw fish and maybe a Fuente Shark. Not too shabby. Next year may be a milestone BDay. I'm just sayin'

Hahaha - I wish. I spent 3pm Friday thru 10am Tuesday restoring servers for a client after a catastrophic (out of warranty) storage failure.
