After hauling out for the season I had the pleasure of cleaning the worst beard and growth from the boat's bottom. Warmer water ie. climate change? Or simply not enough use? I use Micron CSC, so not being cheap on choice of bottom paint. What have you seen this year?

I do envy people with slips , But I don't envy them when it's time to haul out. Very soon my trailer is going to need a rebuild . and not looking forward to that

On a mooring, not a slip, but same, same when comparing to trailering, I think. I cannot imagine that launch/haul routine every outing. I would stress just thinking about it. Even adding the time spent prepping and cleaning the bottom to my getting to and from the mooring over the season, I think I am ahead of the game versus trailering...

So my mooring is in a shallow area of Salem side of Marblehead. It has maybe two feet of water below the transducer on a moon tide. So the water will get warmer than if in deeper water, or possibly be shaded if in a slip. Prevalent breeze here is SW, especially in afternoons. The reason I point out this information is because the growth on the starboard waterline was noticeably worse than on the port side.... Just an observation I found interesting and have spent some time pondering the reasons....

Algae uses nutrients to grow.. that's where you start looking
My boat was very clean, I use Petit ablative paint., no beard, no barnacles... my eel keepers are another story..nasty.. but they always are
My lobster pots were badly fouled in May and june, all the algae was gone except for mung during storms by late July

a few barnickles [sp] not much slime an its now getting heavy [LOL]
when RI first put in the underground t for the sewerage system

and it released its chemicals ....the whole Bay started changing

an hasn,t really stopped .

be have [for the most part[ no lady crabs / black mussels/ starfish / duck seed / & many of the the marine life that was around the shoreline

out water is super clean for people but not for the marine envirament

the quahog pop has been declining steadly / steamers are
almost non exsistent / havn,t seen a wild oyster in years

there is no FIRE IN THE WATER anymore .

were so curious whay mu hull would look like . that they took my trailer & pulled my boat out of the water just to see the bottom ................ they were shocked that it wasn,t bad at all

My boat is 19 years old an the hull had only been completely painted two or maybe three times .<.

Same deal as last year, almost to the day. More barnicles than ever.

I loved being on a trailer, being able to launch based on weather, bite, species your targeting and not worrying about storms, vandalism and the expensive and hassle of bottom maintenance.

Biggest barnacles in 15 years after hauling my boat off my mooring in the great island salt pond. some the size of grapes. Sliced my hand on a couple while trying to remove them from my motor
