Cod were loaded with those mondo sand eels again today- but also with a good amount of foot long herring in them today.
My rig is more old school- I use a gsb 1321m cut to 8'. Need to find a smaller reel for this trip than my saltist 50. 80 braid, topshot of 80 or 100 mono. Niko is dead on- seems that the big girls come on bait, but I prefer to jig, especially in the bow. leave the stern to the clam chuckas! I figure with the tide we'll have 17 oz jigs will be key. Just got a new saltist 50 with a chaos 30-60 for micro jigging. Plan to load the reel with 80# power pro with a 50' 50# mono topshot. Can't wait to see what those little jigs do.
Brad and I also booked rooms at the Seabrook Best Western on Saturday and Sunday, for whoever stays there. Later, Rick |
Just got the new rod ready/ Now to do up Rappin Mikey's old meat stick. I'm sure with a heavy jig on the new setup I'll go straight down. Hoping I can try out those 9 oz jigs, though!

Goose
Goose, check your PMs
|
What's a micro jig? Just considered micro because it's 9 oz?
|
i just talked to the captain and he said they are typically fishing around 200' of water but as deep as 360. for jigs they are using around 12 oz but with a moon tide this weekend plus some wind we may need a little heavier. for bait 16 oz is the way to go. see everyone this weekend
|
So we need to bring our own gear? Or is it chosing to use our own gear or crappy gear provided by the boat :tooth: ?
Not sure I have much suitable but 'spose I convert something if needed. I don't have jigs, etc (though I have a couple classic CRats from 10 years ago :tooth: ) so what should I pick up? Zac - I'm in! |

SE 10-15 seas 2-4 = nice
|
Can't wait. Borrowed another setup (st croix premier 7' heavy 30-50 with an avet hx) so I should be good to go.
PS no bananas onboard :fury: |
Ive been lookin for another reel but will stick with what i got. Penn 114H, Jigmaster and Newell 338. The newel is a bit light but does the trick. I guarantee i will have the funniest lookin jiggin stick out there. I think its a sabre 1208 with about 2 feet off the top, 25" to center of reel seat. She aint pretty but she works. I hope the WX forcast stays the same, anything over 5' and i will be on the rocks throwin plugs. I figure i would be more than happy to spend 70 buks to not be sick.

Uh oh
10-15 w gusts to 20. seas 3-5 ft. w possible showers.Edging towards possible chumslicks.
|
It will be rollers. Perfect for puking.
|
Zac - will give you a call later on today about meeting to caravan up there.
Anyone that bails last minute etc. Let me know I really want to see my buddy Gio puking for 12 hrs. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
Guys,
One of my guests cannot make the trip. I have that prepaid spot available (corner stern) for someone that wants to join the trip. Here is what we believe is the list of folks that wanted to attend but didn't get a spot in order. I'd like to offer it to those folks first but need to identify a replacement ASAP. Tight lines! Weather looking good. Hope the bite is hot! Update: JackK +1 has the spot |
My plus one still would like to go- He's ready to go for Sunday. Just couldn't commit financially at that point when the trip was filling up. Post was on the 2nd (#38). He can pay via paypal if needed, otherwise he can bring cash to the boat.

Working:fury::fury:

Anybody thinking about putting up odds the trip will be cancelled? Weather SUCKS!
|
as of right now 3-4' seas. wave period 8-9 seconds. seas don't look bad. as for the rain - bring your raingear. i'd be surprised if he cancelled unless the forcast goes into the crapper
|
Im going to be watching the forecast closely. Just talked to my buddy who has been slamming 25-35 lb bass from shore, not a bad alternative to puking for an afternoon.
|
Empty spot filled :) Weather is of no concern to me. Can't imagine the cap cancelling.

3-4 on the GOM? Don't think that's bad at all. Wind doesn't look bad although it is 96 hours out, Isle of Shoals is showing 180 under 15 all day.
