Hey Katie , what's with the Hippies Stink thing? Some of the nicest people I ever met were hippies. No Joke there. Like people in any other group you might stereotype there are some good and bad.

You might be surprised at how many of the older people here were hippies or close to it in their younger days!! :) I'm gonna guess that if this was 1969 and you were a teenager , you'd think the hippies were pretty cool.

Hippies might have not been overly fond of the use of soap, but, never met one with a bad bone, in their body. I was called a red-necked hippie once :laughs:
But, Katie, I'd never advocate killin' them!! They is friendly, like a Good Golden Retriever is ;)

You are so right, Chris L. Some of my fondest high school memories include a chick who couldn't have been more gentle or caring and wore ratty old (however I found them sexy) overalls embroidered with symbols and flowers, halter tops and sandals. Damn I miss her! And the times.

She had rings on her fingers and bells on her shoes.
I knew without asking she was into the blues.
She wore scarlet bagonias tucked between her curls.
I knew right away she was not like other girls, other girls.

Put a little maple syrup on them, and wash them down with a fine lager

Naw, mix them up in O.J. - it's good fer ya:D

Still better than fresh buttons.

You know, I had a friend like that but I think the lyrics that describe her best would be:

"She's got everything delightful, she's got everything I need, takes the wheel when I'm seeing double, pays my ticket when I speed"

We weren't exactly denizens of things herbaceous or cactaceous, but give us a blanket on Callahan's or Mackamaw Beach at sunset (Fishweewee, MikeP, maybe a few others might have heard of these places), a bottle of Boone's Farm and/or Annie Green Springs and we were happy just diggin' each other and groovin' to the scene man. I may be back there right now in my mind, I'm not sure yet. (That's back when Imus In The Morning was on WABC).

Boone's Farm.....LOL....I'm just a tad young for the true Hippy Generation (I was born in 1960), but they certainly had an influence on my teenage years.....

Got Colt 45? (Quart bottles, please)......;), and, BTW, can I "Shotgun" that Bud?.....;)

This thread has totally put me back in my youth and I miss my little hippie (hopefully Google can find her again). Ahhhh Long Island in the 70's, drinking age was still 18, bars stayed open until 4:00AM then you went to Jack in the Box and had a contest eating Breakfast Jacks, then if there wasn't a home football game you went back to Gunther's for a few shorts, then football in the park and back to the overalled GF's place for a "nap". Schmidts was popular, but anyone who was anyone brought Miller bottles to a party.

chris L

yep use to shoot miller genuines . it was the " high life " . boones farm was top notch stuff . I liked the colors of everything. I could hear them better and see sounds better back then .

hear comes the judge . sock it too me .
laugh-in was all the rage on Sundays and so was the cutting edge show " ed sullivan " ya know it was big ed the radio personality that brought the beetles , the stones and the doors to everyones living room . "We have a really really big shoe tonite " ! the cavalcade of stars was a great show . ya had maryjane and her brothers lsd and pcp also cousin thc and mama speed . the dead the stones the beetles the cranberries , chuck berry , even the edsil was still alive , nero shirts . jeans were popularized fast cars easy woman . black and white TV ( or as my kids call it gray TV ) even S & H green stamps .

Jimbo---I grew up in Rhody but I know Callahan's Beach ;)

Imus was on 660 WNBC, tho, which came in very well in RI. Right between 630 WPRO in Providence and 690 WRKO in Beantown. In fact it came in better than RKO.

It was Imus followed by Big Wilson way back then.

Arnie "woo woo" Ginsburg on a.m. radio playing all the hot hits of the day. There was a carhop on route 1 north of Boston that when you went there and said "woo woo" when you ordered you would get a free order of french fries and "freedom" fries were a long way off. Could you imagine pulling up to the driveup and saying "woo woo" now you would certainly hear the "woo woo" of sirens moments later.
The 60's when living in a van was first made popular. When Jimmy Hendrix and Mitch Rider and the Detroit Wheels played a dive bar in P-town on the same night. Talk about wild, whoa boy.
The 60's when you could thumb a ride anywhere and not have to worry about getting caught up in something on the way.
The 60's when Ripple, Thunderbird, or Boones Fram apple wine were always fine until the morning after, and any beer would do.
The 60's when half kegs (15 gallons of beer) were invented for party goers, or at least whn we first discovered they were available for sale. Pick one of those up now.
The 60's when a custom made Gordan & Smith surfboard could be bought for $165.00 and spending all day at the beach cost nada.
The 60's when there was still a parking lot and a bathhouse at coast guard beach and there was a food stand at Nauset Beach the Whiting family ran and if they liked you they would let you charge food even though you were a little beach bum kid. Thanks for letting me remember somethings very dear to my heart.

"uffah!!"
