Trump fired three officials at that agency, effectively stalling the board's ability to rule on cases. See how this works?

detbuch 02-16-2025, 09:48 PM 250 years of unconstitutional actions have led to a situation so dire that it can only rightly be corrected through radical, mostly illegal and insanely irresponsible unconstitutional action. WTF?
The unconstitutional federal regulatory agencies with plenary power didn't become an issue until the FDR Administration, so it has been more like 100 years, not 250.
Our past eight years of prosecuting and impeaching Trump, and investigating him for conspiring with an enemy should assure us that he will not be allowed to escape any "mostly illegal" activities. So rest easy on that.
For a time I actually thought Reagan Republicans would make a come back. Remember the shining city on a hill inclusive of everyone to be lifted up? Hell, old Ronny was the first DEI president!
Everyone is still included in the opportunity to lift themselves up. But even Reagan didn't believe that they should be lifted up simply by government decrees and mandates, but by true merit and self discipline.
“Accidentally” firing the people who keep our nuclear arsenal safe isn’t an “oops”
Why not?
it’s just another example of how they couldn’t give a crap about average Americans.
What does it have to do with "Average" Americans?
Just like cutting the CDC while we’re on the brink of another outbreak
I'm sure RFK jr will do a good job on all that.
Hope he fixes the incompetence that org. displayed during the Covid crisis.
or illegally eliminating USAid which keeps our troops out of harms way is equally illegal and dumb.
So we didn't keep our troops out of harms way before USAid existed? Why would we depend on USAid to keep our troops out of harms way? How about the Defense Department or State Department or the Pentagon doing their jobs re that. Or how about not putting the troops in harms way unless they have the sufficient ordnance, backup and communication capabilities to handle it.
Why depend on an unconstitutional agency that does all manner of other things, including:
Here are only a few examples of the WASTE and ABUSE of USAid:
$1.5 million to “advance diversity equity and inclusion in Serbia’s workplaces and business communities”
$70,000 for production of a “DEI musical” in Ireland
$2.5 million for electric vehicles for Vietnam
$47,000 for a “transgender opera” in Colombia
$32,000 for a “transgender comic book” in Peru
$2 million for sex changes and “LGBT activism” in Guatemala
$6 million to fund tourism in Egypt
Hundreds of thousands of dollars for a non-profit linked to designated terrorist organizations — even AFTER an inspector general launched an investigation
Millions to EcoHealth Alliance — which was involved in research at the Wuhan lab
“Hundreds of thousands of meals that went to al Qaeda-affiliated fighters in Syria”
Funding to print “personalized” contraceptives birth control devices in developing countries
Hundreds of millions of dollars to fund “irrigation canals, farming equipment, and even fertilizer used to support the unprecedented poppy cultivation and heroin production in Afghanistan,” benefiting the Taliban
The list literally goes on and on — and it has all been happening for decades.
But no, let’s weaken our alliances, withdraw our influence and coddle authoritarians and dictators.
Trump's rhetoric and actions (influence) have caused our alliances to strengthen themselves militarily (or realize that they
have to do so) which actually overall will strengthen the total alliance. And which does not coddle any enemies. In the meantime, diplomatic relations with adversaries, backed by a stronger EU, is wisdom, not coddling. I would love to see a greater western economic pact which included Russia in its sphere of alliances.
While we’re at it flaunt the rule of law, suppress the media and eliminate government oversight.
See above for the flaunting rule of law nonsense.
The media doesn't seem to be "suppressed" except by its own realization that it has lost customers due to its own overly slanted "news" and opinion re Trump the past eight years. And that it needs to make some changes in order to continue existing.
This is all very “Constitutional” and by your reading just what the Founding Fathers envisioned, except it’s what they hoped would never come to be.
It is very Constitutional to change the nature of or eliminate federal regulatory agencies. If they must exist, they should be advisory, investigative, or procedural in nature, and should not have power to legislate in any way, and certainly should not have any judiciary power in matters of disputes with the public.
And yes, the Founding Fathers did hope such administrative agencies with plenary power that we now have "would never come to be."
As they noted in their Declaration of Independence regarding the Central power of the King whom they fervently were revolting against:
"He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our people, and eat out their substance."
They would have seen this centralized administrative state with its multitude of new agencies and their swarms of officers to be the kind of tyranny they would fight to be free from.

Earlier this month the Trump administration described a separate grant of $70,000 (£56,000) for a "DEI musical" in Ireland as "crap" that US taxpayer money was "wasted on
Now an examination of spending records shows that in October 2021 $24,000 (£19,000) of US taxpayer's money was given to the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) in Dun Laoghaire, Co Dublin, to "nurture and encourage equality, inclusion and diversity in storytelling, by facilitating self-generated narratives from diverse community groups through the medium of film".

What does it matter? If you can show wasteful or abusive USAid funding during Trump's administration, how would that make the agency not wasteful or abusive?
But we know you’ll never ask to see that.. it’s not convenient….
It would just be further proof of the agency's wastefulness and abuse.
No doubt USAid wasted money during Trump's administration as well as during its tenure under the other Presidents.
In my opinion giving taxpayer money to an art institute in Ireland, especially for a DEI project, is a waste of money for a country that is 30 trillion dollars in debt, and whose citizens are suffering inflationary prices for their necessities as well as an impending collapse of their Social Security investment.
FYI just because Trump considers it waste and abuse. Because he doesn’t like it. Doesn’t make it so.

I have not heard the Musk version of this, if there is one. But, from what you've posted, it doesn't move me enough to really care in the grand political schemes of legislation that uphold or destroy the constitutional integrity of our system of government. It does appear, however, to be well below the high standard set by Democrats . . . so I'll go with the flow and say that his behavior is wrong. Sort of. Certainly not befitting of the constantly high quality vective that gushes daily from the lips of Democrats.

The IRS represented a very simple test for the credibility of DOGE. Was it really interested in efficiency and state capacity? If so, you support tax enforcement, the biggest return on investment in government, generating somewhere between $5-9 for every additional $1 spent on enforcement.
Or did DOGE want to minimize parts of the state that bothered billionaires?

The newest dystopian thriller that everyone is talking about these days is a little hard to swallow, even by Hollywood standards. The supervillain is an almost cartoonish sort: The world’s richest man with a drug habit, 11 scattered kids, and a penchant for sleeping on couches (if at all). With his posse of young male tech groupies, he uses his billions to first buy the political discourse, then a greedy puppet president, and finally, through him, the levers of government.
It’s almost too late when the masses learn the villain’s real purpose: To replace the flawed humanity of democracy with machines designed by an unaccountable tech elite. And the heroes of our story — a gaggle of activists, outsider journalists and mid-level politicians who realize the truth — are running out of time.
This unbelievable plot line is our reality, now playing out in Washington, D.C., and coming soon to a closed federal office or downsized university near you. The blitzkrieg by Elon Musk and his small cult of 20-something dude-bro minions against the federal government — crushing foreign aid and consumer protection, threatening the Department of Education and seeking a chokehold over the entire federal payment system — has left everyday Americans dazed and confused. And we’re just three weeks into the Donald Trump presidency that has enabled the $400 billion man.
The rapid onslaught by Musk and his pseudo-government agency, the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, has happened in a scattershot, unpredictable way that has also left the Beltway media in the dust. Few, if any, seem to understand what Musk, DOGE, or their hands-off patron in Trump truly want. It’s true that massive cuts in the programs that empower middle-class Americans will mean more money for things that Musk, Trump and their allies want, including more tax cuts for the super-rich and a large deportation army. But a community of folks who pay attention to Silicon Valley — the new center of power, not Washington — says the bigger idea is darker and much more sinister.
“This isn’t a spontaneous coup — it’s the culmination of a dangerous ideology that has been meticulously developed since the 2008 financial crisis, one that sees democracy itself as obsolete technology ready to be ‘disrupted,’“ a veteran Silicon Valley executive, Mike Brock, wrote in a recent essay, The Plot Against America. He explained: ”DOGE is not about efficiency. It is about erasure. Democracy is being deleted in slow motion, replaced by proprietary technology and AI models. It is a coup, executed not with guns, but with backend migrations and database wipes."
That’s dangerous, because most of us — voters, but also the media, Congress and other watchdogs — are much better at understanding a violent coup where cops are beaten and attacked, as on Jan. 6, 2021, than “backend migrations.” But longtime watchers say the dangerous techno-fascism behind Musk’s DOGE has a long-time patron in Musk’s ally and fellow South Africa-raised billionaire, Peter Thiel, and a key inventor: Curtis Yarvin.
A 51-year-old computer engineer and blogger with a following going back to the 2000s, Yarvin is unknown to most Americans but his radical ideas have grown deep roots in some MAGA circles. In many ways, his views are deeply problematic on issues like race — telling the New York Times last month that Black people were worse off in their freed years right after the Civil War than when they were enslaved, for example. But Yarvin’s bigger ideas about the failure of democracy and the need for a kind of monarch, or a dictator, with the value system of technological elites — cemented after the 2008 financial crisis — have gained admirers that include Vice President JD Vance.
“If Americans want to change their government, they’re going to have to get over their dictator phobia,” Yarvin wrote under a pseudonym in 2012. Yarvin and a circle of “thought leaders” in Silicon Valley and other far-right communities believe that democracy is a kind of inefficient mob rule, broken beyond repair, but that a high-tech-flavored “creative destruction” could replace it with a notion of better government through computer engineering.
In explaining what Yarvin has also called “turbocapitalism,” Suzanne Schneider in the UK’s New European wrote: “The engineers...represent the triumph of instrumental reason in our new century. They fetishize efficiency and understand the democratic state as an impediment to the sort of ‘progress’ they desire.” Ultimately these ideas were adopted by billionaires with the power in an age of unlimited campaign spending to change America like Thiel, who notoriously wrote in 2009 that “I no longer believe that freedom and democracy are compatible.”
Ideas from this extreme-right intelligentsia spent the last 15 years morphing, remarkably, into reality. These include controlling the flow of information (Musk buying Twitter for $44 billion in 2022), a Yarvin 2022 proposal called “RAGE” for Retire All Government Employees (thus, the DOGE-led push for mass resignations and firings of the federal workforce), and the more recent Silicon Valley embrace of cryptocurrency as a tool to disrupt the institutions of a comatose democracy. Now, Musk’s DOGE team is racing to replace the fired or locked-out civil servants with generative artificial intelligence in what a TechPolicy Press writer calls “an AI Coup,” because it “concentrates power with those who understand and control this system’s maintenance, upkeep, and upgrades.”
Normally, these fringe ideas would have stayed about 3,000 miles west of Washington, quarantined in their wealthy California bubble, but a perfect storm put this nightmare on the brink. For one thing, a majority of rank-and-file voters also lost faith in government as well as the institutions that support civil society, if perhaps for different reasons. Even more importantly, the anti-democratic ideas of Yarvin and Thiel found both an even wealthier ally in Musk and also a front man in Trump, the bridge with an ability to seduce MAGA voters, even as he agreed to cede enormous power to billionaires, in a Faustian bargain to gain four more years in the White House.
Trump’s “red Caesar” techno-monarchy is actually just high-tech tyranny. Government by AI isn’t more efficient, just inhumane, and it’s also a lie, because the real decisions aren’t actually being made by computers, but by the corrupted humans who program them. And their unbridled faith in Silicon Valley elites is often an excuse to govern America with the same foundations of white supremacy and misogyny that thrive in the tech world. The humans who pretend in the ethical purity of AI really just want more obscene wealth for themselves and the same impunity for their crimes that Trump has granted himself.
The masses of American people need to understand that we are already pawns in their experiment, and that a small band of billionaires and their disciples played the cruelest hoax of using a democratic election on Nov. 5, 2024, to push the start button on their program to end democracy. Humanity needs to fight back quickly, before their AI algorithm decides that on Nov. 7, 2028, your vote doesn’t matter at all.

If you really want to eliminate waste start with the hundreds of billions spent to service the debt on tax cuts for the top 1%.

wdmso 02-18-2025, 07:46 AM I have not heard the Musk version of this, if there is one. Sort of. I haven’t seen an original thought from you in this thread, just claims that others are deranged about Trump while demonstrating that you’re deranged by him.
Kinda hypocritical, honestly I don’t care if you have a sack or not.
The felon and his co-president are currently engaged in a disassembly of the current government.
Claiming that it now consists of unelected bureaucrats
Hint pre Trump it had the fewest employees since the 70s
Their group of unelected bureaucrats are doing a number of things which are illegal and or unconstitutional.
They have now switched their claim to be that Musk is not in charge of DOGE.
So now we have a bunch of Musk followers and their bots installed in government led by who?
It’s been a little over three weeks that the FFOTUS and FElon have been in power and people are starting to realize what they are doing.
You might also figure it out, but you seem like that guy who’ll have a Trump tattoo on his back.

Democrats have announced that it's time to take this fight to the streets :rotf2:.

If I had to start over it would be even easier. God blessed me with good health, and great parents. The land of opportunity is still alive and well and the last election has been a godsend to those who struggle and strive for success.
More ass umptions. Who is the president now? c'mon...you can say it. Hypocrite...cry some more
Ive come to the obvious conclusion that even when you rub your two remaining brain cells together you still got nothing.
So what. Nothing you or the rest of you TDS suckers can do about it. Is there?
Cry some more...that's about it.
I've heard some dems are suggesting taking the fight to the streets.:rotf3:

^^^^^^These low IQ references to nazis, hitler, ss, etc. are what the American people rejected, and helped Trump win. Good job.
I understand it can be difficult for those whose intelligence abruptly stopped growing at age 15.
This support group was set up for just that purpose.
More crying from the sackless hypocrites. Fifteen pages of butthurt stupidity.
So ....what action will you take to stop this great president's agenda? Nothing....that is what you will do. Absolutely nothing.
That is what this support group is for....safe space for wounded libs to vent. This thread may ease your angst and keep me mildly entertained....with a few good laughs mixed in.
Four more years...losers.
Ive asked questions....several. Only one answered. Of course I believe in the Constitution. See how easy. As far as debates...i will pass.....waste of time with TDS patients.
Will you hypocrites be taking the fight to the streets ...as your elite democrat leaders....Maxine Waters and Chuck Shummer have suggested? I doubt it....sackless.
Keep guessing....you are clueless. If democrats protest....the midterms will complete their total ass whooping. I here there is going to be a protest in Fairhaven on president's day. Can we count on a few of you dimwits to show up?
Knowingly debating with TDS idiots is not productive. Nudging you clowns to expose youre hypocrisy is.
You have no points....and this is too freaking easy.
Pace yourselves...its going to be a long time before you feel well again. Im heading off for work....dont want you fools to think im hiding. Ill be back to see who #^&#^&#^&#^& themselves later.
Cry some more....then respond again and again. Precious
Nice part of getting older....not giving a rats sperm what others think. Don't need anyone's approval and say what I want ..when I want to.
You going to the massive protest in Fairhaven on president's day? It's going to be epic.

This country's move to Lenin and Stalin and Hitler and Robespierre and the Kaiser started with the Progressive movement in the late 19th century and was put in high gear during the FDR administration and has dribbled, off and on, continuously since then with the rise of our administrative state.
The DOGE kind of stuff is the only serious attempt to begin dismantling that unelected administrative grip that has gotten a stranglehold on our representative democracy.

By using an unelected. musk. And questionable legal theories.
Even though republicans control the white house senate and the house..

The DOGE kind of stuff is the only serious attempt to begin dismantling that unelected administrative grip that has gotten a stranglehold on our representative democracy.
The Progressive movement was in response to the rise of corporations.
John D. Rockefeller’s Standard Oil Company came to control 90-95% of oil refineries in the U.S.
Journalists, such as Ida Tarbell, exposed the nefarious methods used by John D. Rockefeller to push out honest competitors.
The government responded to harmful corporate behavior through the passage of the Sherman Antitrust Act, which sought to limit large corporations’ ability to fix prices and exclude competition. Under the administration of Theodore Roosevelt, the Sherman Act was vigorously enforced through over 40 antitrust suits.
Never mind that since the 1970s almost all of our small businesses have been decimated by corporate agglomeration to the detriment of our middle class, today we have Amazon, Tesla, Microsoft, Google….
And Musk has effective control of our government while FFOTUS with his obedient MAGA followers in Congress think they can control him.

Actually today’s population is roughly 3X what it was in 1910 so we could make it a dozen rather than 4.
Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffett, Elon Musk, Steve Ballmer, Larry Ellison, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, Jim Walton, Rob Walton, and Jensen Huang are worth 2 Trillion and that’s a greater concentration of wealth than at any time in American history.
In the past fifty years these same people have gained control of retail, housing, healthcare, media, heavy industry and manufacturing which they offshored.
Left alone they will set it up so our children will be born in a hospital they control, attend a for profit school, rent a home, get information from an entity they control, get food from a corporate farm they control, bank with an entity controlled by them but at least it won’t be socialism.

detbuch 02-18-2025, 03:52 PM The Progressive movement was in response to the rise of corporations.
It was a response to way more than that. The early Progressive theorists viewed the world of their time as too different in its nature to be suitable for "The People" to fully realize their potential as individuals or as groups or as a society under the political strictures imposed on government by the Founders Constitution of a different era.
And they did believe that government was the sole means for that People to be given some sort of functional freedom as opposed to the strictly legal freedom from government tyranny as outlined in our Constitution.
And so, government had to be freed from the old Constitutional constraints of separation of powers and restrictive enumerations of power. The Constitution, if not actually discarded, had to become a "living breathing" thing that evolved with every new generation of people with their particular niche in history, and so with new iterations of public policy. And Policy was the key. And government could not be hampered in its ability to create whatever new policies its experts deemed to be good and necessary.
It isn't necessarily that they had bad ideas that is the dispute. Rather it is the method they propose, and essentially have, of getting there.
And the key to that way is to rule not by "democracy," but by expert administration. So more and more regulatory agencies, now in the hundreds, had to be created to draft various regulations at will, not by public vote--and have the legal power proforma to do so, to execute with enforcement powers, and to have the internal power to adjudicate public challenges. That is, they have the tyrannical ability to legislate, execute, and adjudicate, all in one agency--the definition of tyranny.
Rockefeller made oil and its uses far cheaper for the public than if he had not existed. He was much more a good guy than a baddy. This is an interesting read: https://fee.org/articles/john-d-rockefeller-and-the-oil-industry/

And this all under the regime of the Progressive trend in our political system. How can this be? Are Progressives actually human? And capable of being paid off? Are they hypocrites, power mongers, Pretenders who grow rich at the trough of political power? Some of the Progressive grunts that took to the streets and protested early on may have been poor, but I don't know of any Prominent Progressive ideologue, early or current, or Progressive politician who is poor or "middle class. On the other hand, the Rockefeller and Amazon and Tesla types create actual affordable products and jobs and wealth which can all be taxed to enrich the Progressive types.

OK . . . so we are considered idiots or conspiracists and must be censored if we say without proof that the 2020 election was stolen by the Dems, but it's OK to keep saying without proof that Trump is Putin's puppet. It gets very old. Nazi, fascist, racist, xenophobe, misogynist, racist, anti-gay, porn merchant, blah blah blah--no really solid evidence of any of that gibberish. But OK to keep repeating it all. And also to saying the puppet nonsense.

Is there an actual record of this back door deal? What exactly is it?
Putin knew Biden was for Ukraine joining NATO or the EU.. so he invaded. Trump admit as much. And now he’s blaming Ukraine
Apparently, you're saying that only Trump being President was stopping him from invading Ukraine. He did invade before Trump was elected . . . and after he was unelected. So the smart thing, for Ukraine's fate, was to elect Trump. But what happens in four years, or sooner if he is successfully removed from office or assassinated? Will someone have to make another back door deal?
What if Ukraine had made, or what's left of it did make a back door deal with Russia assuring it wouldn't join NATO.
Too much iffy maybe. It was understood that Russia did not want, and thought it had an agreement, that Ukraine would not be allowed to join NATO. That was not an if or maybe. And it must have been known that Russia would not allow it. And that there would be consequences, serious consequences, if it did try to join.

They are trying to finagle exceptions to President Donald Trump’s sweeping executive orders or cuts made by billionaire Elon Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service that freeze hundreds of billions of dollars, including money for farmers and infrastructure projects. That push comes as the administration has also sought to fire a wide swath of federal employees — some of whom live in red states.

You're proving my point. If you can (erroneously) just as well say his actions could be all those things, and more, there must be a purpose to singling out Nazi. The actions are not specifically or particularly Nazi. As well, he has acted in ways opposite to the Nazis.
There is obviously an agenda, not truth or reality, to calling him a Nazi.
So presenting facts and pointing out the obvious similarities is having an agenda?
You seem unable or un willing to see Trumps actions and deeds in their entirety.. there’s no agenda I said the same thing in 2016
If you can (erroneously) just as well say his actions could be all those things.
the Brits, or the French, or the Belgians, or FDR, or LBJ, or Abe Lincoln, or Bill Clinton . . . D
comment like above is why I find your argument lazy. Maybe I should have used lackadaisical …. It’s whatabouism at its finest.
You seem to still think .. the references to Nazi like . Isn’t based on Trumps actually actions or his supporters behavior..
And Trump won the election. No questions…. But what I can’t understand is all his rabid supporters who claim to love the constitution and the rules of law . Are cheering his anti democratic activities
He hold all the levers of power and yet there is no legislative action on the table to fix or change things others than tax cuts via the constitution that you and others claim to love? And so far have been unable to articulate why supporting the dear leader with out question… is constitutional.
So in a nutshell if Trump and Musk didn’t behave like nazis fascist misogynistic authoritarians. They possibly wouldn’t be referred to as Nazi fascist misogynistic authoritarian….
wdmso 02-19-2025, 08:59 AM Echoing Kremlin, Trump blames Zelensky for war, angering Ukrainians
President Donald Trump said Volodymyr Zelensky had low approval ratings and elections were needed, statements also made in the past week by the Kremlin and disputed by Ukrainians.
Today I heard, ‘Oh, we weren’t invited,’” Trump said late Tuesday, referring to Ukraine’s complaints about being excluded from the meetings and fears that Washington and Moscow will reach a settlement to impose on Ukraine.
“Well, you’ve been there for three years, you should have ended it,” Trump said. “You should have never started it. You could have made a deal.”
Exact quote from our dear leader
So Trump thinks Russian elections are free and fair. But he’s no Russian puppet ya ok
But he’s not any of those mean references people have made against him.
Pete F. 02-19-2025, 09:11 AM No, aggressive censorship is not particularly a Nazi action. It is a common adversarial method used by those influential enough to use it. As witnessed by the revelations of the twitter files.
Ahh, the Twitter files, we’ll get back to those shortly
The Department of Government Efficiency, the federal cost-cutting initiative championed by Elon Musk, published on Monday a list of government contracts it has canceled, together amounting to about $16 billion in savings itemized on a new “wall of receipts” on its website.
Almost half of those line-item savings could be attributed to a single $8 billion contract for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. But it appears that the DOGE list vastly overstated the actual intended value of that contract. A closer scrutiny of a federal database shows that a recent version of the contract was for $8 million, not $8 billion. A larger total savings number published on the site, $55 billion, lacked specific documentation.
A bunch of incompetent work, by people operating far beyond their capabilities.
This is absolutely the Twitter Files for the government.
Elon wanted to humiliate his enemies. But what Twitter Files showed was generally careful governance, some bad calls, & stuff taken out of context by “journalists” who didn’t understand the basics. Same here.
It’s the same methodology boosted by the same people.
Crawl through a bunch of stuff, find something that seems outrageous, make an online mob lose their minds. Destroy work, upend lives. Get it totally wrong, move to the next thing.
This time it’s not online governance, it’s actual government.

spence 02-19-2025, 09:16 AM I’m some respects Trump is worse than Hitler. Hitler and his cabal figured out how to seize absolute power largely within an existing legal structure. Trump hasn’t, and our system has many more safeguards so he’s testing the limits of authority to circumvent the law.
Congress has already surrendered, if the courts don’t stand up we may never see the mid-terms.

There’s a good thread on Bluesky about this by Walter Olsen
“If I'm reading the White House's fact sheet correctly -- the text of the actual EO doesn't seem to have been posted yet -- today's new executive order is momentous but not because it aggresses against the role of the courts or touches off any sort of constitutional crisis. /1”

Imagination Library is a book-gifting program for children under 5 in hopes of fostering early literacy.
With the pending removal from the state’s budget, the program will have no funding to get books into the hands of families.

its sad Zelinsky need to correct our President with actual facts
Zelensky has chosen to point out publicly where Trump is wrong (and Putin). It’s not 4% support for his presidency, for example, it’s 57%. Not $500bn in US support to Ukraine, more like $100bn.
Donald Trump is “living in a disinformation space”, Zelensky says, but he even couches that in talk of respect and gratitude. It can’t be easy to watch your closest ally suddenly switch position on all that is important to you.
US President Donald Trump's administration is attempting to rehire officials with the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) who worked on the government response to bird flu before being fired over the weekend,

Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 Billion Dollars, to go into a War that couldn't be won, that never had to start, but a War that he, without the U.S. and "TRUMP," will never be able to settle. The United States has spent $200 Billion Dollars more than Europe, and Europe's money is guaranteed, while the United States will get nothing back. Why didn't Sleepy Joe Biden demand Equalization, in that this War is far more important to Europe than it is to us - We have a big, beautiful Ocean as separation. On top of this, Zelenskyy admits that half of the money we sent him is "MISSING." He refuses to have Elections, is very low in Ukrainian Polls, and the only thing he was good at was playing Biden "like a fiddle." A Dictator without Elections, Zelenskyy better move fast or he is not going to have a Country left. In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the War with Russia, something all admit only "TRUMP," and the Trump Administration, can do. Biden never tried, Europe has failed to bring Peace, and Zelenskyy probably wants to keep the "gravy train" going. I love Ukraine, but Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his Country is shattered, and MILLIONS have unnecessarily died - And so it continues.....

The world will never forget that the USA was in Budapest
The memoranda, signed in Patria Hall at the Budapest Convention Center with U.S. Ambassador Donald M. Blinken amongst others in attendance, prohibited Russia, the United States and the United Kingdom from threatening or using military force or economic coercion against Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan, "except in self-defence or otherwise in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations." As a result of other agreements and the memorandum, between 1993 and 1996, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Ukraine gave up their nuclear weapons.
At this point, Zelenskyy should not participate in any peace talks which involve the Trump administration.
He should demand that Europe lead the way-and guarantee Ukraine’s safety if a deal can be reached.
Clearly, the US is spouting Putin’s talking points and cannot be trusted to negotiate honestly.

wdmso 02-19-2025, 01:50 PM I find it unusual that their are some so Upset with the references to Naziish. or Fascist or authoritarianism.. as if they are just assigned without Thought or research or a basic criteria...
So to keep the example easy lets say. we identified. 25 examples in Trumps Administration or direct quotes .. that lead to the determination
We feel they fit falling in Naziish. or Fascist or authoritarianism or all of the above.
Our Republican and conservative members. in an attempt to discredit our observations. want to suggest. via whataboutism that others should also be considered Naziish. or Fascist or authoritarianism..
And their Logic is. lets take Bill Clinton. they suggest that if Bill had example 1 out of 25 of our examples in his administration.. why isn't he considered aNaziish. or Fascist or authoritarianism
Or how about Brits, maybe they have 1 , 4 and 8 out of 25. or the French, or the Belgians, or FDR, or LBJ, or Abe Lincoln
They want us to accept it's all the same! there are no degrees of behavior if you have any 1 of our 25 examples you are the same :hihi:
its like suggesting water is no less dangerous when boiled because it's still water .. even when a chart suggest otherwise.
its disingenuous. all to defend the Man. as if everything he has done to Date would be defended by them with the same commitment and zeal if Harris was elected and did the exact same thing. with Musk sitting by her side. or Soros ... but I do know. I wouldn't be giving Harris a pass like republicans are giving Musk and Trump

Pete F. 02-20-2025, 08:54 AM Here’s a NFL player’s opinion of MAGA
Hello, my name is Chris Kluwe and I'm a 15 year HB resident here to speak out against the current city council.
As the community made clear at the Library commission meeting last Tuesday, everyone is in favor of a plaque to celebrate the library, but the vast, VAST majority are against including a MAGA acrostic as the centrally defining feature (I'm ignoring the general ugliness of the design itself).
Unfortunately, it is *also* clear that this council does not care what we as a community want, so I'd like to take my time to talk about what MAGA has stood for these past three weeks.
MAGA stands for trying to erase trans people from existence.
https://www.aclu.org/news/lgbtq-rights/trumps-executive-orders-promoting-sex-discrimination-explained
MAGA stands for resegregation and racism.
https://www.insidehighered.com/news/diversity/race-ethnicity/2025/02/15/trump-admin-threatens-rescind-federal-funds-over-dei
MAGA stands for censorship and book bans.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/feb/13/pentagon-schools-closed-libraries-trump
MAGA stands for firing air traffic controllers while planes are crashing.
https://apnews.com/article/doge-faa-air-traffic-firings-safety-67981aec33b6ee72cbad8dcee31f3437
MAGA stands for firing the people overseeing our nuclear arsenal.
https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/national-security/trump-administration-wants-un-fire-nuclear-safety-workers-cant-figure-rcna192345
MAGA stands for firing military veterans and those serving them at the VA, including canceling research on veteran suicide, opioid addiction, and medical issues related to burn pits.
https://www.military.com/daily-news/2025/02/14/1000-va-employees-lose-jobs-federal-worker-purge.html
MAGA stands for cutting funds to education, including for disabled children.
https://www.al.com/news/2025/02/trump-budget-cuts-threaten-alabama-program-for-those-with-mental-health-challenges-advocates-say.html
MAGA stands for a heroin-snorting junkie being placed in charge of the Department of Health; an abusive alcoholic Deus Vult wannabe crusader being put in charge of the Department of Defense; and a noted Putin apologist being confirmed to run our intelligence services. Mitch McConnell voted against her confirmation, by the way.
https://www.palmbeachpost.com/story/news/2025/02/13/caroline-rfk-jr-caused-familys-addiction-david-died-in-palm-beach/78525188007/
https://www.reed.senate.gov/news/releases/reed-statement-on-abuse-allegations-against-pete-hegseth
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/feb/12/tulsi-gabbard-confirmed
MAGA stands for a ketamine-addled, unelected billionaire ransacking our private financial details with no oversight. He has access to his competitor's financial details, and the bulk of his fortune comes from lucrative government contracts. He's also trying to get his hands on NASA, one of the jewels of American public innovation - again, one of his competitors.
https://www.politico.com/news/2025/02/17/elon-musk-doge-irs-00204579
https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/feb/16/elon-musk-doge-government-privatization
MAGA stands for hate, and fear, and the idea that we should have a king instead of co-equal branches of government. MAGA stands for a version of America that would appall the founders of this country, because they explicitly warned about this exact situation in the Federalist papers, multiple times.
MAGA is profoundly corrupt, unmistakeably anti-democracy, and, most importantly, MAGA is explicitly a Nazi movement. They may have substituted a red hat for an armband with a swastika, but every single thing MAGA stands for is what the Nazis did. Eugenics. Racism. Blind loyalty to the leader over what benefits the community as a whole. Removal or destruction of knowledge deemed "unsavory." Removal of groups deemed "unsavory." Sustained assaults on science, reason, and logic. Ceaseless propaganda that has no basis in reality. The promotion of fools, imbeciles, and charlatans to positions of power.
The threat to take everything you have, unless you give it to them first.
If this council wants to have MAGA represent our community, as someone who actually believes in the Constitution, I can only have one response to Nazis.

I see this has struck a nerve.
I’ve travelled to Canada quite a bit, more eastern Canada really, and while I find Ontario to be nice Quebec is a lot more fun especially Quebec City if you’ve never been.
Several years ago I was driving with my kids in rural Quebec and stopped at a desperately needing to be updated McDonalds to satiate their hunger. The menu was entirely in French and my older son was a little panicked. Fortunately I speak a little French and was able to procure nourishment without any further issue.
We crossed the border into Maine and drove the 201 along the Kennebec River, an absolutely beautiful stretch of country.
From what I understand the older Mainers still speak some Quebecois to this day though I’m not sure the kids are really into it.

Pete F. 02-20-2025, 11:25 AM hit by a bullet fired from an assassin. Also completed his mission....he is your president if you are an american. Thats the difference there big fella.
Actually if you’re an American, he’s the President and Americans owe no allegiance to any person.
There are no kings or tyrants allowed in America.
That’s the difference.
Even naturalized citizens learn that.
The Oath of Allegiance
“I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all
allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom
or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;
…that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of
America against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
…that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;
…that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law;
…that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States
when required by the law;
On May 5, 1789, the Senate passed its first bill—the Oath Act. That first oath, for members and civil servants, was very simple: "I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States."
Each and every United States employee, Private, Airman, Sailor, Representative, Government Service Level 1, Government Service Level 18, Senator, Vice President, Supreme Court Justice, etc takes an oath to protect and defend the United States Constitution.
I personally believe the vast majority take this oath seriously. I believe only one former or current President considered it a mere formality.

X is threatening advertisers that if they don’t spend more, Elon Musk will use his influence in government to block company mergers.
That’s extortion.
A lawyer at advertising conglomerate Interpublic Group fielded a phone call in December from a lawyer at X. The message was clear, according to several people with knowledge of the conversation: Get your clients to spend more on Elon Musk's social-media platform, or else.
X CEO Linda Yaccarino has made comments that seemed like similar warnings in conversations with Interpublic executives, according to people with knowledge of those talks.
Interpublic leaders interpreted the communications from X as reminders that the recently announced $13 billion deal to merge Interpublic with rival Omnicom Group OMC -0.53%Y could be torpedoed, or at least slowed down, by the Trump administration, given Musk's powerful role in the federal government, some of the people said. They also had a front-row seat to Musk's continued criticism of advertisers that ditched X since he bought it in 2022, when it was known as Twitter.

In an R+18 district: Speaking at a business luncheon yesterday in Westerville, Ohio, GOP Rep. Troy Balderson "described President Donald Trump's flurry of executive orders as 'getting out of control' .... [and] expressed some pushback to the idea of sole decision-making power lying with Trump and billionaire advisor Elon Musk," the Columbus Dispatch's Samantha Hendrickson reports. "Congress has to decide whether or not the Department of Education goes away,' Balderson asserted. 'Not the president, not Elon Musk."
In deep-red Georgia: Last night in Roswell, Georgia, an overflow crowd packed into a town hall forum for GOP Rep. Rich McCormick, barraging him with pointed questions and accusatory comments about DOGE's cuts. His staff "seemed caught off guard by the massive crowd of hundreds that gathered," reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Greg Bluestein. Watching Elon Musk and his band of young acolytes slash their way through the federal government, many observers have struggled to understand how such a small group could do so much damage in so little time.
The mistake is trying to situate Musk solely in the context of politics. He isn’t approaching this challenge like a budget-minded official. He’s approaching it like an engineer, exploiting vulnerabilities that are built into the nation’s technological systems, operating as what cybersecurity experts call an insider threat. We were warned about these vulnerabilities but no one listened, and the consequences — for the United States and the world — will be vast.
Insider threats have been around for a long time: the C.I.A. mole toiling quietly in the Soviet government office, the Boeing engineer who secretly ferried information about the space shuttle program to the Chinese government. Modern digital systems supercharge that threat by consolidating more and more information from many distinct realms.
That approach has delivered obvious benefits in terms of convenience, access, integration and speed. When the bipartisan Sept. 11 commission described how segmentation of information among agencies had stymied intelligence efforts, the solution was to create integrated systems for collecting and sharing huge troves of data.
Running integrated digital systems, however, requires endowing a few individuals with sweeping privileges. They’re the sysadmins, the systems administrators who manage the entire network, including its security. They have root privileges, the jargon for highest level of access. They get access to the God View, the name Uber gave its internal tool that allowed an outrageously large number of employees to see anyone’s Uber rides.
That’s why when Edward Snowden was at the N.S.A. he was able to take so much information, including extensive databases that had little to do with the particular operations he wanted to expose as a whistle-blower. He was a sysadmin, the guy standing watch against users who abuse their access, but who has broad leeway to exercise his own.
All this has merged with and amplified another kind of insider threat brewing for decades on the political side: the expansion of unchecked executive power.
“With money we will get men, said Caesar, and with men we will get money,” Thomas Jefferson once wrote, to warn against the ways that what he called elective despotism can become a self-feeding cycle. He had feared that an elected authoritarian would not just pulverize the institutions meant to limit his power, but take them over to wield as weapons, thus further entrenching himself.
Even Jefferson couldn’t have imagined a future in which the arsenal being deployed included centralized databases with comprehensive records on every citizen’s employment, finances, taxes and for some, even health status.
After a judge blocked a Trump executive order, Elon Musk shared a post with his more than 200 million followers on X that included the judge’s daughter’s name, photo and job, allegedly at the Department of Education. There’s no indication he got access to government databases about her, but how would we know if he had, or if he does so in the future?

Pete F. 02-21-2025, 11:12 AM U.S. consumer sentiment plunges—down 10% from January over tariff and inflation fears.
Most people I know think the economy is cooked thanks to Trump’s policies—designed to help the rich and screw working folks.
It seems almost unavoidable at this point that we are headed for a deep, deep recession. Just based on 200K+ federal firings & pullback of contracts, the March employment report (to be released April 4) seems certain to show bigger job losses than any month ever outside of a few in 2008-9 and 2020.
Add on to that enormous private market uncertainty - how could you hire in these conditions? - and this is going to be very, very bad.
To be clear: Even greater damage will be done by the loss of federal government productivity. The workers who are losing their jobs were worth more than they were being paid! We are all poorer when roads, planes, and food are unsafe, when parks are closed, etc.
This will show up in the March report, to be released on April 4. Why not in the February report, coming out March 7? Because that asks for employment in the pay period including Feb. 12, and the firings were nearly all too late for that.
But, I suspect the March unemployment report will actually be rosy.
The Felon’s regime's Five Year Plan will have achieved HUGE success in reducing unemployment to 1% and inflation to 0% by executive order.

The odds of this child having personal copies of terabytes of confidential information on US citizens is alarmingly high and makes them an ideal target for extortion or worse they could hold the data hostage for ransom.
Best case is Musk will use it for personal and political gain.
I do hope when this detonates a few of us are left to repopulate the species.

We’re impressed so far
Donald Trump's rapid-fire policy moves - and I'll note that the word "policy" is applied charitably in this case - are the economic equivalent of liberally tossing around lighter fluid and playing with a packet of matches.
His unnecessary, belligerent, and pointlessly aggressive tariffs, and his spending cuts (in the name of tax breaks for America's wealthy) have given his second term the fiscal aerodynamics of a lead balloon.
There's a difference between uncertainty and volatility, but Trump has lumbered into power with both at his heels, and America's economy is already feeling the one-two-punch.
The market reaction has been far from partisan. The S%P 500 is down 1.71%, the Nasdaq 2.20%. And the price of eggs, a marker that became the campaign-defining meme of Trump's financial promises, has soared; as of February 21, 2025, the national average wholesale price for a dozen Grade A eggs reached $8.07, the highest on record.
Trump's model of Governance through Executive Order has been defined by a tsunami of changes, from the petulant to the ideological. His tariffs - a blunt instrument favored by the economically illiterate - have targeted cars, semiconductors, and pharmaceuticals. Even Jim Farley, the Trump-supporting CEO of Ford, predicted the administration's approach would lead to "a lot of costs, a lot of chaos."
Meanwhile, Trump's co-president, Elon "Ketamine" Musk, has been let loose at the conjured-from-thin-air Department of Government Efficiency, where his cuts, irresponsible and incompetent at best, wilfully destructive at worse, have kicked off the wholesale collapse of employment across government departments and related industries; a ruin that will inevitably show up in stalled employment numbers.
The supply-chain ripple effect of Musk and Trump's effective shuttering of USAID is preemptively hitting agriculture and manufacturing. And markets are pricing in a gloomy assessment of policy disruption.
PMI has dropped to a 17-month low. Manufacturing is "front-running" tariffs as the reality of Trump's scorched earth economics sets in. The services area, both public and private, is already contracting. As it turns out, the "Trump Business Honeymoon" couldn't make it 30 days into his ignominious, post-conviction Presidency.
Consumer sentiment has followed Industry, falling to a 15-month low, with inflation expectations at their highest since 1995. And as Walmart has warned, the feedback loop between sentiment and spending couldn't be clearer. Americans are feeling the pinch, and their wallets are snapping shut.
None of this should be surprising to anyone with a functioning brain cell - so it's entirely understandable that it's left MAGA voters and Trump supporters gasping. Shooting from the hip is a poor approach to policy, and when uncertainty becomes an official strategy, the markets will fluctuate between erratic attempts at adaptation and paralysis. As euphoric as America's Oligarchs might have been about unchecked capitalism, the wholesale of regulation, and a Government that would either look the other way or lend a helping hand to their banditry, the fact is that markets thrive on stability. You cannot build on an unsteady foundation; right now, America's economic foundation is being undermined.
Disruption can be a positive force. But over the last decade, it has become a hand-wave that forgives and excuses irresponsible governance, poor decision-making, and financial incompetence. The reason you can't run the government like a startup is simple: 90% or more of startups fail. That's a risk threshold that should be unacceptable to anyone serious about the responsibility of America's stewardship.
Productive disruption in the context of an economy or a nation is possible. But there is no evidence of anything productive in Donald Trump's current approach to economics. Just more deliberate and collateral damage, more flagrant disregard for common sense, and more policies designed to shake things up while shaking the monetary baby to death.
The numbers surrounding Biden's soft landing, the numbers inherited by Trump and his gangsters, showed a nation bouncing back.
But Trump's performance in the first month of his second term is a strong signal that the soft landing is over, and America's fiscal outlook is grim to say the least.

If I had to wager, Trump is trying to cut a deal with Putin to hand over Ukraine if we get some minerals out of it. Russia will just install another corrupt president like Ukraine ousted before Zelinsky was democratically elected.

Absolutely Trump‘s just looking for something to make himself look good his base doesn’t care about the details, clearly neither do the Republicans
Id go 1 step further and say the minerals are lithium. Who in trumps inner circle needs lots of lithium?

Got Stripers 02-23-2025, 08:06 AM So the tcja extension will give the middle a 1.3 tax break, but the top 1% get 3.2, so a $70,000 break vs $1000, sounds fair right. Ah but remember how well that trickle down economics has worked haha. Projections of our national debt continue to go up NOT down under this new administration and the outlook for the economy isn’t great. Wondering when the stark reality of what is happening wakes up the maga brainwashed, if that is even possible.
Pete F. 02-23-2025, 08:50 AM Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading.
Nervous Musk, Trump, Vance have all been outclassed in public arguments these last few days. Government failure, stock market crash, and dictatorial alliances are not popular. People are starting to realize that there is no truth here beyond the desire for personal wealth and power.

Pete F. 02-23-2025, 08:59 AM A few facts about Ukraine
Zelensky does not imminently risk losing all of Ukraine.
• Most Ukrainian cities have not been destroyed.
• Ukrainian law prohibits holding elections in wartime (unlike the US
Constitution, which requires it).
• Ukraine has not suffered millions of losses.
• Europe provides about as much direct aid to Ukraine as the United States.
• European loans to Ukraine are backed by income from frozen Russian assets, not Ukraine.
• Ukraine did not misuse or lose half of the aid the United States has provided.
• Ukraine repeatedly invited Putin to negotiate in early 2022.

Salon is a more progressive site but this piece really speaks volumes.
But here’s the thing: The chaos Trump is unleashing won’t do America a damn bit of good. What’s the point of winning if it means losing the people who once admired you, who chose to stand with you around the world? Alienating voluntary friends, burning bridges that took decades to build — how does that make America great?
If you think those lost friends can be easily replaced with new ones, forget it. They can’t.
Trump’s new friends are not America’s friends. They may be his friends, at least for the moment: political opportunists, power-hungry strongmen and regimes that don’t care about the ideals America once stood for. They don’t admire its history, its culture, its principles. They barely know anything about it.
They’re celebrating one thing: the fact that the America that once stood in their way is crumbling. They don’t respect a strong America. They relish the idea of a weak America, , an America too distracted, too divided, too consumed by its own chaos to stop them. And don’t fool yourself into thinking they’re satisfied with just a piece of the pie.
They want the whole damn bakery.

Pete F. 02-23-2025, 11:58 AM There’s a discussion going on about what’s called The Mar a Lago Accords.
It’s a complicated convoluted set of financial assumptions, changes and things that are claimed to be in his power and would of course make America great again.

This assumes that the USA which generates about 26% of the world’s GDP can bully the rest of the G7 into submission on this and that the rest of the world will fall in line.
Unfortunately for Trump and us BRIC+ and the rest of the G7(excluding USA) control more than twice as much of the world’s GDP as the USA.
We’ve alienated much of the world both through past behavior and current.
Much of our current strength is derived from having the strongest military in the world and the dominant currency.
A multilateral agreement among most nations could quickly put the United States in a very weak position.
If Xi Jinping convinced Putin to withdraw from Ukraine and they negotiated a multilateral trade and military agreement with BRICS and what remains of the G7 excluding the USA there’s great advantages for the rest of the world and little Trump could do.
Threaten them with war and/or regime change after he’s decimated the USA military and CIA?
Impose tariffs and decimate what’s left of USA trade?

It’s nearly as much of a sick joke pick as Gaetz was for AG if anyone can even remember him.
Even worse it sounds like FBI Director Patel (another sick joke) told the FBI they would make a traditional pick for Deputy from rank and file agents. Forget about the FBI investigating white collar crime or national security, we now have a secret police.
We might just see another cherished institution go right down the drain.

Seriously, Trump is now negotiating on Putin’s behalf. The United States, last bulwark of communism is siding with Russia, North Korea and Belarus.
Sounds like the EU is contemplating making their own deal for Ukrainian minerals and giving nearly 300B in frozen Russian assets to those fighting and dying for democracy. I’m not holding my breath.
