Here's a little story I have about myself and Hab
Back in the early 2000's (I don't remember the exact date) me and a friend had a late October Saturday night commando run planned for Block Island.
Earlier that week Habs posted that he would be out on the island field testing his new Night-N-Gal and if you saw him to just ask and he would give you one.
There were so many people out that weekend fishing, More than I ever saw of all the times I've ever been out there.
The guy that was coming with me was late to get to my house that it was going to be a chore to make the last ferry, I was up for the 2+ hour drive and we made it with about 5 minutes to spare
We got off the ferry at dusk and as some who know me I like to fish the SW Bar at dusk so we headed there, Great no one was there, at least no cars.
This is when you could park as close to the trail before they blocked the dirt path after that big house was built.
We got to the shore and edge of the bar I saw about 30 yards to the left a man with a rod looking down at something then bend down and picked it up.
As the man walked up us It was habs carrying a 20 something pound bass that was dead and had washed ashore, I asked what are you going to do with that? I don't remember the answer but we joked about it and had some laughs.
I asked where his Hab mobile was and he said I parked at Dorries Cove and have been walking the shore
I never liked asking Plug builder for plugs so I didn't ask for a prototype. He says to us I guess you guys want a plug, He hands my friend one and turns his head to me and says sorry that was my last one.
I answered I'll just buy one when they're out on the market as he asked to see my pliers I hand them to him he unhooked the one on his rod cut it off and handed it to me with a smile says go large with it
Then he tells me if I want plugs come to his shop he has a bucket with bleems in it and I can have as many as I want.
John then heads back his way to the direction of Dorries and we fished the bar with no luck as a matter of fact we got nothing all night.
I think everyone on the island that night got a skunk as I remember
John was one of a kind and Miss him, He had a knack of showing up in places you would never expect.
