anybody ever target them specifically? there are some party boats in NH that target them early spring. They’re tiny fish obviously that you’re hauling from from really deep water with heavy gear. it ain’t as sporty as fishing a #6 nymph for a 6-inch brook trout perhaps, but it’s something to do when there might not be a whole lot else to do. and great eating from what i understand.

Anyone done it? my kids want to try this spring.

Never targeted them. Might be worth it for the novelty of another species.

thats what i’m thinking. there’s a window in the spring when you can get lots of reds and expect some haddock and also keep your limit of 1 cod.

Hey Jim - I've done it. It's a fun, cooler-filling trip, even if the fish are small. They are great eating though.

I did it in March on Eastman's Fleet, before haddock (and cod) had opened. If you went in April, you should be able to catch (and keep) all three.

On the redfish-only trips, seems like a cusk usually takes the pool, but the coolest fish to come over the rail were the six or so wolffish that people caught and released.

Good luck if you go!
