Did a 6-pack charter with some friends, we fished or sea bass using nice light rods paired with reels by Avet. They were small, light, very smooth, I loved it. Seemed very well made, made in America. Thinking of getting one or two, anyone here use them or have any experience with them? Price isn't bad for what it looks like you're getting.

I own a couple. They are great. It is a west coast company and are a real staple for anglers out that way.

I think the owner was a machinist who was a fisherman and the rest is history. He also is a lefty, so all reels come in lefthand versions which i like as although i am a righty, i have fished spinning so long i prefer a left hand retrieve.

Beautiful reels. In my opinion, they are the van staal of conventional. Although they are not water tight they are well designed and reliable reels.

Lefty MXL with MC Magic Cast. Has been superb reel. Just have not had the pleasure or time on the water to use it much over past three years.

Joe Fig turned me on to them .Got one over the winter for Togging & sea bass ........light, yet strong >> me stupid . oh so stupid ..........lost 3 lArge tog last week because mechanical me couldn,t adjust the brakes ...... dumb fu ck :lossinit:

I have one they , hold a ton of braid a bit over kill if your getting one for just tog and sea bass , I picked mine up on flea bay you can find them 100.00 125.00. I do like the lever drag and with the line high line retrieve they work for haddock

i wouldn’t be using from shore, although mine had this “master cast” feature, some
magnetic thing that prevents backlash. when i was on the boat, at one point i was really launching that sea bass rig way further than i ever could with a conventional. didn’t need to thumb the spool at all.

I don,t believe mine is overkill .. of course I don,t know the model number .......but its the smallest they make and its light .so you can fish all day ..but again you already home before I get out :wid:

I have the 5:3 great reel for boat fishing.

They like to overrun in freespool, not a fan

I had one ,the mid size model , forget the model no and it tended to lock up. I sent it to Alan Tani, he fixed it but it came back within a year. Ended up selling it. I prefer the daiwa saltist and the shimano torium that I've bought to replace it for fluke, seabass, tog. Lighter and seem to hold up better.

I’ll second the Torium… I own two, one at the bottom of Bahston harbah

Been using avet's for years. Pretty much all i fish for conventional for bass. Very simple and robust inside.

There is a guy from New Jersey that sells blemished reels for a discount price. Bought some from him at the RISSA show a few years back.
