11yrs and couple of months for me.

I don't have many personal positive accomplishments in life but this does count as one of the few positive ones.

tattoobob 01-03-2013 08:43 PM

I quit 12/22/12 I figured the world didn't end so I had something to maybe live for, I went Cold turkey. I just sold the last 7 packs in a carton I had left today Maybe this time I will not start up again

I'm not out of the woods yet, I still haven't smoked yet but I'm still at times wanting to smoke I threw away the open pack and sold the remainder of the carton I had so I wouldn't have them handy

I also don't drink or do any drugs I'm just a real boring guy :devil2:

Congrats and "boring guys" are able to donate blood or blood products!:biglaugh: I'm scheduled to give platelets next Thursday.

I gave up pack 1/2 per day habit for 30yrs about 20yrs ago BUT I swore to never stop drinking good beer (in moderation). A LITE beer never crosses these lips.....although some Greek Coca cola might!

As the old saying....."quitting smoking is easy, I've done it a thousand times." Not this time....I am determined. I'm mad and tired of it...once and for all I will beat the terrible grasp of this bad habit.
Good Luck to us....
A few things I found helped me in the past (well, it didn't help me stop obviously but it did help me mentally).
I did NOT tell my mother, brother, father, my wife, or friends that I knew would badger me that I was trying to quit....I let them figure it out. Once they did, I told them to NOT ask me "how I was doing." I made the mistake before and would get phone calls 3 or 4 times a day asking me how I was doing with the attempt. I cannot repeat my response here....you can assume. They all would say the typical things (that as a smoker we already know)...think how much $$ you'll save, think about how much better you'll feel and smell. Trust me...all smoker know this.....none will deny these facts. Its a matter of doing it.

Mugz, all the best. I'm in the same boat. Sick of being a slave to poison and I'm sick of spending money on poison. Good luck man. Going to be a struggle for me as well...

Raven 12-31-2013 11:39 AM

going cold turkey seldom works.....

What works is .....lighting up take one hit of nicotine
and putting it out very carefully so you can do that repeatedly
for as long as you can on a single cigarette
soon you will reduce your dependence

then, increase the time between hits larger and larger
let yourself down slowly... that way
to fool the body....by mentally thinking you had smoked a whole one.
but never do that... again .... jmho

Guppy 12-31-2013 05:40 PM

I'm pulling for you guys,,, you can do it!
The patch worked for me and it wasn't the first time but it finally stuck a couple years ago. Toothpicks are helpful also.
Hey! A pack a day buy a hell of a lot of store bought plugage a month.

Good luck to you all trying to quit. 4 years smoke free here. I tried for many years to quit also trying all the different methods. Only one way works IMO. Just stop and don't have another one. That simple. The withdrawal is going to suck but it will pass. Best wishes for a Happy, heathy smoke free 2014!

Nice work guys.

I am in that very edgy beginning of withdrawal...... Better half left a few hours ago. She will be in her CT office for two days. It will be better for our relationship.... especially if she stops txting me to see how I'm doing....:smash:

Raider Ronnie 01-01-2014 06:26 PM

@ $10 a pack now, just thing of how much diesel fuel got paid for.
Good going.

Same here..day 2 for me and no one has been killed or beaten which is nice. $300.00 a month to slowly kill myself, after 25 years I've had it. Hopefully it sticks this time.

ThrowingTimber 01-03-2014 03:56 PM

Good luck guys! It may damn well be the hardest thing to do. Think about a beginning walking or running program to put some of that energy into. Couch to 5k is a good nice and slow program so you don't end up hurting yourself.
