View Full Version : Isabel and the Derby
Fish On 09-13-2003, 02:31 PM Ugh! My week is the 20th to the 28th. I'll bet Isabel is passing our area next weekend. How close do folks think it will get to the Vineyard?
a) miss it by 500 miles or more and provide cool breezes for sipping Margeritas on South Beach
b) miss it by 300 to 500 miles sending in some nice surf for the boogie boarders and making surf casting the better alternative for a couple days
c) miss by 100 to 300 miles causing my ferry to be cancelled and a delay to the start of my vacation
d) eye will pass over Mad Martha's in Oak Bluffs cancelling my entire vacation
likwid 09-13-2003, 02:48 PM Current predictions are anywhere from SC to us....
Hard to say what its gonna do until its ontop of us...
UserRemoved1 09-13-2003, 04:11 PM Cast with the wind and ya can probably reach the mainland :D
BasicPatrick 09-13-2003, 09:53 PM Leave a day early and fish the pre huricane blitz....spend the rest of the week hanginmg around shps and docks telling the story of how you caught those twin 50's:happy:

Keep in mind that these paths project the center of the storm. Max damage will take place from 30-70 miles either side of the path...
Fish On 09-14-2003, 09:42 AM So is the general conscensus on how the hurricane will affect fishing? Should I even bring the rods for the week after the hurricane?
beachwalker 09-14-2003, 09:42 AM John,
Exactly.
This kind of storm is LONG overdue and it is not a "maybe" we will see the effects, it is a when....... how close to a direct hit...... and I pray for anyone in it's path.
Start praying :(
likwid 09-14-2003, 11:50 AM current reports show isabel gaining power since it hit the gulfstream...
macojoe 09-14-2003, 12:33 PM Well I got the cover for the boat out today and started to cover it up to keep the crap out of it!! I also tie the boat to the trailer and hook it to my truck the day of the storm. So altoghter truck and boat will way 10,000 # and if we get a derict hit I will put the plug in and fill with water!! This will keep all grounded. Now all I have to look out for if falling trees?
There is not much else I cann do but pray
!!
MikeTLive 09-14-2003, 05:34 PM I didn't even think of trees...
I have been keeping my boat exactly where Gloria dumped the top of one of our big maples.
It has since grown a new top. However, I expect it, too, would be lopped off.
I think I must clean out the barn...

blackeye 09-14-2003, 08:19 PM I'll be in standby at 8am wednesday:(
hopefully this will blow itself out-I've been waiting for these 5 days since last year-but if it does kick up maybe it will wash the black dog right into the harbor-$70 sweatshirts for freeeee!
fishweewee 09-14-2003, 08:22 PM Hate to say it but in my experience the fishing in MV gets screwed up from hurricane swells...even in Vineyard Sound. :(
UserRemoved1 09-14-2003, 08:26 PM I'm fishin Wednesday, weewee ya wanna call in sick? :D
fishweewee 09-14-2003, 08:35 PM Scott,
Can't. Already called in "sick" too many times (usually on new moons). Boss is getting wise to it.

macojoe 09-14-2003, 08:47 PM I have been sick all summer!! :laughs: I am fishing some where!! How is the race from shore on one of these things?? I no I won't be boating but I have to find a beach some where
macojoe 09-14-2003, 08:47 PM What a time to be brand new from the beach :smash: :smash:
Mike P 09-14-2003, 08:56 PM joe---I wouldn't go within 2 miles of the Race if that storm comes in on a direct hit. In fact, I would expect P-town to be an island for a few days when the Pamet River joins the ocean.
macojoe 09-14-2003, 09:03 PM well what I ment was for doing some fishing before the storm! I will go relic hunting after the sea subsides on the beach.
Fisherwoman 09-15-2003, 08:04 AM I hope this thing pushes out to sea, we are headed over to the island for 3 weeks and the fishing is just heating up. UHG!
Fish On 09-15-2003, 02:04 PM I don't think there is any chance it will head out to sea. I think our only hope will be that it hits land far south of us and heads straight inland and dies down quickly. Though I feel bad for wherever it hit lands because there will be folks living there no matter where it hits.

macojoe 09-15-2003, 03:20 PM Well I have 100 # of propane all toghter, I have both batterys from the boat charged, I have pleanty of batterys, water is not a problem.
If it comes and we lose power I will head out to the camper were i have gas for heat, hot water, and cooking. I have a small genarator that will run the freezer in the basment as needed. I have 40 gal gas in the boat for the genartor.
So I am as ready as it gets!! Let it come :D
Fish On 09-16-2003, 10:49 AM John,
Thanks so much for putting you hrricane upddate into this chain. I love the way it automatically upddates everytime an update comes out. I find myself going to this post everytime I want an update since it seems to be the easiest and most up to date.
However, I don't like the recent bend to the east. Hopefully it stays where it is and happens after it passes us.
