the trailered police boat pulled out in front of me from the station last night with it's lights flashing as I was heading home, at first I thought they must be taking Santa around town...then it occurred to me it would be an awful night to have to launch, never mind be out on the water...turns out they were headed out to search for a woman who fell off the Prudence Ferry, sounds like they were going to resume the search at first light...overnight in cold water with no flotation and awful weather...terribly sad...don't know the details...I wonder if the ferry is equipped/trained to stop and perform a rescue itself...you'd think so

Absolutely nasty conditions when that was going on. A local marine unit had to turn back because they were getting seasick.

Some speculation that she intentionally climbed over the rail, rather than accident.
