What are the obscure phrases? The scots have a fair few words and phrases that are damn difficult to decipher. Some are derived from french (since through a large part of history bo the scots and the french fought the english...).

help is needed. i'm reading a murder mystery set in scotland. i need you to tell someone who speaks your language and english and to tell me.
book is set in scotland in modern times. by ian rankin. not a gee. not bad but some things he refers too are beyond a yankee's scope.
