View Full Version : Gas, no, not THAT kind..
Karl F 09-15-2003, 12:36 PM Been travelling off cape more than I care to be, and will continue to be for a while, so will one of you smart fellers, tell me why ya can buy gas for $1.49 at about 4 places in Wareham, right on the main strip, and 5 miles either side of it ya pay almost 30- 40 cents more?
I know this came up before, somebody's gotta know... I know a guy who owns a gas station, granted it's on the lower cape, and he pays more than $1.49, what gives?
Slipknot 09-15-2003, 01:24 PM Those stations might be buying the bottom of the barrel(tank) stuff that nobody wants so it gets discounted. Your guy on the cape pays more because he is out on the cape just like they pay more out on the islands.
Karl F 09-15-2003, 01:42 PM I was wondering if there was something wrong with the fuel, hope it's OK, truck runs fine on it, and the mileage is just as good, if not better, (last tank anyway), than with the high price spread. Loved my friends, (gas staiton owner), answer, "Hey, if it runs on weasel piss, feed it weasel piss!" :D
Seriously, anybody have any bad experience? Or, know if the cheap stuff should be avoided?
STEVE IN MASS 09-15-2003, 02:10 PM I was in Buzzards Bay on Saturday, and wondered the same thing.....got gas for $1.49 on Route 6 downtown.....and it's not just the cheapo place, though that is where I stopped, but a few other "brand names" around....last week near M&D's it was $1.59 at a cheap-o place, but also the same price at the Exxon right down the street....
Up here in Foxboro, cheapest around is about $1.75.....so what gives?....
PS....as far as ill effects.....the Volvo ran great back from the canal on Saturday after gassing up with the cheapo stuff.....was okay all day Sunday.....this AM, I was going out to the grocery, and it was running rough and backfiring.....sounded like gunshots, thought the neighbors were gonna call the police....
But after pulling back in the driveway, and revving the engine for about 3 minutes, back to normal......so........that has happened to the Volvo once or twice before, and I always worry that the MAP sensor is gone when that happens (not to mention the recent timing belt work), but then the problem just disappears......probably some condensation from the onset of the humid weather in either the distributer cap or in the gas line.....but she's running fine now.....
Mike P 09-15-2003, 02:55 PM Sorrenti (the chap that runs the Texaco station at the Sag rotary) has been a thief for years. Every station near the rotaries are 20 cents higher than anywhere else, but Sorrenti has always been the highest of the high.
The Mobil self-serve at the end of the Town Hall road in BB was selling for the same price as the cut-rate guy across from the police station, and was 14 cents cheaper than Citgo at the Xtra mart when I was last down there.
Backbeach Jake 09-15-2003, 05:05 PM When I worked in P-town the excuse was " They have to truck it way out here" Well, guess what , they have to truck it EVERYWHERE!! Sheesh!

Karl F 09-15-2003, 09:35 PM copied this from this years "Darwin Awards".. be carefull watchya siphonin'.....
A 5-STAR STUPIDITY AWARD WINNER!
When a man attempted to siphon gasoline from a motor home parked on a Seattle street, he got much more than he bargained for. Police arrived at the scene to find a very sick man curled up next to a motor home near spilled sewage. A police spokesman said that the man admitted to trying to steal gasoline and plugged his siphon hose into the motor home's sewage tank by mistake. The owner of the vehicle declined to press charges, saying that it was the best laugh he'd ever had.
