A friend of mine does well jigging for cod in the GoM with an OTI rod and a VS... Uses heavy butterfly speed jigs. Says he has no issues holding bottom, but he's fishing from his own boat and doesn't have to worry about 39 other anglers

I cant wait for it. I sharped all my cod jigs and got the teasers all set. My old AS bag is now my cod fishing bag, thing weighs a ton.

if a slot opens for some reason, please let me know.. i have a +1more that wants in.

a little over 3 weeks away boys. here is the plan for the pools - pool #1 will be a $10 entry, the biggest cod will win 50%, the biggest non-cod will win the other 50%. so with 40 guys each winner should get around 200 bucks. pool #2 will be the "high roller pool", $20 entry and the biggest fish takes it. pools are optional but i can think of many occasions the guy w/ the big fish didn't enter the pool. let's go kill some fish :)

IMO biggest non-cod in #1 should get 25%, but that's just me... Although it would be funny to see a $200 ocean pout if we don't get into haddock/pollock.

Do porbeagles count for #2? :jump1:

And the way I read it, could one fish potentially take both pools?

lets spread the wealth and not be greedy. if you win one pool you are out of the rest. i would rather have 3 guys w/ smiles on their faces than 1 guy w/ fat wallet that everone hates. in the non-cod catagory and the high roller all legal keeper fish can win. so yes a legal porbeagle is elligable - a wolffish is not

was cutting up a pollock yesterday and the boy wanted to see what was "inside". some big azz sandeels and a rock. the bite was ok - tons of pollock out there and we got some nice 15# cod in the mix. still no haddock though

Was that enough "practice" for you? Can't wear you out before the big time!

Those are some big ass sand eels.

Saw those same ones today- absolute monsters. The cod are loaded with them.

Recommended gear to bring? Provided gear?

same question here. i have a lot of gear, but heavy jigs (over 4oz.) are not in my arsenal... rod? reel? line?
