Plentiful peanuts around. Still need to find a 9 foot Rainshadow 1088 or something close.... Broke mine in...2018. Ten footer felt like a telephone pole and was a mismatch for what I needed to be casting.

Way to go Ross. I gingerly have been out 5 times. Just shore rocks with help. Getting a few fish.
Been using my 10m for eels but havent used the glb 9'mh in a few years. May think of selling it if it isnt put in line up.

That's great Ross.....glad to hear you are making progress. You have suffered through a lot of pain I'm sure.....having witnessed my wifes knee replacement struggles. The fact that you are shore fishing again is a testament to your willpower and your dedication to your rehab.

Some lucky person has my original Sabre 1087, which was probably the sweetest spinning rod that I ever owned. Light, easy to cast small plugs, but a ton of balls to handle a good fish. Really nice medium/fast bend. I forgot who bought it.

I have no idea what's good in 9' rods these days, but if anyone knows something comparable, I'd check out their suggestion.

Red blank? I loved that rod. Had one 20 years ago. Would throw Dannies and pencils in pleasant bay with it. Was on vacation and had it leaning up against the railing on the back deck. Forgot it was behind me and stepped on it… SNAP!

That's great, I found a wading staff helps along with a good buttcap on a surf rod.
I don't go across rivers when trout fishing like i used to and probably would be pretty wary of waves and the rocks in the salt.
And I have good original equipment :)

Red blank, yup. You could always tell an original because it had the blank number written in red grease pencil, underneath the gelcoat, near the butt.

I bought the blank for someone else, who then decided he didn't want it after all, so I had it built for myself.

I bet a trimmed 1201L would get close to the sabre in action and overall usefulness.

That sounds about right if working with a 10ft stick.

The Sabre was a great rod that excelled on the beaches whereas the 1088 could do anything, anywhere (ie, breachways, canal). That blank and the 1089 were in a league of their own as 9 ft sticks went, IMO.

Kennedy Fisher was another excellent stick, but it went 9’6 (I believe?) and was a bit more moderate in action. But I digress…

Fisher blanks were in 9 and 10' lengths, and maybe 9'6 (??). I bought a 10 and cut it 6" from the butt. It was the last Fisher blank that Pat Abate had.

So we need a rod discussion thread to lead me in the right direction to replicate these old blanks we were so happy with... I can only imagine with lighter single foot guides they might even be improved.

The reels I used then make me chuckle now. When I sold the 1087 Sabre, I think I was using a Saragossa 8000 on it. And it was before the new generation of high-end spinning reels.

I actually got out in my wetsuit earlier this season fishing from shore for the first time in 3 years? Had a great night and it felt amazing! 8 slot fish in about an hour before the bite died! Been kayak fishing mostly the past 3-4 years!

Usually only shore fish these days when I get out of my yak to stretch. The days when I would fish the shore for hours and catch keepers are long gone.
