while it would be cool to win or finish second, my dedication to the weight loss side of this has kind of taken a back seat to just plain ol getting in shape. i'm still eating right, but since the weather has gotten better i've gotten into jogging more. i have never enjoyed lifting weights all that much. now that i'm down under 220 my old knees don't rebel at the road work. i'm lovin it. 4 miles is a relative snap in a slow, but comfortable, 40 minutes. so i've changed my routine from weights and cardio to interval training on my off days and jogging three or four days a week.
so my new goal, which should still melt off my remaing flab (though at a slower pace) is 5 miles in 40 minutes just like when i was a "young" man of 45.
don't know how the contest thing will work out but it's been great. many thanks to everyone for the kick start and a return to a healthier life style.
ps.after coming up with a sore shoulder from chasing schoolies around, i've also added fishing hardening exersizes, repetitions stepping up to a two foot high step, lots of stretching, and slinging a
5' length of 1 1/2" galvy pipe.
Great job everyone!

i made my goal. first time at this weight since well. a long time ago :p
probably will lose more during the summer, but i'm all set for now ;)

johnny ducketts 04-16-2008 06:23 AM

Just came back from 2 weeks at sea, and combined with working 12 on 12 off, I'm down to 204. So that's a total of 14 lbs for this contest and 46 since last april when I realized I needed to do something. This is the lightest I have been since my junior year in college.

The Dad Fisherman 04-16-2008 07:29 AM

Wow, forgot all about the weigh-in yesterday.

234 this morning....32 gone since the start.

Final 2 weeks coming up........we must have lost a combined angler between us. Nicely done.

Still need some entry fees so if you can get them in the mail ASAP that would be great. I'm sure the "Anglers Formerly Known As Portly" want to get them wet as soon as the fish arrive.

fishsmith 04-16-2008 07:45 AM

geeze the 15th came early, I at 160lbs.

tattoobob 04-27-2008 05:56 PM

this thread is dying, hows everyone doing?

I am down around 20 depending on when I weigh myself, but I am being told I look better

bart 04-27-2008 06:14 PM

there is a misconception about eating less that i see in this thread. you need to eat more often, but smaller portions. eat 3 meals and 3 snacks a day and your metabolism will speed up. no dairy, it retains too much water. cut back on carbs, in fact none after 6. if you do eat pasta, eat whole wheat. rice and steamed vegetables are your friends. a nice salad with italian tuna and hot peppers is my favorite. sticking to a diet is not an easy task, but if you want to lose weight you need to do it, along with hitting the gym. cardio and diet are the two main ingredients to losing weight, but make sure you get enough protein so that you're not burning lean muscle instead of fat...

anyways, i started in Dec. I'm down to 220 from close to 270. still need to firm up a bit but otherwise, i'm feeling pretty good. :)

bart 04-27-2008 06:16 PM

nice job TDF :kewl:

johnny ducketts 04-28-2008 01:03 PM

I think I'm going to end up weighing in as my last post. 204 for the contest, for a total of 14 lbs, but more importantly 46 lbs off since last April.. To the winner, Congrats and catch a large on your hard earned pluggage Great Work!

It is a close race, with only a couple more days to go..... I am still shedding pounds, but had a little bump entertaining some customers for a few days... but I am back on track and should finish strong.

This has been great motivation for me, and I am so excited we all did this. Maybe we can all get together in May for a (not so) portly anglers fishing trip.

:claps::claps::claps:

The Dad Fisherman 04-29-2008 09:38 AM

I'm pretty sure its a 3 way race between Zacs, Scone and Adam777.

Good luck to those in the running and congradulations!

scone 04-30-2008 08:22 PM

The Dad Fisherman 05-01-2008 07:09 AM

I'm at a whopping 233.....down 33 pounds. Feeling better, had my physical last week and my Cholestorol is down to 166....all is good. Now bring on the fish.

I'll post results when everyone weighs in.....

johnny ducketts 05-01-2008 07:17 AM

204 and holding here. Great Job all, :musc:

spinncognito 05-01-2008 07:22 AM

Is there a consilation prize for least amount of poundage dropped? My scale laughed at me again this morning. 240 for a total of -3.

No discipline whatsoever. Perhaps a hypnotist may help.
Congrats to all with great success and I hope the winner catches large on my entry fee...

zacs 05-01-2008 09:34 AM

OK, i've weighed in.

2....1......2

win or loose, this has been a great experience, and I weigh less than I have in 10 years. I am going to try like hell to keep it off. I actually plan on loosing another 10 lbs., but the motivation to keep dieting will be tough now that the contest is over.

Start: 271 lbs
Finish: 212 lbs
Lbs lost: 59 lbs
% lost: 21.8%

Thanks for the motivation, guys.

Zac

zacs 05-01-2008 03:48 PM

Are you guys in the sauna cutting the last few lbs.????? :musc:

The Dad Fisherman 05-01-2008 04:07 PM

scone 05-01-2008 04:25 PM

i was gonna wait til later seein how the suspense was building but nothing's gonna change except i'm about to grill the worlds largest burger with provolone and mushrooms and bacon, ok i'll thow on some lettuce and t'maters too, so i'm unlike;y to get any smaller in the next few hours.
so here it is,
215 lbs or -52lbs from the start- or like 19.4%
nice job zac!

Adam_777 05-01-2008 04:39 PM

Thanks eb. I started 1/2/08. I was in Wakefield today and should have stopped by, you should see me, I am swimming in my old clothes.

I hope to lose another 12 by 6/1, then I will just go on maintenance diet, approx 2000 kCal/day, but keep exercising. Through the diet I have been on around 1200 kCal/day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. If I went bad and did a 2000 day, i would cut back and do an 800 day the next day.

basically it is 200 cal breakfast, 300 cal lunch, 500 cal dinner and two 100 cal snacks any time. Or sometimes a 600 cal dinner and one snack. And as much lettuce, celery & carrots as I wanted whenever.

zacs 05-02-2008 01:04 PM

so i guess I won. WOOHOO

TDF, I can give you my fedex number to send me the plugs if you want, unless you are going to be in RI soon and we can hookup.

It is kind of a bummer that the contest is over. almost kind of an anti-climatic letdown. but then again, I am looking forward to eating my first hooters wings of 2008 very soon!!!!!!

:wiggle::wiggle::wiggle:

spence 05-02-2008 01:08 PM

No plugs till we get some pics :musc:

zacs 05-02-2008 01:50 PM
