Karl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fishweewee 12-09-2003 10:17 AM

bad alternator?

RIROCKHOUND 12-09-2003 10:29 AM

Might wanna throw an extra bat. in your truck just in case... bad alternators suck in the winter (WAIT it isnt even WINTER yet!!!
:af: )

Three more weeks, then I will say I need spring, but still fishing/catching here, just not stripes.....

Karl F 12-09-2003 01:23 PM

Dave

Get the alternator checked, if it is shot, pick up a remanufactured one, shouldn't take 20 minutes to swap it out.

Either that or go get a payment book
 not that you need that!

bassmaster 12-09-2003 09:18 PM

Karl, I put another alt in and it was dead from the start.
took it back and got another. I think I got a short some where:confused:
could the thing that solanoid thing be bad and have a short.
if i shut the truck off and then start it , it was ok then it would come back:confused:
im to broke to put it in the shop.
really need another truck i wish i could afford one

Karl F 12-09-2003 10:34 PM

Could be a bad ground wire from the frame to the chassis, theat truck spends a little time near the salt, no? ;)
voltage regulator is internal in the alt on that I think..
solenoid, you just rplaced tha starter last year, no? meybe...
have you got access to a tester, would save time, sometimes if ya know a guy at a garage, he'll diagnos it for ya in a jifffy,
Got Ralph?

the alt seem hot as a sob Karl and today it is working fine
could ground be bad? seems a short to ground to me.
what about the relay thingie that the starter hooks up to. ya know that thing on the side of the fender on batt side

Karl F 12-10-2003 11:49 AM

I don't think it would be the solenoid, starter would either not work, or keep grinding away. Alt was hot, that don't sound good, but OK now? Could be bad ground, look for green fur growing around the cables, especially where they bolt to Chassis. Clean them up, if you see that schtuff.

(read my post (frame to chassis) DOH!, I was typing in a hurry, sorry

UserRemoved1 12-10-2003 02:05 PM

Dave it's either the alternator or the voltage regulator....if you changed the alternator then do the regulator too...if money an issue maybe a parts yard??
